Whereas each of these objects is important to the success of any Chemistry program, they remain lifeless and inadequate unless they become creative forces through the expertise, enthusiasm, and imagination of a creative teacher. Mr. Antone Medeiros is such a teacher. It is our joy, privilege, and honor to dedicate the 1981 Green and White to him. It is our small way to thank him for the time and effort which he dedicates to each and every student. DEDICATION DEDICATION DEDICATION DEDICATION DEDICATION DEDICATION 5 Paul A. Darling FACULTY FACULTY FACULTY FACULTY TEACHERS AND STUDENTS The cycle of life revolves each day Seasons, holidays, schedules Birth, life, death We live to learn and roles are either teacher or student But even these are interchangeable For we teach each other We learn equally — from each other And our tasks are similar To light the way for others To show mankind the way To truth for better living To leave something of love and good and worth behind. — Bryant — 15 SUPERINTENDENT Stephen Grellet, a French-born Quaker who died in New Jersey in 1855, would be unknown to the world today except for a few lines which made him immortal. The familiar lines, which should serve as an inspiration to all of us. are as follows: “I shall pass through this world but once. Any good that I can do. or any kindness that I can show any human being, let me do it now and not defer it. For I shall not pass this way again. And although those bridges seem never ending, you venture forth without fully understanding. Soon you find that you have achieved what you set out to do, and instead of hindering, the bridges aided you. From that time on, the bridge becomes a symbol, the essence of Strength and true Control. Donna Flanagan GREEN WHITE STAFF Advisor. Sean Drury A yearbook is something you will look back on in the years to come to remember your high school years. The 1981 Green and White staff has worked hard to achieve the high standard which you expect from it. We’ve spent many long hours working on and collecting ads from area businessmen, laying out pages and raising money so you will have the best yearbook possible. We have received much help and guidance from our advisor Sean Drury. Our editorial staff consists of many devoted and hardworking students: Marcia Dollins, Editor; Paula Fonseca. Senior Section; Paula Belmore. Faculty; Susan Cross. Organizations; Karen Quigley and Maria Moskala, Sports; Valerie Parrillo. Activities; Donna Flanagan. Business; and Anne Dollins, Underclassmen Editor. We would like to thank the many people who offered their time and support to make this yearbook a great success. Students who participate learn how to write articles, and organize the materials for a newspaper. We have accomplished much in the past and hope to do more in the future. We hope to increase the number of our publications. One of our objectives is to rent a terminal and printer, so we can type our own stories in the finished form. Editor-in-Chief: Clifford Morey Advisor: Mr. Robert Jeffrey 59 CLOSE-UP 60 MODEL LEGISLATURE Close-Up is a one week non-partisan United States Government study. The students who are involved in Close-Up spent the week of March 22-23 of this year in Washington, D.C. Students seek support from area merchants and members of the community to offset the expenses of the week. Approximately forty students were involved this year under the direction of Mr. William Fasano. To understand the government more completely, some students joined Model Legislature. This is a mock session of the R.l. Legislature that is co-sponsored by the R.l. Social Studies Association and the Department of Education. There are seven students which represent BHS this year. Mr. Fasano is also advisor to Model Legislature. CHORUS PRESIDENT: Donna Ramos VICE PRESIDENT: Michael Anderson SECRETARY: Patricia Anderson TREASURER: Monica Calandra DRAMA CLUB Drama is still alive at Bristol High! It had a very successful beginning, and this year has proven to be an even more exciting year. The club is comprised of a number of Latin students who are very involved in the tradition of the Classics. These students wish very much to keep the Classics alive. Among the many activities which interest the students is the “Certamen. It is a competition among different schools and seeks to test each students' knowledge of Latin grammar, mythology, and ancient history. It is never unusual to see over two hundred students at these competitions, thus proving that Latin is far from a dead language. 64 SENIOR DECA This year the Junior-Senior D.E.C.A. has approximately thirty three members. Mr. Ferreira is the advisor to this energetic group of future business leaders. The school store gives the members of D.E.C.A. an opportunity to learn and utilize business skills. Also, it extends to the student body a chance to buy school supplies and snacks. Senior D.E.C.A. In October we elected our first class officers. They were: President, Ray Cabral; Vice-President, Judy Costa; Secretary, Carolyn Bruscato; and Treasurer, Karen Quigley. Our advisor was Mrs. Mello. During the course of the year we had a few cake sales and car washes, and we managed to hold our first semi-formal dance, which was held in the Bristol High School cafeteria on May 14th, 1977. The music was played by Starfire, and we danced to our theme song Make It With You. As June came, we found ourselves one step closer to our graduation. In September of 1977, we returned to the high school as Freshmen. Our new advisor was Ms. Gib-bemeyer, and our class officers were: President, Jimmy Rielly; Vice-President, Michelle Gordon; Secretary, Lorie Moran; Treasurer, Karen Quigley. We managed to have a successful year. We had a few raffles, a candy sale, a few mixers, and some cake sales. Besides the Christmas Dance, which was co-sponsored by the Sophomore Class we had another dance, The Freshman Frolic. It was held on May 6, 1978 in the cafeteria. Music was provided by Lazareth and the theme song was “If. As the year came to an end, we found ourselves another step closer. As September once more came around, we again returned to school, but this time as Sophomores. We spent the first few months trying to find a class advisor; we finally found one in the person of Mr. Roland Rodrigues. The class officers for the year were: President, Mike Bruno; Vice-President, Michelle Gordon; Secretary, Lorie Moran, Treasurer, Beth Oliver. We co-sponsored The Christmas Dance with the Freshman class. Also, we had a mixer, sold candy, and had a few cake sales. As spring approached, we were planning our Sophomore Hop, held on May 18, 1979. The music was by Universe, and the theme song was Always and Forever. As we ordered our class rings at the end of May, we became aware of how close we were to our goal. As we reentered the High School after our summer vacation, we looked forward to receiving the class rings we ordered in May. This took place on September 21, 1979. We were now Juniors, and we looked forward to an exciting year. Our officers were: President, Donna Flanagan; Vice-President, Jon Mello; Secretary, Lorie Moran; Treasurer, Sue Cross. Our Advisor from the previous year, Mr. Rodrigues, remained with us. We started the year by selling candy to raise money for the Christmas Dance, which was co-sponsored by the Seniors. It was held at the Coachmen. The rest of the year was spent raising money, having mixers, cake sales, raffles, and having our first macaroni supper. Our Junior Prom was held on May 15, 1980, at the Marriott Inn, in Providence. Music was presented by Mr. Natural and the theme song was You’ve got a Friend.” When June arrived, we were the ushers for Class Night and Graduation for the Class of 1980. At that moment we realized how close we were to our own graduation. During the summer we prepared for the year to come by having our Senior formals taken. During the last week of August we partook in the annual tradition. We painted the rocks. We had finally made it!! Our Senior year was about to begin. On September 3, 1980, the Class of 1981 entered Bristol High School, as Mighty Seniors. Homecoming was held the week of October 6-11 and the week ended with our class winning The School Spirit Award. In December two events took place. We were fitted for our caps and gowns, and we held the Junior-Senior Christmas Dance at the Coachmen Restaurant on December 23rd. As the New Year arrived, we began to make preparations for The Senior Fashion Show which was to be held on April 8, 1981 and also the Senior Reception to be held on May 29th at the Hearthstone Inn. Even more important were the plans being made for the week of June 8th. The people who were, perhaps, the busiest were: President, Donna Flanagan; Vice-President, Jon Mello; Secretary, Lorie Moran; Treasurer, Sue Cross; and our two advisors, Mr. Rodrigues, and Mr. Fasano. We were now becoming aware that we would soon be going our separate ways. Yet none of us would forget the wonderful friendships made, the good times had, and especially, the memories which we would forever cherish and never leave behind, even as we joined the ranks of those who had already been graduated from Bristol High. It seems to me they come to share Each joy or sorrow that we hear. Among the living I can feel The sweet departed spirits steal, And whether it be weal or woe, I walk with those I used to know. I can recall them to my side Whenever I am struggle-tried; I've but to wish for them, and they Come trooping gaily down the way, And I can tell to them my grief And from their presence find relief. In sacred memories below Still live the friends of long ago. To our friend, Steven, Who left us quickly, We dedicate this page. Your laughter, your love of life and your friendship Have been truly missed. 205 902 ADVERTISEMENTS ADVERTISEMENTS ADVERTISEMENTS ADVERTISEMENTS ADVERTISEMENTS Generosity .
