Come! Come! and Hear! This true life story we hold so dear, Now that we are Seniors. And the Freshmen at us sneer, The way we did just back four year. That's the way it looked to us then, That's the way it looked to us, when we were Freshmen. When the world was at our feet, And our school too lightly did we treat. we organized in '35, as I remember, Just about the first of September, When we were Freshmen. And our officers we could elect And colors, an' flower an' motto select. Frank Erb for President, Betty Phillips for Vice, Things moved briskly, the Ugoingn was nice, When we were Freshmen. p Bob Berkshire as Secretary we then selected, Also, Norma Pressler for Treasurer we elected. It wasn't long until Frosh initiation Was greatly pressed to our attention. When we were Freshmen. And it came the last of September, When the Seniors ngotn all of our 52 members. Into our Sophomore year we traveled, With 47 members, of whom 5 we unraveled, When we were Sophomores. Our class rings and pins we bargained forg We ordered them too, all the members, but four. President Bob Berkshire took the chair, Vice President Laura Davy kept Bob there, When we were Sophomores. Our Secretary was Harlin Tripp And our Treasurer was Betty Phillips. Then into another year we-went, Our treasurer said we were badly bent, When we were Juniors. So we sponsored the famed Junior Carnival Jack Clarke took charge and performed a miracle. 20 Bob Berkshire again faced the ncameran, When he led us through the Junior Prom era, When we were Juniors. nSpring Feveru was our play that year The crowd rolled in and lent an ear. The president elected was Bob Snyder, And Frank Erb Vice, acted as a reminder That we were Juniors. Earl Schmeling was in charge of the Treasury While the Secretary's records were kept by Laura Davy. Then came the year for which we all had striven, We found 59 members when they all had uarrivenn, fNow we are Seniors.j And this is the year we've all looked toward, Now here we are, with fine accord. Earl Schmeling was made this year's chief, And Dorothy Brown his assistant or his relief. CNow we are Seniors., Laura Davy again the Scribe was made And Bob Berkshire to balance the books was bade. Our Senior Play we put on one night It was titled nwell Met by Moonlightu. CNow we are Seniors.j And our Senior pictures we have had ntakedu Most of us agree, they look Uhalf-baked.n Now we look forward to that half-dreaded day To commencement and class night when they'1l give us away fNow we are Seniors.j A grand Prom we've been told to expect, To celebrate our leaving. What next? Yes, and we have Baccalaureate to face, we hope we'll acquit ourselves with some grace, Now that we are Seniors. The underclassmen say, uOh graduation'd be funn But they'll understand when their race has been won. We've lost many a teacher, yet gained many a friend While traveling the road that is soon to end, Now that we are Seniors. From our harbor fair we soon shall wend To a fork in the road called uHigh School's End.n . .Robert Snyder 21 V if N,,,......---x - k A fr M- I L x Q YQYV E K 67 ,J ea N K X 5, ,W -- S 4, l tif.-Lu: :E J f. The objectives of this club are: 1. To develop leadership and responsibility, and encourage origi- nality. 2. To give an outlet to the dramatic instinct, and at the same time strengthen correct pronunciation of Latin. 3. To furnish an opportunity for the pleasurable learning of much about the Romans and their civilization for which there is not sufficient time in class. At Laeti Latini programs, songs are sung in Latin, and simple Latin plays are presented. Talks are given on Roman mythology and Roman life, which furnishes a valuable background to class work. Episodes are dramatized from the career of Julius Caesar, and from some of the early Roman legends which are a part of the reading done in Latin I classes. 52 THE SCHOOL BAND BOTTOM: Marguerite Reed, Marion Urbanek, Norma Mosier, Muriel Hall, Victor Casselman, Don Snapp, Phyllis Brindley, Jean Martin, Martha Haas, June Schrock, Florine Stults, Betty Hilton, Richard Dixon. Mrs. Bertch and Mrs. Nihart tackled the cafeteria today, and score with a bang. Adios, nfrandn lunch pail! At a student assembly this afternoon Mr. Thompson awarded Patro Medals to Carl Virgil, Tom Harman, Jim Ganger, Harlin Tripp, an Harry Berkshire, in recognition of their services as Patrol Boy last year. The Juniors ordered their class rings today, and are they ever bee yewtiful! Company today! Dean Hertzler, of Goshen College, brought a group o practice teachers to see how teaching should really be taught. Suc alliteration! Tsk, tsk, tks. Miss Hall, a new teacher, who hails from Andrews, for Music, Health and Art. Nature--FINE. Knowledge--Considerable. Looks---Grade-A The acid test, administered today by the Seniors, relieved the Fros of such a portion of their greenish hue that we are assured that be fore the year is over, they will be almost like the rest of us. Organization week I guess. Glee Clubs, Girl Reserves, and the Girl Double Trio are all off to a good start. Miss Hall is really nsponsoring' person. They're all her responsibilities! More company! Only this time it's official! Trustee Kirkdorffer County Supt. Strycker, and State Inspector Mullens gave us the onc over. Hope everything's O.K.! The Freshmen responded graciously to their party Qshall we call it? by inviting us all to the Elkhart Roller Rink. They furnished th invitation, but after that it was 'Dutchn! Today the Laeti Latini, CHappy Latins to youl, organized unde leadership of Miss Van. Senior Class, arrayed in all their special attire, posed to for the pictures which hold the place of honor in this competi for the Book of the Year. P.S. the Our day tor Although the first report card of the year was issued today, we Gir Reserves forgot our worries for a few hours while we enjoyed an out door party at the home of Charlotte Myers. The occasion was i honor of the new members. By mutual agreement, we reinstated Dot Brown, Maridean Rimpler, an Franklin Erb as cheer leaders for the coming basketball season. I view of the fact that they have all had experience, we should reall have some high class yelling this year! Hi-Y Reorganization Day! That 50g membership fee, the new officers rules, and plans were all completed in a very business-like manner Looks like we're really going to have some results from this resur rected club. . Oh happy day! Twp whole free days for that matter, to dance an dine or just to sleep. The teachers, poor dears, are at Institute Just breezed in from the Junior Carnival, and it's plenty late! Th fact that this grand Hallowe'en party comes only once a year excuse us a little though. Dancing to ,the sweet strains of the world' best orchestras, Cmade possible by an electric victrolal and practi cally gorging ourselves with the world's best food, fmade possibl by the Junior Girlsl not to mention meeting some nice out-of-tow folks, really left no doubt in anyone's mind as to the success o the entire affair. Congratugations, Juniors! Oct Nov Nov Nov Nov Nov Dec Dec Dec Jan. Jan Jan Jan Jan Jan Jan 31, 3. 11, 12, 25, ze, 14, zo, 21, 2. 14, 18, 22, 24, 25, 27, The proofs came today for the senior pictures, and the majority fof Seniorsl think they're Grade-A. At a staff meeting today we decided to call our Annual the nHil1- topper . We also were assigned portions of town to cover for Annual sales and ads. This is where ygu, dear reader, come in! An Armistice Day Program, in the hands of the Hi-Y boys, was the ob- ject of a meeting of the student body this morning. Rev. Ashley, of Elkhart, was the speaker. He was presented by Mr. G. E. Johnson, as were several other Legionnaires. Lloyd Sindle, Franklin Erb, and the Girls Double Trio completed the program. A sophomore class party was held this evening at the Roller Rink in Elkhart. Much to our delight, we were all asked to attend. Despite the fact that quite a few of us suffered untold misery from our various bumps, a pleasant time was had by all l Mr. Bock was in such a hurry to get home to his turkey that he for- got to duck when a new-car truck took a pass at him. The result ---- The right side of his Plymouth missing, but his temper very much in evidence. A swell Thanksgiving vacation, but I'm afraid wefre not thankful for the right things. Most of us appreciating vacation, I'm enjoying a little sleep, and Miss Hall is thanking her lucky stars that the cop only warned her, instead of 811.50 and costs. Maybe you'll be more careful hereafter, Dona. If All's well that ends well , the Senior Play will be classed as a rollicking success. The crowd was large, the cast competent, the slips were few and far between, the profits exceeded Miss Van's highest hopes, and everybody's happy. It was a swell performance, the Seniors are pleased, I'm dead tired, so good-night, dear diary. Ave, 'er I mean hi, diary. Just home from the Latin Christmas Party and my attempts at Latin expression are still pretty feeble. A nice group and a nice evening. Vale now! Home again, and am I glad! We met at the school house, and low and beholdl, there were forty or fifty of us. After a happy, land shiv- ery, hour or so of caroling we returned to the school kitchen where big bowls of chili and cups of hot chocolate awaited us. When they were devoured and all the reserve supply gone, Cand believe you me, it didn't take longl, some of the more brave carolers returned for another short interlude of carols, but soon, despite the apprecia- tion of our 'victimsn, the cold night won out, so we put out our lanterns and hurried home. The first school day, of the first week, of the first month in a new year. Our holiday vacation has come and gone so now we'l1 get down to business. It's tourney time, but due to the fact that our luck was abominable we won't discuss it much. It is enough to refer you to the sports section. Senior Announcements were chosen today. Following a disastrous skiing party today there appeared before the public..l-A red face, and 2-A new little patch, put where it would do the most good. That face surely wasn't Dotty's, or was it? We had an exceptionally good lot of school movies today. They are arranged to fit in with our various classes. By request of Mr. Harman, Mr. Baughman provided us with a new paddle today. Oh where, Oh where, is the old one gone? Our pep session must have done some good. Anyway, we beat New Paris tonight by a good eight points. 59 Jan. Feb Feb Feb Feb Feb Feb 51, 2. 6. 17, 22, 24, 27, ze, School's out! For today and yesterday anyway. Despite the drifts Earl and His Carload got here right on time Monday morning. Nic going Earl! P.S. Don't tell Ginny, cause it's a secret, but she's to have a sur prise party tonight! It's plenty icy, Cisn't it Miss Van?l but aside from that one spill it's been an uneventful day. On-accounta flu and spring fever we're all feeling so low' we'r reaching up to touch bottoml' Don't blame me for that littl remark. It's a direct quotation from Mr. Harman. The school dance, which sounded so good, has fizzled completely, du to the flu epidemic which is sweeping our school. Keep up you spirits though, on accounta we'll have it before the Prom. If you're worrying about the extra heavy usage of blue slips th last couple days, put your mind at rest, dear reader. lt's onl try-outs for the coming amateur program. 34? Check! 21? Check! Don't mind me folks. I'm just getting meas ured for cap and gown. A general atmosphere of Where's this? , and Where's that'? , ver well describes today, the last one for work on the Annual.
