'Under Blackburxfs guidance, the team learned to light hard and to work together. They reached their peak in the last of the season, soundly trouncing the favored Guthrie Bluejays, 26361 This win, combined with a forfeit victory from Chilocco, gavegh Pirates a tie for fifth place in the rugged 8A Conference. Outsider H Conference, the Pirates played their best game against Wewoka, tip. setting the speedy Tigers, 20-14. Their experience and hustling spirit were largely responsible for any success the football Pirates enjoyed during the season. Even in their sopho- more and junior years, many of these boys were sparkplugs in the Bristow football machine. One of the highlights of the season was the coronation of the 1952 football queen Juanita Pennington, at halftime of the Blackwell-Bristow football game.
