C4156 ljshalory On the first day of school in September, 19hl, twenty three bright eyed boys and girls, with hair all combed to perfection, entered the first grade of Union School Mr E M Bryant was our most understanding teacher Those who entered school that day, were Olla Mae Brown, Audry Dunham, Jerry Haymaker, Janice Moore, Richard Morris, Ida Murray, Stanley Poe, Norma Rund, Norma Siddons, Shirley Sledge, Mark Sloop, Merrill Smith, Frankie Starnes, Alice Thompson Lois Utterback, Shirley Utterback, Charlene Wheeler, Earl White, and Maurice Moore Janice Coffman, Magdeline Harris, George Green, John Jones, Dorothy Hensley, and Doris Eads joined us later, completing our class of twenty nine When we returned in September, l9h2, we were minus George Green, Shirley Hommel, Thomas McCoy, Norma Siddons, Frankie Starnes, Charlene Wheeler, Earl White, Maurice Moore John Jones, Dorothy Hensley, and Doris Eads During that year, Theda Parmerlee, Victor Brandriff, Carolyn Cook, Shirley McTarsney, Donald J Johnson, and Olaphine Green joined us This made twenty six in our class M s E M Bryant was still trying to teach us Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic During the third year of our schooling, Miss Catherine Boaz, now Mrs Catherine Bridges, took over the task of teaching us Now we d1dn't need our parents or sisters or brothers to bring us to school since we were full fledged scholars and knew our way Our fourth year of school was very exciting and in teresting We had the same teacher, Miss Catherine Boaz We were in plays, learned our lessons well, and played Skaggs, Anna Parker, Eugenia Mabry, and James Mabry joined our class, but we lost several Mrs Mary B Harris taught us in our fifth year Multi plication tables and long division were hard to learn and memorize Spelling and reading were harder Several class mates left us and we added some new ones Ada Wiles, Robert Rainey, Richard Smith, Tilford Hash, and Phillip Porter Guess who taught us in our sixth grade' Yep! Mrs Mary B Harris! By this time reading, English, writing, spelling, social studies, arithmetic, health, music and citizenship were getting harder by the day William Query joined our class Well what do you know? We were now in the seventh grade and considered the teen age group Our principal, Mr E S Houston, signed our grading cards Our main pro blem in the seventh grade was adjusting, so that we would be in the right place at the right time We felt quite big since we now associated with the upperclassmen Pat ricia Gill, Marcella Housman, Cletic Shaw, and Marilyn Stillabower joined us that year, bringing the number in the seventh grade to twenty four Our eighth year! Were we sorry? Oh noi We would soon be in High School and expected a little respect from the underclassmen Betty Ralrdon and Harold Board joined our class continued an looster page 9 .
