CLASS HISTORY It was the Fall of 1943 when the Senior Class of '47 began its journey on the ol' ship B. H. S. Going up on the gang plank was Admiral Ethel Hunter followed by her staff: Phyllis Bechtel, acting officer, Pete Bojanich, assistant, Eugene Smith, secretary, and Bruce Smith, treasurer. It started off with fifty members on board knowing nothing of the bad weather and rough seas ahead. It was early in the season that the seniors gave us the thrill of our lives when they initiated us and showed us how green we really were. After many hard months of study, we docked our ship for four months to do some things we had been longing to do after having been over some pretty rough seas. Finally the crew was ready to shove off, so we all went aboard under the leadership of Miss Van Harlingen. After getting out from shore with nothing to bother us, we held a meeting to elect another staff, of which Art Kane was chosen acting ofiicer and Carol Hermace to assist him. Bruce Smith was advanced to secretary, while Pete Keller consented to act as purser. Our ship had a very busy and eventful voyage in 1945-46 under the Admiral- ty of Mr. Thompson and with Helen Cathcart at the helm. Her assistant was Art Kane, with Margaret Blood, secretary and Ralph Hemund, the keeper of the funds. Our first exciting shore leave was to stage the carnival, which netted the treasury a sizable sum. While on shore we ran into a man selling rings who took our sizes and order. We set sail again as we had to keep traveling on to complete our voy- age in the four years. It was drawing nigh to the end of the third year and we docked once more. To honor the graduating class, whose places we were soon to occupy, we decided to give them a prom. Funds were raised by giving the play, 'tShe's My Daisy . The man with the rings met us just before we set sail again and gave us something to be very proud of, for it showed how far we had advanced. Continued on Page 17 Page 10
