VARSITY BASKETBALL Holverson passes the ball inbounds to B Nedved Nedved dribbles down the floor and passes off to Peterson Peterson fakes to D Nedved. but passes to Harvey who shoots and scores That scene or one similar to it was ena ted many a time this winter as Coach Claire Champine skillfully guided the u6 HY. Britt High School team to a successful season By employing the use of a fast break down the floor, the varsity five was able to account for a total of 10 wins against 9 losses in all competition They won 6 conference games out of a possible 1? and placed fourth in conference standing Northwood, lake Mills, and Forest City were the three teams which placed above the Britt Eagles In the county tournament which was held at Klemme, the team easily defeated a weak Woden team by a score of 63 9 in the first round 1 the next game the team gained the finals by defeating our age-old rivals the Garner Cardinals, 33 30 In the final game for the county champion ship a last quarter rally by Britt fell short of its mark, and the team had to settle for the second place trophy as the Klemme Shamrocks won at Forest City, the Eagles were eliminated in the first roune by a stub born Titonka team which won MO 30 Prom his forward position, Jim Harvey scored a total of lb? points to lead the team in scoring Lyle Peterson was second with 125, while Dick Nedved accounted for an even 100 The team voted Lyle Peterson as the honorary captain of the year The team will be hit hard by graduation as Peterson, the Nedveds, Folverson, and Korneisel will receive their diplomas this spring Several other boys from the freshman and sophomore souad show good prospects, however, and it is expected that these boys will be able to form another wide awake basietball team for Britt FRESHHAN SOPHMORE BASKETBALL This year the Freshman and Sophomore Basketball team really went to town Th y scored victories in 12 of their lb games scheduled to place second in conference standing Lake Mills was the only team that was able to compile a record which was better t an that of our Freshman Sophmore Squad Jack Thies was high point man for the squad with 168 points Mort Williams was next with 131, while Charles Moeckley scored a total of 85 ALL CONFERENCE Just as we go to press, we learn that Lyle Peterson and Dennie Holverson were elected as All Conference basketball players.
