Health, Driver Ed improve pupil safety habits B9 . Examining the parts of an automobile motor, Driver Ed pupils Brenda Larson and Max Inglert investigate its operation. Set for action in an exciting game of English football, or soccer, a boys' phys ed class participates in team competition. 24 The mechanics of an automobile, the miracles of the hiuman body, the manual dexterity of the pupil, and the military procedure of the armed forces are among the objects of study and improvement in Driver Education, l-lealth, 'iphys ed, and ROTC. Prospective drivers benefit from the supervision provided by both class and behind-the-wheel train- ing in Driver Education courses. The thorough in- struction received from these classes statistically places those young drivers who have taken the course above the average high-school-aged driver in safety. Safety in everyday habits is also a basic in Health classes. Pupils study the structure and functions of the human body, learning the best methods to keep physically and mentally fit, By providing a daily period of exercise and sports competition, physical education develops co-ordination and general health. ROTC, the Reserve Officer Training Corps, prepares boys for future service in the armed forces. Team competition in 'marksmanship and knock-out drills, instnuction in the use of weapons and military organ- ization, and stress on discipline and neatness develop leadership and ability in ROTC pupils. 'X' N-... Exercise means relaxation, and the boys' phys ed class puts this principle to use during the rigors of a hard day at school,
