green white 1967 bristol high school bristol, rhode island 2 5 there is something in a face, an air, and a peculiar grace which boldest painters cannot trace william somerville 7 you shall above all things be glad and young e. e. cummings 9 With deep appreciation and profound gratitude, the class of 1967 dedicates their edition of the Green White to the citizens of Bristol. Without their sincere efforts to provide the best possible education for all of Bristol’s children, many of the avenues of learning that we have traveled would have been closed. The new school is a fitting monument to their continuing interest in our growth and their constant faith in our future. Its spacious facilities have served this class in countless ways, and will continue to serve the community for many more years. We sincerely thank everyone in Bristol for guaranteeing to each of us the chance to learn and grow and we hope to prove by our future accomplishments that your trust in us was justified. dedication 12 Faculty 13 MR. This year Bristol vaulted'' into the track and field scene. After a successful cross-country season, Coach Grabert turned to the task of molding a track and field team to rival some of the powerhouses in the state. He had some excellent material to work with. Along with the usual running events, Bristol participated in the pole vault, high jump, shot put, discus and javelin. FORE! A sport enjoyed by young and old alike since the Middle Ages, is golf. This year, Bristol offered golf as a varsity sport for the first time under the coaching of Mr. Rose. Like all new teams, the golf team had a long uphill battle. They faced tough competition in the league from the old pro s . However many prospective Ben Hogans, Arnold Palmers and Bob Hopes had a chance to tee off on the Bristol links this spring. TENNIS ANYONE? This year Bristolians made their bid to overtake Newport as tennis capital of the East! Boys inspired by the escapades of Kelley Robinson and Alexander Scott worked hard to become tennis bums! Mr. John Partington led the boys into this new racquet! 67 seniors scoreboard at Tolman We 3 They 5 Middletown 14 7 Pawtucket West 0 8 Rogers 1 7 St. Raphael 2 11 at Warren 0 1 Barrington 2 9 Tolman 0 7 at Middletown 6 4 at Rogers 6 7 at Pawtucket West 0 6 at St. Raphael 2 10 Warren 2 3 at Barrington 3 4 seniors 68 KENNY NASH PAUL VIVEIROS Q O” CD Q cr DAVID PACHECO RONALD ARMILLOTTO seniors 69 ALAN OLIVER cheerleaders Kneeling; Patricia Rische, capt. It was also a year marked by our confrontation with the challenges — academic, social and athletic — of the high school years. The progress of Red China in developing her first nuclear weapons, was paralleled by our faltering steps toward adulthood as we stumbled on to Sophomore year. As Juniors we were encompassed by the year of protests. While Civil Rights and Peace demonstrations were gaining national recognition, we made our own demands for change. In a time when patterned stockings were replacing the conventional knee-highs ', we started our own campaign advocating a new design for our class rings. We adopted the rollicking spirit of the Rolling Stones, but reports of the increase in the Draft cast a threatening shadow on our carefree days. The Junior Prom provided a welcome escape from worldly frustrations — a lovely world for those Young and in Love”. With the transition from 'granny'' dress to mini'' skirt we moved from the antiquated buildings on Hope Street to the ultra-modern, campus-style, space-age building on Chestnut Street. The sound of the Monkees ushered in our Senior year and provided a rocking background to our notable successes — the football co-championship and our hit musical, The King and I . With the Republican resurgence in the November elections came a new high in our school spirit as evidenced by the unprecedented mile-long victory parade. The year flew by as we journeyed to Providence for days of exciting theater, opened a school book store and participated in many new sports. All too soon it's June. In a sudden panic we grope to recapture the excitement that's passed. Now the week we have looked forward to is upon us — our class banquet, class day, and the Graduation Ceremony. The days with life-long friends are numbered and the security of the old routine is fading into memory. OuCgoals for the future may not be clear, but our hope is certain: we must try to repay the gift of learning with the accomplishments of doing, and the gift of carefree happiness with the rewards of responsible success.
