J A Look Ahead The large silver bird glided smoothly into the Orlando Airport. The smooth landing was due to the expertise of our pilot Bruce Emken and co-pilot Pam Neys. It was my first real vacation in twenty years since I have graduated. Imagine me, Lynn Martin, in Florida! My intentions were to enjoy Disney World for three days, and Pam informed me that quite a few classmates worked in the Orlando area. I hailed a taxi and discovered my driver was Aven Friday. He told me he also drives a race car at Daytona Beach on weekends. As we raced through the streets of Orlando it wasn’t long before we heard the wail of a siren. John Bays-ingar pulled us over. He was familiar with Aven’s driving techniques but was surprised to see me in the back seat. He escorted us on to the fabulous Grand Rose Hotel owned by our classmate, Kim Rose. The hotel manager was John Kell. In the elevator I met another classmate, Dan Keyt, who is an Olive salesman serving the Orlando area. He told me about several other classmates. Dale Hanssen is Chief of Surgery at the Orlando Memorial Hospital but still has a few hives of bees for his own use. Jeff Blundy is a meteorologist on the local television station, Darren Colvin is installing and repairing telephones at Walt Disney World and Denise Porter owns and operates a night club in downtown Orlando. I met Susan Lemke, head housekeeper, as I walked to my suite. She pointed out that Angie Dunn had designed the interiors of all the rooms of the hotel. Some other great people working at this fabulous hotel include Stacey Penrod who is a waitress in the Rose Garden, Tonya Costa as Chef, and Nathan Mangus, maintenance manager. After a great breakfast prepared by Chef Tonya and served by Stacey, I boarded a Tram for Walt Disney World and immediately recognized the engineer, Troy Unkrich. He said that Vince Mills performs at the Country Bear Jamboree and not to miss the show. Also I should make sure not to miss Mickey and Minnie Mouse for underneath the costumes I would find Mark Richmond and Whitney Wineland. Also to my surprise the beautiful Snow White is really Dina Ralston. The crowds gathered for the Big Disney Parade. Leading the Disney Parade Band was none other than Joellyn Johnson looking great in her white rhinestone studded suit. I was amazed to find Anne-Marie Jury, who had flown in from Australia on her first return visit to the U.S., beside me watching the parade. She had just run into Jesse Staley who owns and manufactures stuffed toy characters and had just made a big sale to Disney World. It was wonderful to see everyone. My next destination was Kennedy Space Center. Boarding the bus I noticed that classmate Doug Oppe was driving. We enjoyed visiting about the good times at BHS. I arrived to find lift off for the Space Shuttle in fifteen minutes. The center was well guarded and as I ran through the gates to the Shuttle Launch Pad I was stopped by two military guards, Dave Copeland and Derek Gravitt. They took me over to meet Tina Peters and Susie Rachel, news reporters for Newsweek magazine. They were especially interested in this flight because three BHS classmates were on board. They were Mission specialists Erin Gravitt and Todd Rahn and School Teacher Amy Carlton. After much waiting, we in- 28
