The person to whom a student will invariably turn must possess certain qualities not found in an average man. The Class of 1971 has recognized these abilities to understand and advise them in the person of Frank J. Campagna. His position as a Counselor in the Bristol High School Guidance Department has enabled him to come in contact with each student personally and he regards them as individuals, not merely as a name on a list. Mr. Campagna has striven to help us discover ourselves and our abilities both scholastically as well as socially. Il is through his tireless efforts that we have advanced as students and as a class and have been prepared for our lives after graduation. He has taught us to strive for goals that must he attained and to set our sights on a successful future. His belief in the ability of the student is in itself encouraging, and he has expressed particular concern and interest in our class. It is therefore with profound gratitude and sincere pride that we the members of the Senior Class of Bristol High School dedicate the 1971 Green and White to Mr. Frank J. Campagna TABLE Administration CONTENTS Underclassmen Advertisements Superintendent Edward P. Reinholz L. to ?. — Mr. Joseph Sousa, Mr. Thomas Campagna, Mrs. Jean Tappero, Mr. Joseph Kinder; ehairman, Mr. Fred Ferris, Miss Ida Sousa. Mr. Ralph Marlin School Committee Principal Mr. Frank T. Canario TO THE CLASS OF 71' Ever) generation has had its problems, its challenges and its dreams. But perhaps there has been none that has been as intensely committed as yours to making the Great American Dream come true — the dream conceived by the authors ol the Declaration of Independence and the American Constitution. May Divine Providence guide you and give you the will and strength to uphold the dignity of man ami all those rights with which he was endowed by the Creator. May your activism be orderly ami may it finally insure true justice, freedom and peace among men. 12 To the Class of ”71 1 sincerely hope that all of you graduates continue to develop your abilities and I know you will receive encouragement from your teachers, your parents, and your friends. In addition to this, I hope your attitudes concerning the future are positive. Congratulations on your achievements and best wishes for your success. Assistant Principals To The Class of ”71” It is my pleasure to be able to congratulate the Class of 71 for its accomplishments. I am particularly thankful for those efforts that you have extended in helping me through my first year as an administrator at Bristol High School. We hope, that in addition to the 3Rs. we have provided you with an opportunity to learn about yourselves as individuals. The decisions you make that concern your general well-being and happiness will be greatly influenced by that particular knowledge. We have tried to make the [joint that hard work, dedication, involvement and an honest concern for the condition of people are important ingredients to a meaningful life style. Watching Along The Way A Few Of Us 76 I Class History The year 1967 teas a new beginningr for I he Class oj 1971. Not only were we newly initialed freshmen but we were starting out in the year old complex. And complex it was! Still not accustomed to the five minute races from A building to F building between classes, and still being confused by the bell system, we found that we were only at the bottom rung of the ladder which would hopefully lead to graduation. Feeling somewhat superior (to the junior high) we began to function as a class with the election of our first class officers. School spirit took shape with the winning of Basketball and Football Championships as we realized our position in the Student Body and cheered our teams on with newly found enthusiasm. Our Sophomore Year found us well established in Bristol High School and confident of future good fortune. In this ambitious frame of mind we began plans for our first major project, the Sophomore Hop. Amidst millions of paper flowers The Sunshine of Your hue blossomed forth and crowned our efforts with success. With the arrival of 1969 and the start of a promising Junior Year we faced a financial dilemma which had to be solved before we could even begin to think of future projects. However, by this lime the Class of 71 was known for its strong nucleus of workers who quickly came up with ideas for raising money. The first of these endeavors was a traditional Spaghetti Supper which succeeded in drawing great numbers of people, anxious to sample gourmet cooking. 71 style. Spurred on by our accomplishments we lunged into a get-rich-quick combination car wash and cake sale. Satisfied with our bulging treasury which increased as class dues were collected, we felt safe enough to proceed with preparations for the Junior Prom. This was on every’ Junior's mind and flower parties brought us even closer together as we strove to make ours the best prom yet. April 22nd saw the busiest group of Juniors ever to hit the Coachman, as we struggled to transform it into Oriental Springtime. With happy memories of a beautiful prom behind us we looked forward to the one event that would truly make us a part of Bristol High School. This of course was receiving our rings. With the distinctive 1971 engraved on them no one could doubt that we had made a place for ourselves as a class in the school. It was with mixed feelings of awe and excitement that we approached our Senior Year. Linking back we realized how far we had come but this was no time to stop. Homecoming weekend was just ahead and the new Senior Class had to prove itself worthy of its name. First place achieved this as our prize-winning Coll added a unique ingredient to the Homecoming Parade throughout Bristol. Our new status, it seemed, merited more than just a passive respect ami the administration recognized this in their awarding oj Honor Passes to our entire class. The final rung on our ladder seems much closer now as we look forward to graduation. However no matter how much a part of Bristol High School we've become we realize that these y ears are not the end hut just the start of a bright and promising future and truly . . . We are especially grateful to Mr. Domenic N. Raiola, who in his role as advisor to the staff, devoted endless time and energy in encouraging and inspiring us in our work on the book. It was with his help that we were able to establish ourselves as a staff, to produce what we hope has been an accurate and interesting account of our high school years. We would also like to thank the administration, faculty members, office clerks and secretaries who we realize were more than understanding and patient with us, and without whose cooperation we could have never completed our task. To all those who supported us through their subscriptions, advertisements, and cooperation in our activities throughout the year, may we express our profound gratitude and our sincere appreciation in having been granted the opportunity to publish the 1971 Green W hite .
