,.nuf., I 1 I I Brief History of the Schools of Washington Township The Bristol school was the first consolidated school in northern Indi- ana. the schools of Washington township having been consolidated in 1903 when the center portion of the present building was erected. In 1923, three rooms were added on the west side and the entire building was provided with modern conveniences. In 1925 the community building. 65 by 95 feet in dimensions, was erect- ed at the east side, making it possible for an expansion of the curriculum and better facilities for the social development of the community. The enrollment of the school has shown a rapid growth during the past few years. At present. there are 183 pupils in the first six grades and 152 in the Junior-Senior high school. The increased enrollment has brought about an extra teacher, an expanded curriculum and a reorganization of the school into a six-six plan. The steady improvement in the school brought recognition from the state department in the form of a continuous commission during the school year of 1929-30 which was regranted for the school year of 1930-31 without inspection. The present valuation of the building is placed at 365,000 An addition of land was added to the playground on the west side, making it possible for ample parking space for those who drive, and for the loading and unload- ing of children at the west side of the building. The grounds have been well fenced and new playground equipment added. Seven busses travel 95 miles daily in bringing rural pupils to and from the school. Page four
