Not only do they challenge us to drink deeply at the well of knowledge, but they also provide the guiding hands which direct our spirit. 15 Frank R. McLavj' Principal Louisiana State University, B.S.; M.Ed. No one represents more fully the spirit of Broadmoor High than Mr. McLavy. On Saturday, November 16, 1963, over one hundred of the prettiest girls in the South awaited with anxiety their turns to go on the stage. The members of the audience applauded for their favorite contestants, while the fathers of the contestants were out in the lobby listening to the L. S. U. -Mississippi State football game on the radio when their daughters were not on stage. Members of the backstage crew and the entertainers scurried around frantically while Mr. Buhler, the M. C., happily told jokes in front. Yes, our 1963 adventure on Treasure Island was a wonderful experience; but the most exciting part of the pageant was the announcement of the winners, who with stars in their eyes eagerly went forward to receive their trophies. He has given our team leadership and example through thick and thin. He has stressed the academic and spiritual, as well as the physical. He has earned from the team and student body respect that is .unequalled. To him all we can do is wish him well and give our sincere, but inadequate, thanks. 128 ROW 1: P. Lindsey, Mgr., J. The Buc offense doubled that of Central behind Chellette and Percy on the ground and Switzer in the air. Switzer's marksman-like punting also kept the Wildcats on their end of the field most of the night. Broadmoor versus Catholic High Broadmoor took on its first triple A foe of the year in an exciting game that revealed a lot of the Bucs. Behind Terry Switzer and Greg Burhams, who engineered a pro-type offense, the Bucs surged to a 14-0 edge in the first quarter and then held off the Bears. Estis and Chelette led the Buc cause with a touchdown apiece, while the defense held the triple A school to only 75 yards. 130 Broadmoor versus Istrouma Showing little awe for the number one ranked school in the state, the Bucs outplayed the Indians for three and one-half quarters. Percy was the leading rusher in the game, more than doubling his nearest foe. . . The Indians scored in the last two minutes to take a hard-fought and spine-chilling victory 20-13. Bucs versus Baton Rouge High School To close the triple A slate, the Bucs took on the Bulldogs and again outplayed the bigger school but were beaten by numbers. . . The Bulldogs' depth began to tell in the third quarter when the Dogs behind a fresh team pushed over their second score. Estis and Percy led the Buc cause in bettering the Dogs offensive effort by nearly a 100 yards. Final score - 19-7. Broadmoor versus Glen Oaks As the Bucs moved into their own class, they showed their teeth. The Bucs nearly tripled the offense of the Oakers but were plagued by crucial fumbles. The final score of 7-0 does not show the real text of the Broadmoor dominated game. Upper - Miller leads the way against Glen Oaks. Lower - Chelette for six against Behrman. Broadmoor versus Baker The Bucs broke loose in this one rambling to a 23-7 edge over Baker. Percy and Chel-ette, each scoring twice, led the onslaught while the defensive team was equally superb holding the Buffs to one-third of the offense of the Bucs. Broadmoor versus Denham Springs The Bucs met another tough 8-AA foe in the Yellow Jackets bur again proved their mastery. In outrushing the Jackets, the Bucs were again led by Percy and Switzer. The final score, again over a triple A school 13-0. Broadmoor versus Lee High In Coach Pitalo's last Lee High game the Bucs ended the regular season by romping over arch-rival Lee. The Bucs scored early and from then on ran roughshod over the Rebels. The Bucs more than tripled the offense of the Rebels, led by Percy and Chelette. Staff Photographer Log Staff Every year a new editor takes the helm of the school yearbook and resolves to publish the finest the campus has ever seen. She makes great plans; works long hours, worries about her academic courses, and devotes herself body and soul to the production of an annual. Then the bubble bursts: broken promises, too small a budget, missed deadlines, and time schedules stretched to the breaking point. Hours of copy laying out, typing, proofreading, picture taking, and activity fund-raising completely dominated the time of the faithful staff-members. Finally the task began to reach to fruition ; everyone then forgot the heartaches-and reveled in a job well done.
