The week culminated with Friday’s coronation and Parade. The return of alumnae queens from 1941 to 1974 helped students to commemorate Homecoming '75 in a special way. Activities for them included a tea and a night pre-game presentation. The parade was the largest ever, with the Sophomore Class capturing the prized 1st Place plaque. Second place went to the Junior Class with their Cut the Devils Combine. The FBLA took the Kooky” Division and the Cheerleaders Truck was ' ’ Best Decorated Vehicle. The week, tiring, frustrating, and hectic, took much effort and sacrifice by BHS students and sponsors, but the outstanding results were worth it. 16 Homecoming Week Was Full of Activities Tiger Tales Goes to Press After a number of years, TIGER TALES was renewed under the supervision of Mr. Steve Smith. In addition, the resource center is set up to provide non-technical training that relates to getting and keeping a job, and it also provides a placement service to graduating seniors. The students attend Fargo, usually, for two years, during which time they spend one-half day at Fargo and the other one-half day in academic classes at Brinkley. The automotive mechanics classes are involved in the study of all aspects of automobile repair including some body work, motor overhaul, and electrical work. Mr. Wayne Hasley, the instructor, has been at Fargo for six years and had several years' experience before that. Students enrolled in the building trades classes study the things involved in building construction. This includes work in plumbing, carpentry, electrical wiring, roofing, painting, and cabinet working. Mr. Rufus Alexander is the instructor and has had about twenty years' experience in the construction industry. Health Occupations classes deal with the jobs related to the different medical fields. Mrs. Geraldine Simpson, RN, spent about twenty years in nursing before starting the HOE classes at Fargo six years ago. Mrs. Simpson's classes are slightly different from the others, in that the students spend the first year in class studying the human body, diseases of the body, body systems, hospital procedures, medical professional ethics, medical office procedures, drugs and drug usage (and abuse), to mention a few. The second year the students work at some health related job here in Brinkley rather than attend class. Mrs. Simpson's aide this year is Rose Harris. Mr. Steve Thomas, the welding instructor and acting director of the Fargo School, came to Brinkley three years ago after getting his degree and several years' professional welding experience in welding in Mississippi. The welders at Fargo study both gas and electric arc welding and the use of the cutting torch. When these basic skills are mastered in all positions, the students may take up the more advanced techniques of MIG and TIG Welding. The resource center was set up as the Employability Training area. Mr. Larry Medford, the instructor, is involved in all aspects of job related study. These studies vary from such things as aid in studying for drivers test, to help with math or reading when these non-technical skills are necessary in the field for which the student is training, to producing audio-visual learning aids to help the other instructors teach some of the technical areas. The Fargo school is designed for a special student, that student that has already decided what he wants out of life and that does not necessarily include a college education. The students at Fargo get the basic technical training that will give them an advantage when they graduate and start to work. 36 OPPOSITE PAGE: BOTTOM RIGHT: FARGO STAFF AND INSTRUCTORS: 1st ROW: Mrs. G. FAR LEFT: Robert Moore catches touchdown pass in Helena game. LEFT: Rena Hicks shows his jumping ability as he outleaps the defender to catch the pass. The Tigers started the conference race with an impressive victory over the Marion Patriots in the season opener. This victory fired the Tigers up for the upcoming game with Helena. The game was won in a hard fought battle, and the Tigers left Helena with a 2-0 record. Next was Wynne. The Yellowjackets got on the scoreboard early in the game before the bad weather forced a packed stands to move to shelter. The Tigers were unable to recover and suffered their first loss of the season. The following week they faced Stuttgart. The Tigers couldn't put it together and suffered their second loss of the season. Stuttgart went on to win the AA state playoffs. Then, they met Blytheville. In '74. Blytheville defeated the Tigers 35-6. The Tigers were determined not to let this happen again. The Tigers trailed until the last half of the fourth quarter when the Tigers took the lead and held on to win the game. The next week was DeWitt. This was an easy victory for the Tigers. All points were scored in the first half and the second half was an it doesn't matter half. Neither team played their best. The next week the Tigers played Forrest City in what was considered to be the best game of the year. The Mustangs were rated 12th in the state, but the Tigers were able to lead the game until the third quarter at which time the Mustangs lied the game. The score remained tied until late in the fourth quarter when, with two minutes left, Forrest City got their second touchdown of the night to ice the victory. Brinkley went on to win the game against their arch rival, Clarendon. The last two games were against Marvell and Hughes. A victory over both teams was easily attained. The Tigers consequently finished with a 7 win and 3 loss season. Considering size, experience, injuries, availability of players, and the fact that the last two years the Tigers have played the toughest schedule ever, the Tigers had a great season. 105 Football Action 106 TIGER SENIORS: Wally Shaw. This is the kind of competition they get everyday. Let’s not forget the coaches. Coach Williams and Coach Milligan have worked hard to promote the track program here in Brinkley.
