Bristol High Schoor John F. Kennedy Memorial Bristol, R.I. 2 Mr. William Fasano The many years of continuous devotion and contribution as Senior Class Advisor may have seemed to be unnoticed. The true qualities of loyalty and leadership have been shown to us by Mr. William Fasano. He has touched each of us in a very special way. His strength and ability has certainly helped our class attain its highest goals. It is in his unselfish giving and genuine interest that the Class of nineteen hundred and eighty-three is honored to include in their dedication, Mr. William Fasano. ▼ Mrs. Linda Jouklaris We also could not go without remembering a woman who has exemplified outstanding qualities and given her time as well as her true friendship to each of us. Her time spent as Student Council Advisor is of countless value. Her strength and devotion will never be forgotten for she has meant so much to all of us through the years. We love you Mrs. Linda Jouklaris. 4 Mr. Victor Cabral The characteristics of concern for each ◄ individual, along with strength and sincere interest can truly be found in Mr. Victor Cabral. Whether in or out of class, he always wants us to come out on top. For every smile he has shared with every life he has touched, we will always remember and be grateful to Mr. Victor Cabral. Dedicating a yearbook is not an easy task. Throughout our years at Bristol High School the class of nineteen eighty-three has been extremely fortunate to have been associated with so many dedicated and understanding people. For this reason we felt that the nineteen eighty-three Green and White should be dedicated to four very special people who have guided us in all types of situations, both as concerned teachers and sincere friends. v Mrs. Virginia Cavallaro The class of nineteen eighty-three has been guided by a woman who clearly exemplifies what we believe a class advisor should be. Her accomplishments as both a teacher and advisor will never be forgotten. Her devotion to our class has been outstanding. Through her guidance and endless dedication, our class has achieved many goals that would have otherwise seemed impossible. So with sincere appreciation, we dedicate the nineteen eighty-three Green and White to our advisor and friend, Mrs. Virginia Cavallaro. 5 Let's talk. I saw ya! I'm so depressed. 6 7 TIME As time marches on through our high school years we have learned from our many experiences. We have worked beyond the books to achieve a better understanding of life. Friendships have been made and special moments have been shared. These memories will become a part of us as we travel along the parade of life. 8 There's a party goin' on around here. — A celebration — to last throughout the year. So bring your good friends and your laughter too — 'cause we're gonna celebrate our party with you. CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES C'MON!!! 12 13 SOPHOMORE HOP 14 FRESHMAN FROLIC Our underclassmen have always been special at Bristol High School. They are growing through their high school years making memories to last forever. The pictures here illustrate the fact that all underclassmen are just as important as anyone else. 16 Band Trip 18 Diary of Anne Frank This show was the first drama that had been done in several years at Bristol High School and was presented April 29, 30 and May 1, 1982. We spent many hours researching life during World War 11 to help us understand how the Frank family and their friends might have felt. We also entered a part of this play in the R.I. State Drama Festival at Hope High School, Bristol's first time in the competition. Although we didn't win, this show taught us a lot and from it we gained many new friends. 19 Close-Up Trip The week long Close-Up trip to Washington, D.C. taken March 28 to April 3, 1982 was tilled with many exciting activities. We spent a day on Capitol Hill; hearing from Representative Fernand St. Germain. Representative Claudine Schneider, Senator Claiborne Pell and Senator John H. Chafee. On Wednesday night we went to a dinner theater in Rockville, Maryland and saw the show Gypsy. We sat through many seminars on such issues as arms control, book banning and lobbying. We closed the week with a banquet and dance before we turned in for our long trip home. The week was one of fascinating experiences and pleasant memories. They spend many afternoon hours perfecting their Track and Field skills. Although the Boys' Track Team was small, they worked well in developing a strong team. Participating in various meets they were always energetic and spirited. One of the first activities as a class was painting the rocks. On Saturday, September 5, 1982 we dressed up in old jeans and sweatshirts and headed for the high school. Before long the rocks had a new coat of green and white paint. The names of seniors and the year 1983 was splattered all over them. These pictures reflect one of the many memories that we will cherish from our senior year at Bristol High School. Okay, now how do we get off? 30 Heave-Ho! Artist at work of Green and White What's getting painted? Victory in '83! Damn-Dam! Homecoming week is a special time of year. At this time all classes are brought together for events that exemplify school spirit. The student council plans and prepares the week of events. Throughout the week, the many events include; Green and White Day, Volleyball games. Class day and the Pep rally. On the last day the Homecoming Football game is held, during which the Queen and her court are selected. We lost the football game against Classical, 22-20, nevertheless the Homecoming Dance held that evening was a great success. A record of 14-2-3 gave them their eleventh Division Title. After winning the title the Colts went on to beat Burrilville (4-1), Chariho (2-1), and Cumberland (1-0). The final game was played at Brown University where Bristol was defeated in the second sudden death overtime with a score of (1-0). 40 I am very proud of the whole team. I think excellent season as far as coaching, I enjoyed this season very much, because some players had quite a bit of enthusiasm as well as responsibility. 41 43 Oklahoma! November 18, 19, 20, and 21 brought the first student-faculty show to Bristol High School and it was a great success. With a large cast and help from the community, we learned a lot and really had a good time. The show was directed by Mrs. Marianne Douglas with musical director — Mr. Chuck Mello, choreographer — Bo Crowell, and technical director — Mr. Mike Martinous. The show starred Eric Beskid as Curly and Tricia Anderson as Laurey with Mr. Lou Pezzullo, Mr. Terry Douglas, Mr. Vic Cabral, Mr. Frank Fales, Miss Nancy Warren, Mrs. Mary Carol Bryant, and Mrs. Carolyn Salvaggio as our first faculty participants. It takes place at the Rhode Island Statehouse with committee meetings, party caucus, lobbying, and floor debate. Student written bills when passed by the Model Legislature will be requested for admission to the real general assembly for their consideration. This program provides a real-life experience in general assembly action. D.E.C.A. Deca is the local chapter of the Distributive Education Clubs of America. The program is designed to promote leadership and develop personal qualities. It teaches the student marketing, merchandising and management. Students participate in many activities throughout the school year. The highlight of these activities is the participation in the state leadership conferences and the annual competition in the National Leadership Conference. Ed. 152 Voc. Ed. 153 II 154 CLASS HISTORY It was September, 1978 when we, as eighth graders, sat in the Bristol High School Auditorium listening to our principal, Mr. Iasiello, read the rules which we were to follow during our stay in the high school. During the beginning of our eighth grade year, our first elections were held. Those elected were: President, Ken Rodrigues; Vice-President, Tricia Mello; Secretary, Judy Farley; Treasurer, Margaret Milhomens; and Parliamentarian, Siobhan Callery. The class Homecoming queen candidate was Alice Bilodeau. At our eighth grade dance we had the group Sweet Savage and the theme song was Come Sail Away. As Freshmen, our officers were: President, Kris Murray; Vice-President, Tricia Mello; Secretary, Amy Hayes; Treasurer, Kenny Cabral; and Parliamentarian, Siobhan Callery. The Homecoming queen candidate was Amy Hayes. Our Freshman Frolic was held in the cafeteria with the group Limited Edition. Our theme song was The Long and Winding Road. The United States Hockey Team won the gold medal at the Winter Olympics in Montreal ... The hostages finally returned home safely from Iran_______and Ronald Reagan was elected president over Jimmy Carter during our Sophomore year. The Homecoming queen was Judy Ferreira. Our class officers were: President, Judy Ferreira; Vice-President, Tricia Mello; Secretary, Amy Hayes; and Treasurer, Stephanie MacDougall. The Sophomore Hop, held in the cafeteria, had the group Destiny. Our theme song was Your Song. We received our class rings and began to prepare for our Junior Year. Time was short and we soon realized that we were Juniors. Class officers were elected as follows: President, Carlo Martino; Vice-President, Tricia Mello; Secretary, Amy Hayes; Treasurer, Jill Zufelt. We, the Junior class, held a Haunted House fund raiser for Halloween and while carrying out this project learned how close the members of our class had become. A lot of time and effort was put into the project and it was a great success. The Homecoming queen candidate was Vickie Brett. Our first formal dance, the Junior Prom, was held at the Marriott Inn in Providence. The group was Cold Stare and the theme song was Open Arms. We returned, as glorious Seniors, to Bristol High School for the last time in September, 1982. Our lives were full of hopes and expectations. The officers elected to lead our class were: President, Carlo Martino; Vice-President, Tricia Mello; Secretary, Amy Hayes; and Treasurer, Jill Zufelt. The Homecoming Queen was Vickie Brett. During our Senior year, the Drama Club put together a play entitled Oklahoma, which met with great success; Sarah Amaral lost her position as town administrator to Thomas Byrnes; and the town of Bristol purchased a new aerial fire truck. The Falkland Islands were invaded by Argentina, but were recaptured by the British. The rock group, The Who, made its last tour of America. The Senior Reception was held at Beechwood Manor in Newport on May 29, 1983. Our class advisor was Mrs. Cavallaro, who stuck with us through all our chaotic meetings. Now, as we gaze back at all the good times we had at Bristol High School, we know that we cannot turn back the clock for the Class of 1983. We have graduated, but retain memories of some of the most wonderful years of our lives. Cheryl Floor Class Historian Sophomore 160 As Jolly Juniors While looking forward to our Senior Year, our class treasury was further strengthened by the proceeds from some spectacular activities. The major events of the year were the Haunted House and the Junior Prom. The Prom Queen was Fatima Medeiros. 162 163 164 Class Officers Advisors: Virginia Cavallaro and William Fasano.
