Behind is a road on which we encountered laughter and tears success and disappointment Before us are two roads one is the lucrative path toward higher learning the other the way into the intricacies of modern business Whichever road the graduate chooses he shall surely prove himself worthy because the heritage of the class of 1941 IS success Our class IS an average one Our program of athletic scholastic and extra curricular activities has made the 337 members of this class proud beyond belief There have been a few failures What class hasnt-TI'1em7 But the illustrious achievements have out shadowed those failures to the point yyhere we rate good old 41 with the best classes in this or any other school Now let us delve into the musty annals of our hastory Approximately four years ago the graduates of the various grammar schools of the city gathered together yyith eager hearts and apprehensive spirits to form a very profitable coal1t1on Gradually the awe of the surroundings faded away After electing Danny Macdonald presadent who incidentally was president three times Herb Son stroem vice president ane Beckwith secretary and Jimmy Lincoln treasurer the Freshies settled down to make successes of themselves although the task of making the upperclassmen CODSCIOUS of the lowly ones from the hill was not an easy one NVh1le the freshman track and swimming teams did not have much luck against the more experaenced te ams of the other classes the basketball team had a very good season The antics of Bugs Bugryn Willie Disobato Johnnie Utke Queenie Amsden Pete Gaughan Chick Cari Red OConnor and Benny Grabowski brought smiles of satisfaction from Mr Foster their capable coach Otto Cold Winters was the pride and joy of each and every Freshman Otto won a letter in basketball and was the mainstay of the varsity team for the next three years Herb Sonstroem xyon a letter in baseball Gidge Downs always a capable performer on the court won numerals on the girls tennis team Later Gldge developed into the most skillful tennis player among the fair sex The Freshman athletes were not unknoyyn dovyn on the Boulevard The students in other fields were active also A bid for Thespi an honors was brought to the fore by the parts of amce Park and lvlonja Crow in Pride and Irejudlce The annual Freshman Frolic was a great success an making the Freshmen socially conscious of themselves An unfruatful petition for one session originated in mad season and set the whole school arguing for several weeks The popular Shadow Gazette which appeared anonymously on the bulletin board broadcxst the news of the building to the eager public ear A reversal in the direction of traffic went into effect only to confuse further the already dizzy minds of the youngsters After one brief glance at a series of hectic examinations the hither to friendly termites armed and chased the potential Sophomores off the hill In mad year Roger Schmidt was suddenly called from our midst Rog was an honor student and Xkell known to all The entire class deeply regretted the passing of this popular young fellow After solving the labyrmthian corridors of the senior building the class faded into apparent obscurity as sophomores to prepare to take over the leadership of the school in its Junior and senior years of the school was started Our class has alvyays had reason to be proud of its feminine athletes I the past few years the garls have not been idle The teams have yyon consistently for three years in swimming basketball bowling deck tennis archery and volleyball Among the girls who have par t1c1p ated most widely in these victories are Edna Boyce Marie bionette Rose D Aprile Lorr une Tousignant Mary Bertino Alice St ohn and Esther Masa The sphere of boys athletic activity has been one of the most memorable ever witnessed in the school In virtually all fields the name of Bristol High has sparkled with exceptaonal brilliance First there xy as the football team which brought the C C I L championship back to Bristol Outstanding on the team were cocaptains Beak Sonstroem and Goop Zebroxyski Pete George Buck Turcotte .IOITIIIIIL McLaughlin Pete Gaughan and Babe Reimer Secondly comes tennis The tennis team ls captained by George ueeme Amsden eventh ranking junior player in New England ac cordmg to the New England Lawn Tennis Association ratxng The team composed mainly of Amsden Chi k Johns Red OConnor Harry Merrow and Bob Strong captured the CC I L trophy The baseball team graced by Bugs Bugryn Boots Bachand captain Johnnie Utke Jim Thompson Johnnie McLaughlin Joe Grimaldi and Al Fuc1n1 ranks among the strongest mnes in the state A successful track team boasted of cO captains Al Bernaer and Bob Fellows Dominick Mike Herman Erlang Goop Zebroxxski Charlie Bartlett and many others Our class has always been well represented on the soccer teams produced by Mr Anderson Several championships have been tucked under the belts of the soccer teams and the result is an increasing an terest in that sport An exceedingly good team in our senior year included Ralph Wentworth Rocco Faorente Don Phoenix Iam Thompson Ben Benjamin Don Willard Blake Wilson It seeflls futile to try to pay tribute to the basketball team that coaches experts and fans praised o yyidely The team raced through the regular sea on xyathout a single defeat only to be defeated 111
