CLASS PROPHECY Today I visited the Radio Station Future Class of l947 . The first thing I saw was the program You Name It, We Play It with Helen Cathcart's orchestra. I recognized her first clarinetist, Mary Ostrom, and the guitar player, Maxine Mech- ling. Their pretty singer Mildred Schieber sang a new song composed by Helen herself. After this program Art Kane, the announcer, had to cut in and state that the radio operator, Porter Bechtel, had fallen asleep and he would attempt to waken him. Ah! He had success at last and on with the programs. . The next program was t'Nancy Raberis Home Hour Show . On this, two of our modern house wives, Winifred Schooley and Joy Nifong, were interviewed This program was sponsored by Phyllis Beven's famous Beauty Salon and Charm School in the large city of Bristol. The next fifteen minutes was a talk by a professional Artist, Dorlisca Schouten, which proved quite interesting. Then it was time to go to dinner. I went to the famous John Tomlonson's Dinner Hour Program. After a delicious meal had been served the program went on the air. Leah Thompson, his helper, started the program by singing the theme song Eat At John's . Then John went around interviewing different folks. The first person he talk- ed to was a nurse, Margaret Blood, who is the head of a large hospital in Bris- tol. Then he stopped to chat with a housewife, Dorothy Fleming, who, he discov- ered, was raising a large family. It was time for the commercial and they had the glamorous sponsor there in person, Dorothy Conover, who has the Ritz 5th Avenue Shop For Ladies. Next was the Wishing Ring Time. The lucky person was a Powers Model Mari Wetzel. We didn't know what else she could wish for. Then John interviewed William Miller, Jr., and his wife, the former Marilyn McClure. They were just visiting in the vicinity. Next to them sat Carol Her- mance, editor of the large newspaper, The Bristol Tribune, whom I recognized at once. Page 16

I, Mildred Schieber, will my many study halls, which are all afternoon, to whomever can use them to the best advantage. I, Winifred Schooley, will my bookkeeping knowledge to Raymond Rentfrow. May he find it useful. I, Dorlisca Schouten, will my knowledge in Mathematics to Marilou Bowers. I, Eugene Smith, will my love for sports to Ronald Green. I, George Sutton, will my ability to always Cat least once a weekl, have my economics to Gene Morrison. We, John Tomlonson and Ralph Hemund, will our collection of corney jokes to Johnny Long. I, Leah Thompson, will my ability to wear a different class ring every week, to my sister, Pat. I, Mari Wetzel, will my crazy faces and baby talk to Doris Smith. We, the Class of Nineteen Hundred and Forty-seven, do hereby declare this to be our last will and testament on this sixth day on May, in the Year of our Lord, Nineteen Hundred and Forty-seven. John then spun the wheel to see who the out of town guest would be. It stopped at the state of Michigan, so I popped up and said that I knew a person there and gave him Helen Landis's name. She had achieved her great ambition of being a trim housewife. The program was over and I had enjoyed myself immensely. I decided to go back to the Station and hear that famous Crooner, Ralph Hemund. Ralph had certainly beaten the old singers, Crosby and Sinatra. I heard fifteen minutes of the latest Sport's News, by Pete Keller. I was about to leave when I noticed that the great Professor George Sutton was about to go on the air. He talked on the latest Scientific Inventions. Staying this long I had to stay and hear those two great comedians, Gene Smith and Blaine Tubbs, who had taken over the Bud Abbott and Lou Costello show. The program really was a hit! I then went home and knew that I had spent a very enjoyable day with Fut- ure Class of 19473' Say! I believe I'll write my next article for the Magazine I work for on The Success of My Classmates . ' Phyllis Bechtel S520 CLASS HISTORY Continued from Page 10 Under the skeptical eyes of Miss Van Harlingen our dreadnaught battled through 1946-47, having some casualties, but ending after giving a well-presented play, This Genius Business , after selling tons of popcorn and apples at the ball games and after struggling through civics, physics, bookkeeping, etc. We were very lucky indeed to have a man from Lockridge Studio come to take our pictures We were very well pleased with them. As it was soon time for us to come back to the port from which we had left, we started our homeward journey. Because most of the members on board liked to sing, we were all ready to sing at our own Baccalaureate. We docked on May 6th at about 8 p. m., and as we walked down the gang plank, 26 serious seamen were presented their diplomas. These diplomas representing honorable discharges from the good ship B. H. S., were welcomed by everyone. Some hope to go on to a much larger ship and all realize that the seas ahead will not always be calm. Maxine Mechling Page 17
