The Pirate grapplers under Coach Herbert Thompson worked hard and learned much. The wrestlers won but four dual matches, but steadily compet- ing against schools with larger enrollment, the Pirates were able to show each opponent a close match. In the pre- season invitational tournament held here, the Pirates gave Bristow fans a good prevue of the season as they placed high while competing with the best competition in the state. In 1953-54 the Bristow High School Pep Club has been a peppy one. As football season approached, each member attended the games and helped support the team. As basketball sea- son and wrestling began, the Pep Club again tried to raise school spirit and encouraged the boys to do their best. A weekly meeting has been held every Thursday to discuss business and to give merits to the girls who have earned them. There have been birthday celebrations on the fourth Thursday of each month. Before be- coming a member of the Pep Club, a student must obtain a C average with no UF. Dues of twenty-five cents are collected each semester to help pay for the Pep Club banquet held at .59- the close of the school year. This year the con- cession stand was again managed by the Pep Club. It was operated satisfactorily by Joan Tiernan, Monta Jean Baker and Kaye Barton, who acted as business managers. The entire Pep Club participated in the coronation of the foot- ball queen. They formed a very impressive crown which added to the beauty of the cere- mony. The Pep Club participated in the Okla- homa drive for the Medical Research Founda- tion and collected a total of 55425. The sole pur- pose of the Pep Club is to create better school spirit throughout all athletic events. Pep Club members are urged to earn the merit pin which is given at the spring Award Assembly.
