NRESTLING This year, after an absence of several years, wrestling was re instated as a major sport in Britt High School As not one of the 32 boys who reported for practice had any previous experience on the mat it was necessary for Coach Jim Fox te take t1me to teach the boys the necessary fundamentals of the sport They soon learned these and a few other nifty tricks, and then the boys worked their way through a tough lb meet schedule At the end of the season their record showed that they had scored victories over Hampton, Mason Pity, and Eldora State Training School The teams lack of experience was evident, how ever when they were defeated by the larger towns of Cedar Pills, Ehst Waterloo, Osage, Algona Eagle Grove, Gilmore City and use a City They also entered the Eagle Grove invitational meet and + e istrirt Tournaments at Fort Dodge Charlie Johns 105 pounder from Erltt Art Conaway, who wrestled at 123 pounds proved to be the point getter of the year He sfored 3h points to le d the te m in 1nd1v1dual scoring Charles Hhaf, heavyweight, and Frankie Teiss 112 were tied for second place with 29 points apiece, while lightwelght, Bill Govig placed third with 28 Charlie Hhaf was elected by his souad members as the honorary team captain of the year TRACK This spring for the first time in five years, Britt High School will sponsor a track team At the time of this publication it is not def1nitely known which boys will compete in the many different events We are certain, however, that Coach Jim Fox will select and successfully traln the right boys for the right events and that these boys, although completely inexperienced in track work, will do their best to made a successful season for Britt At the present time only one meet has definitely been srheduled, that being with Mason City on May 6th The team has plans for entering several other meets, however, in the hopes that a full schedule can be worked out for the team The following boys plan to go out for early prarti e sessions Jack Thies lark Bode Bill Govig Jim Harvey Paul Bode Paul Benson Jim Hampe Lyle Peterson Donald Kahlstorf Bill Copas Don Holck Harold Be ker Art Conaway Bill Puffer Hugh Haverly Francis Sauer Joe ?bllik Ed Nedved Alfred Hhrle I placed third in the District meet.
