SPORTS The Bristol Pirates baseball team went through a tough season this year. The team was able to come out on top in only two gamesuboth with Wakarusa. The team was very inexperienced having lost all of the regular players but three. Junior Miller, returned veteran of the war, was the leading hitter with a batting average of .322. Those who are graduating this year are: Junior Miller, Pete Kel- ler, Ralph Hemund, Gene Smith, Art Kane, and Blaine Tubbs. The Bristol Pirates Basketball team came up this season with 8 wins and 12 losses. They scored two upsets during the season, one being against Millersburg and the other being against Lapaz, which was an overtime. The toughest loss of the year was dealt out to us by Jimtown. After being behind 16 to 7 at the half, the pirates came up to give the Jimmies a scare but couldn't quite win. The score of that game was 41 to 39. At the end of the season Gene Smith managed to come out high point man with 199 points. Gene also won the most valuable player award presented by the Lions Club. The Seniors who will not return to the squad next year are Ralph Hemund, Art Kane, Jr. Miller, and Gene Smith.
