First Runner-Up KARRIE FOSTER Second Runner-Up PAULA SEEINGFR 32 FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENTS George Navarro, 16, and Carlos Oses, 17, were Brimfield's foreign exchange students this year. George comes from Vicuna, Chile and has been living with the Berkely family. Carlos hails from Paraguay and resided with the Jimmy Hopkins family. Both young men were participants in the Youth For Understanding program. They are pictured here with (clockwise) Renee Fields, Pam Stenger, Kay Saurwein, and Wanda Harper. Brimfield has enjoyed having both Carlos and George and we wish them all the best in their future plans. 33 ACTIVITIES Once we were standing still in time. Chasing the fantasies that filled our minds. Dunce W ith Me was the theme of the 1976 Junior Prom. It was held at the Holiday Inn in East Peoria. Entertainment was provided by Delicious”. The dance ended with a splash when a member of the 1976 graduating class (who will remain nameless) decided on a dip in the pool just for kicks. Truly a prom to remember! UPPER RIGHT: Terry Doering and Mark Cinnamon were crowned Queen and King to Mark’s obvious surprise. ABOVE - LEFT TO RIGHT: Mike Carroll and his date Renee Fields enjoy the prom with Peggy Eden and Scot Furlong. OPPOSITE: Paul Hopkins may have found the food a little distasteful, but Joyce Walters seems to be enjoying herself. CLASS OF On June 4. 1976, the Brimfield High School Bicentennial class received their diplomas. It was a very emotional day - from tears to laughter - and sometimes both at the same time! Hal 7 I 1 . ji 1 i UPPER LEFT - LEFT TO RIGHT: Mary Maher, Claudia Tellez, Cathy Oppe, Mark Herrmann, and Barb Smith listen solemnly to a speaker. OPPOSITE - Kim DeRenzy isn’t usually this shy: he’s just nervous! 37 1976 Fall Concert Concerts were at their best this school year and the Fall Concert was no exception. Under the direction of Sherry Woessner, Chorus and Band gave a great performance, highlighted by a song from our Boys’ Chorus. It's over! Look! A photographer! Who Me? Never! 38 Left . . . Right . . . Left . . . 1976 CHRISTMAS COISCERT Santa - Don't make me laugh! This was the happiest Christmas ever for the Brimfield Music Dept, as grades K-6 and both bands and choirs joined together to present the spirit of Christmas in music. Young and old alike were entertained with everything from ''Glory to God” by the choirs to Here comes Santa Claus by the grade school children. Under the direction of Sherry Woessner and Debbie Austin it is easy to see why all concerts are a success. 39 FRESHMAN ATTENDANTS Tcri Stenger and Buddy Kceppel SOPHOMORE ATTENDANTS Kari Jones and Dick Lane JUNIOR ATTENDANTS Bev Hibben and Craig Tuttle KING AND QUEEN CANDIDATES Paula Stenger and Mark Cation Marcia Geitner and Phil Blackburn Terri Porter and Mike Swigert Sandy Stenger and Carlos Oses Lori Doring and Scot Furlong KING AND QUEEN 75-76 lacque Foulke and Greg Harmon 9 M -I2IHI Brimfield Grade School has been beautified this year by the An Club. The above painting was created by Mike Wildman and painted by the An Club. The painting below graces the wall of the library. It was drawn by Joe Dungan and also painted by members of the art class. Mrs. Bernadine Tucker is the Art Club sponsor. 42 1975-76 was a busy year for the '76 grade school graduates as was reported by Holly Burden, the class president. Joe Hanks reported on the fine work of the basketball team. Who knows what great things these young people will accomplish in the future? 44 4$ huh?” 46 Hi there! Want to ride our skateboard? You shouldn’t have done that. Photographer! SCIENCE FAIR Brimfield Junior High students again impressed their friends and families with their scientific talents. Over fifty students participated in the 1977 Science Fair held on March 18 and 19. Outstanding awards went to Tracey Nevells and David Southwood, Andy Farmer and Carl Templeman, K.C. Jones, Kurt Sollenberger, Janet Christy and Colleen Rozene, Clint Bottenberg and Gary Mack. He's lost in space. 47 SPRING CONCERT Mrs. Austin and Mrs. Woessner did an excellent job on this year's Spring Concert. The grade school and high school bands and choirs all played exceptionally well. Mr. Akins, student teacher from Bradley University, helped out both Mrs. Woessner and Mrs. Austin, and he also directed the high school band and choir for a song. The final end to the night was saying goodby to the seniors. SWEET EMOTION Riding in glass elevators and watching fire beating drummers helped add to the atmosphere of this year's Junior-Senior Prom, held in the elaborate Continental Regency Hotel. Dinner was served: first with a dish of fruit, followed by a salad. Then came the main course: filet mignon deliciously served with a baked potato and vegetable. The prom favors were brandy snifters with Sweet Emotion imprinted on them. king Queen Mike Suigert and Cheryl Luedtke 50 The prom lasted from 6:30 to midnight. The dancing commenced at 8:00 when Mike Swigert and Cheryl Luedtke, Prom King and Prom Queen, began dancing to the theme song Sweet Emotion. Music was supplied by The Otherside”, a band with a flair for the dramatic. Halfway through the evening the drummer set his sticks aflame and played a drum solo. As he played, the flames flipped and flickered around him. He played so fast that he even put out the fire. The band played on till midnight. After the last song was played, the couples left the hotel and went their separate ways. THE OTHERSIDE Commencement - a beginning. For fifty-two Brimfield seniors June 3, 1977, was the end of their high school years, and the beginning of the rest of their lives. These photos record some of the moments before and during those ceremonies that changed them from students to responsible citizens. Challenging words were said by Salutatorian Mike Harmon (top right) and Valedictorian Anthony Anto-nacci (opposite page, lower left). The Commencement speaker was Mr. Ray Mack: diplomas were given by Board President Waldo Hughan. During the program, perhaps these students remembered the trials of science projects or social studies exams. Maybe they thought of the fun of basketball games, dances, and squirt gun fights. Or perhaps their minds were on more serious things like Which hand do I shake Mr. Hughart's with? or When can I get out of this suit? It isn't always thoughts of what tomorrow holds, be it near or distant. Hopefully there was some cogitation of what the future holds for them and what directions their lives might take.
