OUR FALL FLOWER SHOW Our Fall Flower Show has become one of the leading chrysanthemum shows in New England. Newspapers are full of publicity, bringing thousands of flower lovers every year. The throngs remark, More beauti- ful than ever! with each passing show. The flowers are grown by students, under the direction of Mr. Robinson, as summer projects. Besides the growing of the plant material, a great deal of preparation from many sources is necessary to perfect our show. Designing, planning, shop construction, lighting, and long hours of hard work from both the faculty and students go into its making. The night before the show. one wonders how it can possibly be finished on time. The re-echoing sounds of hammers. saws, and voices fill the hall, while stacks of cedars, great hills of sawdust and bagsof peat add to the organized confusion. However, we always do finish on time, because Bristol has a sure- FLOWER SHOW EXHIBITORS fire formula for success: school spirit, cooperation, and the desire to excel. Our Bristol Chapter of the FFA is an active group consisting of 115 members--striving to live up to the ideals set forth in the Creed. Many of the boys have proven themselves as excellent judges in the various fields of agriculture. In October, Richard QuaganC54j represented Massachusetts at the NEPPCOEgg Judging Contest in Syracuse. New York. Robert Lindsey was a member of the State Livestockludging Team which traveled to Kansas City, and Peter Bryan and Hans Christensen went to Waterloo, Iowa with the State Dairy Products' Judging Team. The money used in helping to fi nance these trips was raised in part by the FFA members and in part through gene ro us donations from service organizations throughout the Country as a part of their youth program. During this school year. our boys operated a refreshment booth at the Farmers' Field Day in August and sponsored a tea room at the Fall Flower Showg the efforts of Mr. and Mrs. Hawkes in connec- tion with these ventures were responsible in a large part for their success. The Chapter offered a bronze bowl as the Sweepstakes Award at the Fall Flower Show this year and is planning for the Annual Aggie Night Banquet to be held in March--another of the Chapter's social func- tions. Bernard Richatdson, President Bristol Chapter, FFA
