Qfictofuy On September 5, 1953, 34 lonely little freshmen walked into the homeroom wondering, what the next four years would bring. They soon found out, for after meeting their sponsors, Mr. Smith and Miss Coss, and electing the class officers, President-Roger Hess, Vice-President-Kenneth Secor, Treasurer-Jack Fuller, and Secretary- Stewart Gardner, they met the Seniors. What do you think they wanted? Why to tell the freshies all about initiation of course. After this ordeal was over, the rest of the year went fairly smooth, ending with 2 more members in the class. They began their second year with 35 members, just as it ended. Under the sponsorship of Mr. Yoder and Mrs. lint, the class officers were elected. They were, President-Jack Fuller, Vice-President- Donna Gardner, Secretary -Jean Erickson, and Treasurer-Kenneth Secor. The Sophomores as they were now known were looking rather blue that year. Not only because of their new blue class sweaters, but because of the fatal loss of their classmate, James Conover. The Enancial highlight of the year was the magazine drive which proved quite profitable. At the start of their third year, 32 of the little freshmen had come to be known as Juniors. Their sponsors were Mr. Sample, and Mr. Glass. Their first bit of business was to elect the class officers for the year. They were, President-Kenneth Secor, Vice-President-Donna Gardner, Secretary-Jean Erickson, Treasurer-Charles Barrett, and Reporter-David James. This year proved to be full of activities with the Junior Carnival, class , rings, the Class Play, Early to Bed, Early to Rise , and the Spring Fling. At the end of this eventful year, the 1 class had lost 4 members, but this was overlooked with the thought on their minds that next year they would be Seniors. When 29 little freshmen and 2 newcomers walked into Room 12, they had the feeling that they had ac- complished something. Now they were Seniors. Their sponsors were Mr. Thompson and Mrs. Appleman, and their officers were, President-Roger Hess, Vice-President-Donna Gardner, Treasurer-John Landis, and Secretary- Jean Erickson. They were anticipating many things in the year to come. The class play, initiation, graduation pictures, the trip, and most important of all, Graduation Day. With the selection of their motto, Not Finished, Just Begun, the selection of their blue and white robes and four years of high school experience, 27 graduates entered the various walks of life. - Well, well, here it is 1967 and I've just completed my world tour. Oh, such a time! So many new things to ee and hear, but the most exciting and nice things about the trip was the old B. H. S. clasmates I happened to into. While in London, who should Isee but The Larry Miller delivering a vital message from a soap box in the main treet of London. When I talked to him later, he told me that Eleanor King, the famous author, was the writer of ' inspiring talk to the people. My next engagement was in Rome and as Iboarded the plane there was something about the stewardess that truck me as very familiar. Suddenly it dawned on me, it was my former classmate and good friend, Donna ardner. She told me that another classmate of ours, Chuck Barrett, was to be our pilot to Rome. p What a surprise when I met Edna Tubbs and her husband on their way to Rome for the World Mink Show and cky Miller headed for her duties as International Red Cross chairman. Becky told me that it would be quite ssible for us to see Kenny Secor while we were in Rome, for he would be there on his vacation as United tates Senator. I finally completed my world tour and started the retum trip to the U. S. aboard one of the great luxury liners. mong the passengers were LaMar Bontrager who was returning to America after completing his studies in ychology at Oxfordg Cora Collins who was traveling with the J. H. Moneybags family as teacher and govemess for their children, and Joe Riggs who told me he was now employed by the U. S. government as a counter- pionage agent. One day our ship picked up an S. O. S. from a nearby fishing vessel, which was having engine trouble. Our -chief engineer, Roger Hess, helped the distressed ship to repair it's engine and introduced us to the fishing vessel's captain, who was none other than our old friend, Bill Stevens. One evening a group of us was watching i p's lounge when the announcer of the show said, This is Bud Wilcox bringing you the 1967 as w and here is our :Erst creation. It is a Van Skyhock of Paris creation and modeled by Miss Nancy . Naturally we all sat up and took notice of the gorgeous gown designed by our old classmate, Dean. xt program on the channel was a piano concert direct from Carnegie Hall with Jean Erickson as guest St. Since I had decided to stay in New York for awhile, I made an appointment when arriving there, at the ous beauty salon of Cook and Reed. They did an expert job of styling and cutting my hair. I also had a c ce to chat for awhile with Steve and Dick. They told me that their business was very successful. I also di some shopping while in New York and just by chance I ran into Susie DeMorrow and learned that she was in New York on a very rare trip to the city since her family kept her so busy these days that she seldom had the 'me to get to New York. She also informed me that John Landis had launched a very successful career with eneral Electric as one of their electronic engineers, and that Kenny Sigsbee was the coach of the world famous 'Fabulous Five . Susie and I took time out from our shopping to have lunch at the Sheridan Hotel and our head waiter was that very dignified Dan McCarty. I also took a day to visit the New York Art Institute and while impecting the latest work of Dave James, ave himsel.f happened to walk by. He informed me that larry Garver was also in New York at the time on usiness for his speed and custom shop in California. Finally it was time to return home. I telephoned my good friend, Jack Fuller, and asked him if he could ssibly take time out from his thriving law business to meet my plane in South Bend. He did and we talked d talked about my trip and our old classmates from B. H. S. of 1957. I Written by Sally Williams
