Under the capable direction of our class advisor and with the help of all the other instructors and students. the pictures have been gathered-- the copy written and re-written--and the book assembled just under the deadline. It is the first time a class has attempted a large Yearbook of this type, and its staff hopes that the Class of' 53 has developed a tradition which will find a bigger and better TILLER published each year. Qttihitiw Enthusiastically we plunged into plans for our Senior activities: dances, the Flower Show. Judging Contests, the Prom, and Commencement Exercises. But we knew that this year was different: we cou1dn't escape the reminder that we were doing many of these things for the last time together. It was then that we realized how we had changed in just four years. Our thinking had been broadened and our ideals had crystalized. B.C. A. S. had changed, too. We had seen the erection of a new dairy barn, anew shop, and a new brooder house added to our large poultry plant. Freshmen to Seniors, all too soon--and now Alumni! ! ! But always we' 11 remember our days together at Bristol. Allen Haskell - ,r W -.a - - -. A lot of thoughts are being expressed aloud and with much vehemence. Naturally we' ll win!! Everybody is confident! We' re waiting for the slower boys to get their sneakers and uniforms on .... it won't be long now .... the coach gives one of us the balls and the O. No more confusion now .... the boys form two lines and preliminary practice begins .... we get warmed up and await the entr anc e of the visiting team. We keep one eye on the boys we are about to face as they practice beneath the basket. The buzzer sounds! Everybody gets off the court to sit on the sidelines and await the naming of the five boys who will start the game for us. Our Bristol Chapter of the FFA is an active group consisting of 115 members--striving to live up to the ideals set forth in the Creed. Many of the boys have proven themselves as excellent judges in the various fields of agriculture. In October, Richard QuaganC54j represented Massachusetts at the NEPPCOEgg Judging Contest in Syracuse. New York. Robert Lindsey was a member of the State Livestockludging Team which traveled to Kansas City, and Peter Bryan and Hans Christensen went to Waterloo, Iowa with the State Dairy Products' Judging Team. The money used in helping to fi nance these trips was raised in part by the FFA members and in part through gene ro us donations from service organizations throughout the Country as a part of their youth program. During this school year. our boys operated a refreshment booth at the Farmers' Field Day in August and sponsored a tea room at the Fall Flower Showg the efforts of Mr. and Mrs. Hawkes in connec- tion with these ventures were responsible in a large part for their success. The Chapter offered a bronze bowl as the Sweepstakes Award at the Fall Flower Show this year and is planning for the Annual Aggie Night Banquet to be held in March--another of the Chapter's social func- tions. Bernard Richatdson, President Bristol Chapter, FFA OUR FALL FLOWER SHOW Our Fall Flower Show has become one of the leading chrysanthemum shows in New England. Newspapers are full of publicity, bringing thousands of flower lovers every year. The throngs remark, More beauti- ful than ever! with each passing show. The flowers are grown by students, under the direction of Mr. Robinson, as summer projects. Besides the growing of the plant material, a great deal of preparation from many sources is necessary to perfect our show. Designing, planning, shop construction, lighting, and long hours of hard work from both the faculty and students go into its making. The night before the show. one wonders how it can possibly be finished on time. The re-echoing sounds of hammers. saws, and voices fill the hall, while stacks of cedars, great hills of sawdust and bagsof peat add to the organized confusion. However, we always do finish on time, because Bristol has a sure- FLOWER SHOW EXHIBITORS fire formula for success: school spirit, cooperation, and the desire to excel. A month later. the upper-classmen returned from their summer projects to mark the opening of another school year. ln our Erst year at Aggie, we had a general course in agriculture: we took part in judging con tests, public speaking contests. and various other s0cial events. The year soon passed, and w began our Hrst summer project period. Some of the class worked here on the school plant, while others were employed at home or on neighboring farms. At the beginning of our Sophomore year, we had to choose the course of study which we hoped would become our life's occupation. This was another eventful year. We remember particularly the Aggie Mght Play, the Flower Show in November. and state judging contests. After our summer projects, we returned as Juniors. Some of the highlights of our Junior year included a most successful Prom, square dance classes. and the building of a new dairy barn. As Seniors we remember the construction of the new shop building, the Christmas Dance. the Senior Prom, and the publishing of our yearbook. In looking back upon our four years, we have seen many chan ' buildings, and we ha ve added man y happy memories We hope we have made our School. W , 1 . I o'.
