A junior high school enrolls through donations made by the students. Each homeroom contributing the quota receives a copy of the magazine, American Red Cross, which is published eight times during the school year. Students of enrolled schools are considered members of Red Cross and may participate in some of the planned projects. This may be done by attendance and, or contributions. Red Cross is governed by volunteers. Most of its duties are performed by volunteers, and it is financed by voluntary contributions. Mrs. Sallinger Sponsor 68 STUDENT COUNCIL The Student Council, comprised of one representative from each home room, is the legislative body of the school. It promotes cooperation between the students, faculty, and the administration, citizenship, and student effort in both social and academic activities. Their activities include co-sponsoring the Halloween and the Spring dances. This year marks the second year of Pirates Alley, which opens before school and at recess to sell school supplies. At Christmas, the council helped sponsor the “Toys for Tots” campaign. Our sponsors for this year were Mrs. Betty Addison Mrs. Hebert. The Student Council sells donuts at recess to raise money for projects. 69 First Row: Mrs. Addison, sponsor; Officers: Jeff Budden, Pres.; Kaye Heard, Sec.; Ann Heatherly, V.P.; Jeff Cole, Treas. Y-TEENS Y-Club is a service club. This year Y-Club participated in the Salvation Army “Toys for Tots” drive, and went Christmas caroling at the Guest House, an old folks home. One of the main service projects was making Easter baskets for the children’s ward of the hospital. Aside from being a service club it is a fun organization. A city-wide style show and dance were held, and our Broadmoor Junior High chapter sponsored a Christmas party and dance. The officers from our chapter attended the annual Leadership Training Conference at Camp Singing Waters. Any girl in the seventh, eighth, or ninth grade may become a member by joining at the beginning of each year. 70 Mrs. Hebert—Sponsor ATHLETICS 9th GRADE FOOTBALL CO-CHAMPS 72 “Mighty Mouse has struck!” 8th GRADE FOOTBALL Coach Carl Gebhart 73 7th GRADE FOOTBALL 74 BASKETBALL Coach Carl Gebhart Anybody got a Bandaid? 9th Grade Basketball Eighth Grade Team Coach Brooks Tisdale 76 Seventh Grade Team Coach Dean DeWecsc SCHOOL LIFE 78 Martha Jane Singleton and Ricky Payer Ninth Grade Class Favorites 79 Katie Avery and Jeff Budden Most Likely to Succeed 80 Mitzi Miller and Daryl Landry Most Athletic 81 Vicky Ott and Bernie Boudreaux Wittiest Nancy Pokorny and Mike Genusa Most School Spirit 83 Susan Cadwallader and Malcolm Settoon Flirticst 84 Kristie Wikman and Francis Richard Eighth Grade Class Favorites Aimee D'Arensbourg and Thad Hayes Seventh Grade Class Favorites 85 iwnrr '.
