1 Dedicated Miss Helen Frances Horton TEACHER OF FRENCH AND HISTORY Her every tone is music's own Like those of morning birds And something more than melody Dwells ever in her words. Pickney 2 MR. JOHN L. BURKE Principal's Message TO THE CLASS OF 1958 I appreciate this opportunity to express to all the members of the Class of 1958 my sincere appreciation for your co-operation and many kindnesses to me during your stay at high school and to extend to you my best wishes for your success. I sincerely hope that we have given to you the basis for correct thinking and the courage to stand for the right. This latter you will find difficult to do especially in the light of some present day examples. Thoughtful consideration of the rights of your fellow man will assist you greatly in the proper course of action, provided you continue to realize that there is but one rule of conduct for you: that is, to do the right thing. 3 Faculty MR. After thje first few weeks of school had passed, we of 1958 became accustomed to the new routine of life. Our first school dance, new subjects, new friends and hard fought athletic contests—these were some of the happy events of our first semester in high school. As juniors, our returning to school was pleasant, and we were blase in the assurance that we still had another year at Colt. In October, class elections were held. Officers elected were: President, Joseph Antinucci; Vice-President, Frank Carmone; Secretary, Elizabeth Ann Medeiros and Treasurer, Rose Marie Rubino. The Executive Committee consisted of Katherine Bisbano, Linda Correia, Rosalind Matheson, John Pasqual, Mary Ellen Pereira, Anthony Siognoli, Joyce Squatrito, and Ronald Viera. Fall again, this time the fall of 1957, and we, the imperious seniors, returned to Colt; haughty but in a sense sad, for we knew that this would be our last, and we hoped, our best year of high school. The season flew by as we enjoyed the many activities which we found to be exclusive for seniors. A memorable class election, full of rivalry, was held. Because of an excess of enthusiasm, elections were postponed a week. The officers finally elected to guide our class were James Palreiro, President; Joseph Morra, Vice-President; Joyce Squatrito , Treasurer, and I, Julie Card, Secretary. Those elected to the Executive Committee were: Joseph Antinucci, Katherine Bisbano, Edward Goulart, Rosalind Matheson, Rose Marie Rubino, and David Usher. Then that long awaited day arrived. October 23, and every senior had in his hand a shining symbol of his high school career, a class ring. Fall of 1957 was climaxed by the annual Student Council Dance and Christmas Assembly, which seemed to us to be the finest ever presented. Winter As sophomores, our first winter at Colt was exciting, especially with the dread of mid-year examinations. These dreads were heightened by teasing seniors but vanished when we realized they weren't as horrifying as we had been led to believe. Soon March arrived, bringing with it our first class elections. Officers chosen were President, Anthony Mascola; Vice-President, Ronald Viera; Secretary, Rosalind Matheson, and Treasurer, Rose Marie Rubino. The Executive Committee consisted oi Eleanor Cavallaro, Mary Carol King, John Pasqual, and David Usher. 24 During the winter of our junior year, mid-year passed with the usual doleful cries. Then our lives were brightened as we began planning for the forthcoming Junior Prom. The winter months of our senior year were certainly busy ones. Along with the regular school activities, the senior play, followed by the operetta, went into rehearsal, under the capable direction of Mrs. M. Theresa Donovan. The title of the play, which was presented on January 30, and 31, was The Babbling Brooks . The many hours of practice and study became worthwhile, as the cast enjoyed the whole-hearted approval of the audience. The operetta was presented in March and was certainly as much of a success as the play had been. Spring Our first spring at Colt was made happy by plans for the Sophomore Hop—a dance sponsored by the sophomore class. Following this memorable occasion, came final examinations, and then what we all thought to be a well-deserved summer vacation. Preparations for the Junior Prom reached their peak during the spring of our junior year. The hard work of the committee was well repaid by the happy expressions of those who attended. Following the Prom, we all looked forward to our summer vacation, which would bring us to our last year of high school. With the approach of our senior year, dawned a sudden realization that our days at Colt were fast coming to an end. Along with studying for final examinations, every one was busy preparing for Graduation Week. Due to our growing enthusiasm, it seemed as though this week, devoted entirely to seniors, would never arrive. It did, and when the long-awaited eventful week was over, we all agreed it was the shortest five days we had ever experienced. Monday, June,2, the Class Banquet, at which we received our yearbooks, was held in the Colt Auditorium, and was thoroughly enjoyed by each and every one of us. This was followed, on Wednesday, June 4, by the Class Day Exercises. It is on this day that the innermost secrets and ambitions of many of the graduates are revealed by the reading of the wills, prophecies and history of the class. Then Thursday, June 5, 1958—Graduation! The following night, the Senior Reception, the last time we would be together as a class, was held. As we left the school after the dance, the doors that only a short three years before had opened to us, were closing behind us, bringing to an end the best years of our lives. 25 26 Girls Volleyball Team FIRST ROW, Left to Right: S. Six classmates gathered together in their jet-propelled space station. And talked of their other classmates, who had traveled to many an interplanetary nation. Albert Diodati has gone to college, For his desire on Venus was to gain more knowledge. We never expected Robert Dennis, To change from rockets to the sport of tennis. Nicholas Conti, a lover of books. On Venus has changed his technique, now he's a cook. Although, in athletics, she wasn't great, Gail was named swimming champ of one of Venus' states. Robert Gray had one idea. To make boxing, between Venus and Mars, his life career. Mary Lou and Richard have formed a team. Now owning a fleet of space trucks to fulfill their dream. Once the voice of Dave Borges rang through the school halls, Now it can be heard through all the planet's walls. David Cheesman is now quite a big star. Each year he rides in a brand new space-car. Cecilia Estrella, a good friend of mine. Is now a private detective, eliminator of inter-planet crime. His poultry farm was his greatest pride, And Bob Garvin's chickens are known universally wide. Pat Botelho's fame has spread wide and far. Since her dream is fulfilled—she's a skating star. To write love stories, was Tony DuPont's aim. And thus his work has brought him much fame. Theresa Calouro has had a great career. Busy traveling from planet to planet in her nursing sphere. If you're looking for an expert in the field of art. Just call upon our good old friend, Eddy Goulart. Putting out fires is Mancini's trade. Because now he is one of the space firemen's aids. Louis Abilheira has changed since high school days. For now he performs in atomic plays. For ballet lessons, tap-dancing and such. At Julie Card's Studio, you're to learn much. A thrilling new star has risen to fame, Kathi Magee is her name. As you know Joan Alves was always as busy as a bee. Now she travels from planet to planet as a writer of poetry. Joe Ciullo loves to fool and talk with hi s girl classmates. Now he runs a sanitarium for all female inmates. A boy with a name like Mike Mello, Could only wind up manufacturing jello. Sidney Pigeon, a boy that was gifted with height. Has designed his own space ship, and oh! what a sight. In high school Robert Usher was a scientific brain. We joined a tour on this planet Mars, and much to my delight, Frankie Borgia, the silent one, was our guide; surprisingly, we got home late that night. Out on the Martian desert stands a money-making gusher. Seated beside it with his gun is Space Cadet David Usher.
