I fi The Tiger Begins The many faces of the Tiger...are rcflccted in the many events of his school. 1967 may well have been one of his best years. for his face was an eager one. lie led .... and he followed, to a goal known only to his many personalities that portray his face to the world, He made his opinion known, and his year was recorded: he made his power known, and he rose to the top. He felt his personalities debate over his leadership, but never did he feel them deny its presence. The Tiger became spirited, and his name became known. The Tiger served his purpose, then rested, only to prepare for a fresher, a newer, perhaps a better year. 4 The T i gel' Tributes A proven loyalty to a school and a deep dedica- tion to education are qualities that students admire and respect in this man. Those devoted traits mean more in education than many classroom lessons. The Tiger is honored to have his leadership and loyalty reflected on its pages. With much respect and pride, We dedicate these pages to Mr. Leroy Southerland. it i'. Coach Porter and Keith French admire the District 6A championship trophy while Coach Schmidt and Gus Rusher look at the Plaque proclaiming Brinkley Tigerweek. The facial expressions indicate the Tigers' delight after having been se- lected the Number 1 Class A team in the state. The team clung to the top spot through the remaining nine games of the season. The Bengals' honorable mention All-District players were fbottom row, left to righty Eddie Hill, Dennis Tate, Len Gehring, Bill Oltmann, Max Woodfin, and Ronnie Morris: Crop row left to rightj Richard Greene, Gary Simpson, Junior Holiday, Joe Clifton, Donald Denton, and Forrest Lee. The Brinkley Tigers continued their winning ways during basketball season Although the Tigers faced the tough- est schedule in BHS history including such powers as Little Rock Hall High, Manila, Palestine, White Hall, and Rector, they . . . roared to a very fine 21-9 season record. Under the direction of Brinkley's proven and capable men tor, Dewey Snowden, the Bengals won many tough games and thrilled the fans throughout the season. Despite suffer- ing a loss to Lonoke in the finals of the District Tournament at Lonoke, the Tigers put forth their best in the State Tourney to defeat Charleston and Bay before falling at the hands of a tough Green Forest team. The Tigers did lose, but they had advanced to the semifinals, and they lost to the eventual state champions. The Tigers also placed two players, Keith French, the only senior starter, and Gus Rusher, a junior, on the All-State Team. Senior High Choir The Senior High Choir, under the direction of Mrs. Cravens Housley, gives students with vocal ability a chance to show off and use their talent. Choir is considered a class as well as an extra -curricular ac- tivity. Not only do the members of the choir get a credit for taking it, they also get the personal satisfaction that comes when their talent is displayed. Doris Parsley, Diane Williams, Debbie Medford, Linda Nowlin, and Brenda Caldwell are shown as they practice their music for a choral presentation. The choir pre sents several musical programs throughout the year for various occasions. I sisi C horaletts Talent, poise, and personality are the essentials of a Chorale tt. Composed of Melanie Wiliford, Karen Riffey, Jeri Sue Alexander, Debbie Hardwick, Linda Vanderburg, Audie Medford, Regina Bauer, Tere Ann Nelson, jean Ott, Janice White, and Geannie Flowers the Choraletts blend their melodic voices to form an everlasting memory. The business of preparing an annual was new to many on the staff, and how to begin was a puzzling problem. As the year progressed the staff and sponsors learned a lot about putting a yearbook together, and the '67 Tiger began to take shape. This year's annual contains all the pride and determination that the staff felt as they put it together. Most of the work on the yearbook was done late at night, and although this produced many blurry-eyed students, it also produced the '67 Tiger. 54 S tczjj' haul N ff Lee White is shown working hard as he labor- iously tries to write inter- esting copy for one ofthe final pages of the Tiger. Although hard work is the by-word at annual staff meetings, Judy Mid- kiff takes time out for a coke and is caught by our camera as she gallops back to the li- brary. Much time and effort are put into preparing an annual. The main con- sideration is deciding which pictures to use and what copy would fit best with the pictures. The Tiger sponsors, Miss Billie Lou Mabry and Miss Mary Jane Akel, with the help of Genny Farrell, are trying to de- cide which pictures to use in the yearbook. Perhaps the greatest loss came early in February. Mr. Charles B. Partee, Superintendent of Brinkley Schools for 25 years, announced his retirement. During his tenure Brinkley's school system has advanced in many ways. New construction, including the C. B. Partee Elementary School, along with advances in other areas, has given Mr. Partee and Brinkley statewide recognition. Mr. Partee has dedicated a total of 43 years to school work. This in itself is a commendable accomplishment. The Annual Staff wishes to acknowledge Mr. Partee 's dedication and express everyone's gratitude for that dedi- cation. Mr. A. M. Mr. Thompson cooperates with all departments and organizations of the school in de- veloping a good public relations program. Some of his other duties include planning the curriculum, handling serious discipline cases, and scheduling classes, teachers, and extra activities. Firm, fair, and patient, Mr. Thompson guides E the destiny of BHS. His perseverance is appreciated by students and teachers. The Junior High band is really a younger version of the Senior High band. For many of the students this is the first year they even knew that some of the instruments existed. For others, it's the first time they knew they had musical talent, and could play a song on a horn, or beat a cadence on a drum. Shown is one section ofthe Junior High band as they practice under the leadership of Mr. Barbarotto. I39 Providing needed services for the school is the re- sponsibility of these workers, commonly known as the staff. Whether the service consists of pro- viding hot meals at noon or keeping the facilities of BHS clean, the job falls in these capable hands In an October assembly, BHS custodian, Dan Solo- man, was presented a gift by the BHS student body in gratitude for the twenty-five years of service he has rendered the school. Even though the time of automation is growing nearer each day there are still certain things that only human hands can do. And the people be- hind these hands are the hinges of a modern school Workers society in which they form the means of keeping the school operating smoothly and in high gear. This staff goes unthanked most of the time, but they do their work in a responsible way. Virgil Monroe Bus Drivers Thomas Cremeen L. D. Faulkner Ed Reiter T. W. And this is the grave responsibility of the hus drivers of our school. Many times they must work overtime driving the teams, ious places. We thank them for their tireless efforts and faithfulness. l4I the band and other organizations to var- Credzt Where Credzt u I X, x xx Coach Schmidt Due Future Stars from Class of '67?
