A BRISTOL HIGH SCHOOL JOHN F. KENNEDY MEMORIAL BRISTOL. RHODE ISLAND Dedication There is a certainty in this man Who is unafraid to share himself with others, Unafraid to become involved in the Candid life of a student. This certainty he lives Is the Christ he teaches. He engages with vitality His learning and teaching life. We admire the way he approaches its problems, And he is our example. We aspire to be like him As he is like Christ. To him we dedicate this book In an attempt to return some of the respect That he first gave to us. Seniors U3 Class History With the excitement of exploring a new high school complex, we entered Bristol High School. We soon learned, however, that our new environment would force us to abandon our irresponsibility, and to cope with confusing student schedules and one-way staircases and corridors. We were happiest amongst our fellow classmates, but weary of the towering and all-powerful upperclassmen. As we approached our freshman year we were more than ready to organize ourselves under the leadership of Mr. Grabert. We selected class officers, built a float for the first annual homecoming parade, held cake sales, a car wash, and finally celebrated an extremely successful year beneath a SHOWER OF STARS. Certainly this first year of activities displayed our abounding enthusiasm and a definite desire for unity. Our high school years were young and we were anticipating an even more exciting future at Bristol High School. As sophomores under the direction of Mr. Salmani, we experienced another fun-filled year of activities. Our efforts in building a homecoming float were awarded Second Prize in the float competition. Again we held cake sales and other fund raising activities in preparation for our Sophomore Hop, a PROMENADE AU PARC, on the delightful evening of May 15. We exerted more individual freedom as juniors, but were still able to retain that same interest in the activities of our class. The excitement of this new year was heightened by the receiving of our class rings in early November. We displayed a continued interest in the various sports of our high school, and found particular enjoyment in attending the different school dances. Our interests reached out to the community when we sponsored the Trinity Square production of “School for Wives here in our high school auditorium. Spring approached quickly and our visits to the Guidance Office became more frequent. It was time to start planning for the future, to begin the difficult task of making a career choice. Our interests and ideals were being forced to look beyond the setting of our high school careers. We felt uneasy about this new stress on our lives after high school, as we were still anticipating the most exciting and eventful year of all, our senior year. We closed our eyes to the difficult business at hand, as we celebrated another successful year to the theme of EVERYTHING IS BEAUTIFUL, on April 28, 1972. We can never forget the anxiety of our first day as seniors of B. H. S. Just as we were beginning a new and different year of unknown tasks and pleasures, so was our new high school administration. Mr. Anthony Iasiello, a man of great capacity and great will, had vigorously taken the reins as Principal. We witnessed the adjustments in school rules and regulations and followed without hesitation and with great respect. Also, qur new class advisors had been appointed. We were happy to learn that they were namely, Mr. William Fasano and Mr. A. William Josephs. The fall of our senior year held such pleasures as the building of our homecoming float, only to win Second Prize for the third consecutive year. The class with the Most School Spirit for 1972 completed the festivities with a harvest Halloween Dance. After the confusion and excitement of Homecoming had subsided, we again faced the dilemma of selecting the proper colleges and vocational schools and of completing the infamous college board tests. The Christmas Dance offered a delightful time off campus on December 20th., and Greaser Day was in full swing to the tunes of the 50’s on January 19th. Students of all ages flocked to the dance that Saturday night dressed in the traditional garb of that era. A true school spirit and unity amongst the various classes had never seemed so strong. Our senior class also staged such activities as a Pot Luck Supper and Valentine’s Mixer, however, the high school seemed to be awaiting some invisible and unknown entertainer in the class’s presentation of HARVEY on March 16th and 17th. The year’s end is now upon us, and we have held the traditional senior prom, class banquet, and finally graduation with mixed emotions. It is time to say goodbye to those friends and teachers we have known for so long. Let us pray that we have only fond memories of our high school years together. Our paths will lead in many different directions, but all emerge from the same foundation. Are we prepared to accept the responsibilities of a new and different life? Are we ready to face this hard, yet beautiful world with confidence and strength? “ . . . and whatever your labors and aspirations in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul ... AND MRS. ARTHUR COSTA A ckn o wledgem en t The yearbook staff would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Mr. Domenic Raiola for his unfailing support and guidance as our advisor. Without his experience in yearbook business and his confidence in our ideas and decisions, this book could not have been published. A special thanks to Mrs. Mildred House for her hard work and cooperation throughout the year. Her fine talent as a photographer provided us with the pictures of the shadowed path, the Mt. Hope Bridge, the Chapel by the Sea, and the snowy road. She was always there when we needed her. Robert Cruso is deserving of praise as our only staff photographer, and we would also like to thank some unofficial members of the Green and White Staff, namely Lillias, Joe, Nila, Dee, and Debbie, for their help during our annual Spaghetti Supper. And of course, we are especially thankful to Mr. and Mrs. Nunes for allowing the staff to occupy their basement for countless hours in the preparation of this yearbook. And finally, we'd like to express our sincere appreciation to Mr. lasiello, Mr. Contente, Mr. Campagna, the members of the faculty, and the office secretaries for their cooperation throughout the school year. Without their assistance, our numerous picture schedules could not have run smoothly. 255 Desiderata Go PLACIDLY AMID THE NOISE AND HASTE. AND REMEMBER WHAT PEACE THERE MAY BE IN SILENCE. AS FAR AS POSSIBLE WITHOUT SURRENDER BE ON GOOD TERMS WITH ALL PERSONS. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and agressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesom discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy . . . REPRINTED FROM “POEMS OF MAX EHRMANN” COPYRIGHT 1968 BY CRESCENDO PUBLICATIONS
