Make every yesterday a dream of happiness And every tomorrow a vision of hope Look well to this day! Such is the salutation of the dawn i m. 197T GREEN AND WHITE BhsFqI High School John t. Kennedy Memorial Bristol, Rhode Island A Dedication Dear Mr. Sylvia, Sometimes some things shouldn’t be changed. We've been trying to discover an original method to convey an ageless sentiment, and we’ve come to the conclusion that the best way is the oldest way — to express what is felt in the heart. It is a rare man that is able to advise without offense. It is an even rarer man that is able to see his advice acted upon. Yet, you are just such a man, and it has been greatly to our advantage to have known you. Thank-you for the countless times you have listened to our troubles, defended us, changed our schedules, and sent us to the office for late passes. Thank-you for making the effort and attempting to understand us and our problems. Finally, just thank-you for caring. But time is passing. We are about to take our places on the Great Mandella of Life. Yet, while we are still a unit, we would like to honor you in some way. Therefore, the members of the senior class dedicate the 1972 Green and White yearbook to you, Mr. Louis T. Sylvia. 4 5 TABLE C F CONTENTS Sports Organizations Seniors Superintendent It is with great pleasure that I extend my congratulations to the members of the class of 1972 upon their graduation from Bristol High School. Your parents and friends, I am sure, share with you the feeling of accomplishment upon your receiving a diploma which signifies more than a dozen years of formal education. The years ahead should prove more fruitful to you because of a foundation that you received in the Bristol Public Schools. I know that the days you have spent with us have been happy ones as you will agree as more time passes. I wish you great luck, success and health in your new endeavors, whatever they may be, and urge that you support the public schools as citizens of Bristol. Edward P. Travers To the Class of 72 1 Change is not always growth just as movement is not always progress. In most instances people will decide the course change and movement will take. Lansing K. CANARIO To the Class of ”72 Youth is our hope for it alone can and will make today's dreams tomorrow’s realities. May God give you the wisdom, the vision and the determination to bring about the crystalization and implementation of those dreams that will bring about a greater tomorrow. And may each of you share in the peace and the prosperity that is the hope of mankind. . . the timeless in you is aware of life's timelessness, and knows that yesterday is but today’s memory and tomorrow today’s dream.” To the Class of 72 I have enjoyed my association with you this past school year and I should like to thank all of you for making it a most enjoyable ope for me. Congratulations to all of you and best wishes in all your future endeavors. We know you are leaving with a sense of responsibility toward your country. Let us hear from you from time to time. Again — Good Luckl Assistant Principals To the Class of 72 Every once in a while a class comes along that some teachers may feel a special closeness to. The class of '72' has been my special class since our days together in the Guidance office. I am pleased and very proud that, you have done so much to help yourselves as a class as well as individually. I am confident that your successes will continue, and I am most grateful that you let me share it all with you. To the Class of 72 Often the words graduation and commencement are used interchangeably. But upon closer study it is clear that there are differences in meaning between the two. Graduation suggests a conclusion — the awarding of a diploma marking the end of a program of studies. Whereas commencement implies a beginning — a starting out on new goals. Perhaps at this time it serves well to reflect on these differences so that in recalling the past you may find resources for your commitment to the future. ii To the Class of 72 My warmest congratulations to the Class of 1972. May you always treasure memories of your school years at Bristol High School. My sincere good wishes go with all of you in your future endeavors. Assistant Principals To the Class of 72 I congratulate you on your graduation from high school. You should be proud of your achievement in completing this phase of your life. During the years to come you will be faced with the great challenges and op portunities. May God guide you and keep you. 12 Faculty MATH DEPARTMENT L. to r.: I. Contente, R. Blouin, C. Chan-ning, J. Appreciation is notably lacking on the part of the student. However, this time, we’d like to give you the recognition that you deserve. Although many of us do not know you personally, we value the companionship of your knowledge. Once again, thank you, and we hope for your happiness in future years. Respectfully, Bristol High’s Students This Morning, like the spirit of youth that means to be of note, begins. Under C JUNIOR CLASS OFFICERS Advisor — S. R. Salmani Secretary — B. J. Building castles in the air Whistling to the wind As nature bows down her head See what tomorrow brings 100 Class History Rivers of endless tides have passed beneath our feet And all too soon they have us standing on our own And if our eyes are closed, then open them and see It's the morning of our life, —The evening of our day. In the dawn of our Junior High Years, the Class of '72 hinted of great promise. Remember five Christmases ago? There was a “get together” held by the Student Council. Some may remember “Math-In or the May day on which the Student Council went to New York City. In these early stages numerous attempts were made to cement the class together. These attempts were examples of our initial awareness of the need to unify. As Underclassmen we passed into the morning of our life. Our sophomore year was a foggy memory that came into focus on April 11, 1969. We succeeded in transforming the cafeteria into an illusory world of Purple Haze. Although as Sophomores we were concerned with our individual growth, we proved by our Sophomore Hop that there was an underlying unity. Somehow, in one summer, we changed. Our horizons widened. Although we were only Juniors, we wanted to leave our mark on the community. With the Christmas Musical we had successfully reached out to the world beyond the school limits. Our thoughts then turned toward March 5, 1971, our Ring Dance. These rings were the tangible symbols of our emergence into the adult world, and we couldn 't wait to get our ring fingers into them. Time passed, and we finished the year with a burst of color on April 16 — our Junior Prom. Suddenly it was twilight, and we welcomed the challenge of seniority. We were plunged into the world of career choices, tests, engagements, applications, and colleges. We found ourselves locked between two worlds — the haven of high school and ‘the future ’ which had finally arrived. Each of us had to make decisions that evidenced our readiness to leave Bristol High. However, we were determined to enjoy the remaining days of high school. Can you recall the Car Wash and The Pot Luck Supper? Of course there were the traditional senior events also. We ‘didn't drink the water' in May, had our reception in early May, the banquet in June, and, finally, graduation. Our High School day is over. Night is upon us, yet we know that another day is sure to dawn. Have the last six years properly prepared us? What of castles in the air, our hopes and aspirations? Will they fall unrealized into the sea? Or were they built of sturdy substances which will endure? Time will tell . . . Through threats, tears, and any other device that he could think of, he has managed to have this book published. We just hope that the book is worth all of his time and worry. We're grateful to our unpaid photographers. Mrs. House took the dawn, morning, and Bristol panorama pictures. The afternoon and twilight pictures were taken by Mr. Weston, and Bob Cruso photographed the girls' sports. These people gave generously of their time and talent. Thanks Joey, Joann, Steve, Mark, and Kathy. Without your time, help, and gas this yearbook would not have been finished. Finally, we must express our gratitude to the administration, guidance department, and our teachers who have been most understanding of our repeated absences from class. We’d like to especially thank Mr. Matrone for his tape, stapler, and scissors which we were forever borrowing, and Mr. Maynard for the numerous senior lists that he made up for us.
