Walsh Teaching a person to live with himself and with mankind is not an easy task. For a teen-ager to feel close enough to an adult to bring his problems to him, there must he respect. We have always felt that we could seek out the understanding we needed in Mr. Walsh. Whether it w£ts learning the conjugation of “amo” and “laudo” in the eighth grade, or puzzling over the Vietnamese crisis, Biafra, and whether or not girls should wear slacks to school in our senior year, Mr. Walsh was there to guide us. From his job as an educator, to his hobby as a friend, he has always shown to us the kind of love and respect the world needs to close the generation gap. Because we have shared these experiences of joy and sorrow, we the Senior class dedicate the 1970 Green and White to Mr. Michael F. Walsh. Dedication What peaceful hours . . . I once enjoyed. 6 t Contents •• Faculty Seniors Features Activities Organizations Underclassmen Advertisements To Mr. Edward Fitzgerald Our words of thanks cannot begin to repay his countless hours of work and devotion to our education at Bristol High. His efforts have made possible fond memories of our high school days. Though many of us do not know him personally, we value the companionship of his knowledge and devotion. As we take our next step in life, we can be assured that our schooling has prepared us fully to encounter those obstacles ahead; and through his efforts we are confident of success. We, the class of 1970, extend a special thanks and a hope for happiness and peace in his future years. With sincere appreciation we thank Mr. Edward J. Fitzgerald Superintendent 14 (left to right) Mr. Fred Ferris, Miss Ida Sousa, Mrs. C. Tappero, Mr. Fitzgerald, Mr. Joseph Sousa, Mr. Joseph Kinder, Mrs C. Thomas Campagna, Mr. Ralph A. Martin (not available for picture) To the Class of 1970 “An honest man is the noblest work of God.” —A. Pope— A teacher today has but to listen to the voices of students to discover an interesting antinomy. Young people today are in an earnest quest for identity and at the same time, they sense a strong need for community or togetherness. If your search for yourself and for usefulness to others is to be a real contribution, then the search must be an honest one. You should adjust to the world as it is and work diligently and peacefully to change it for everyone’s benefit. You can do this by telling the truth and making it a matter of conscience. You will be at ease with yourself, with God and with your fellow man. 15 Chairman of the School Committee And gladly would he learn, and gladly teach. — Geoffrey Chaucer — 16 Faculty 17 Frank T. Canario Principal To the class of 1970 I wish I had had the opportunity of knowing the members of the Class of 1970 more intimately and had become, as a result, more involved in your individual problems and aspirations. However, I sincerely pray that your plans, your hopes and your dreams may be in harmony with God’s pattern for the years to come; and when those plans, hopes and dreams crystalize, may they bring you peace of mind, may they give you the wisdom and courage to meet new challenges and may they lead you to a world where love and understanding among men may prevail. 18 Vice Principals To the Class of 1970 The time has come for you to set for yourselves some particular goal in life. This objective might be very remote at this time, but it would seem that you have now reached the stage in your life when your plans should begin to crystallize. Since your graduation is also called commencement, it points up the fact you are embarking on your life’s work. Your preparation thus far has been of a general nature and, if you have applied yourself in the proper manner, it should serve as a foundation for your chosen work. May 1 extend to each and everyone my best wishes for your success. Always remember that your success will, of necessity, include service to your community and to your country. To the Class of 1970 I appreciate this opportunity to express to all of you my sincere thanks for the many courtesies and cooperation that you have extended to me during your days at Bristol High School. 1 hope that you learned your lessons well, that you will always be a credit to your parents and to your school, and that you will be successful and happy in your chosen careers and endeavors. My heartiest congratulations and best wishes to all of you. ENGLISH DEPARTMENT (l.-r.) Mrs. Jouklaris, Mr. Raiola, Mr. Fain, Mr. Silvia. Across the gilded times of post We gaze with happiness And knowing that our hearts were free We found — togetherness Features Class History With skirts, prices, and hopes rising, we began our Freshman year. Our days were marked by the adjustment to the new complex, the teachers, the schedule, and, of course the dream to be Seniors. Success seemed inevitable as we cheered our football and basketball teams on to victory. The success story was retold as we staged the memorable Music Man. As the skirts rose higher and prices followed, we stepped cautiously into our Sophomore year. We took a more active role in school affairs and once again, the Football Championship was ours. Soccer began as a varsity sport and many of us took our first step into varsity athletics. “Up, Up, and Away” did not only theme our Sophomore Hop, but it also termed our enthusiasm for the coming year. Boys were eager to see the new high rise styles as our Junior year began. Moving to Class B our football team made an impressive showing. Soccer became the new Umelighter as we took the State Championship. Winter was host to another championship in basketball as we prepared for the first “out of school” Prom. “Love Makes the World Go ’Round” sparked the evening. The Ring Dance again stifled tradition as we received our rings while the Seniors still roamed the halls. Now, as we conclude our final days at Bristol High, we see the prices still high. But skirts are now covered with Maxis and culottes and slacks replace the traditional dress. The fall has brought to us another Soccer Championship. With a successful Christmas Dance behind us and hopes of a rewarding Senior finale, we know that we will face the future confident of success; the same success that we have met throughout our years at Bristol High. 66 t Excedrin headache 70?
