tin school activities reflects Ripplites' liveliness Ripplites demonstrate their pride in their school by actively participating in both class- and school- sponsored activities. Entering high school as individuals, pupils grow together through class activities. Although there is no class organization until the junior year, after vigorous campaigning for officers, class members set to work selecting rings and presenting the junior Dance, both of which earn money for the highlight of the year, the junior-Senior Prom. Similarly, seniors, after choosing their leaders, work toward Commence- ment and the Grad Dance in the spring. While class loyalties remain strong, pupils also form firm friendships with members of other classes through extracurricular clubs and athletic events. Crganizations draw together pupils of similar in- terests and abilities while providing enjoyment and service. Likewise, athletics encourage integrity and sportsmanship for both spectators and participants. After school, throngs of hungry Broad Ripple pupils flOCk to nearby drive-in restaurants for food and companionship. Long lines of pupils crowd the Auditorium lobby on the first day Ripples tickets are o'fered for sale. The student vaudeville-type production plays annually for two nights during March, i3

liequip Ripplites lor lullillment ol goals for luture Realizing that despite the presence of extra- curricular activities and social events, the purpose of the school remains primarily education, Ripple pupils create an academic atmosphere emanating from the school. A well-rounded education for everyone is the key- stone of Broad Ripple's academic policy, Although ranked as one of the nation's best college prepara- tory schools, Ripple strives to educate also those who end their education with high school graduation. Pupils choose from three diploma plans depending upon their abilities and plans for the future: academic, fine and practical arts, and general. Each course ot study, while allowing some freedom ot course selec- tion within the ll individual departments, never- theless requires a general knowledge in all areas for graduation. For some come tangible rewards in the form of honors and scholarship grants. But for all come the knowledge and satisfaction of having received a sturdy, -general education which will serve them well in whatever they do in the future. Study time extends far into the evening for Stuart Siegel who like most other pupils, averages 40 minutes per subject nightly Receiving information about the Scholastic Aptitude Test which th y take to qualify as finalists are National Merit Scholarship semi- finalists Chris Woolling, Mary Ellen lacobs, john Bowers, Marilyn Kolesar, Lee Seldon, and Barry Clazer.
