During our years in Bristol Senior High School we have been most fortunate to have you as a teacher, friend, and advisor; and it seems that the words, with variation, of the poet Edgar Guest in “A Friend’s Greeting” appropriately express our appreciation and thoughts: “We are wishing at this Commencement Time that we could but repay A portion of that gladness that you’ve strewn along our way; And could we have one wish this year, this only would it be: We’d like to be the sort of friend that you’ve been to ’64.

Greetings From John L. Burke Bristol Senior High School Principal PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE TO THE CLASS OF 1964 I would like to take the liberty to repeat a thought which has been expressed to a previous class because it is most important to you at this time. This is the period in your life when certain characteristics and ideas are being formulated which will have a direct bearing on your future. The thought is that there is an ever increasing tendency among youth and adults to measure service to others by what might be the personal gain. This you have seen manifested in the all too prevalent attitude of “What do I get out of it?” I would admonish you to be on your guard in this respect so that you and the other members of your community are always willing to give some time in the interest of community welfare. If you do this, and try to influence others to do the same, then my wish for your future happiness and success will have a better chance of fulfilment. John L. Burke Principal 4
