Darrell Munton Reporter........Bob Savage Sentinel........Bob Ashley The Future Farmers of America started out the year with Mr. Jack Satorius as their new advisor. Some of their activities included sending representatives to both the State and National FFA Conventions, having a joint wiener roast and later, in March, a pot-luck supper with the FHA, sponsoring a sweetheart contest and scrap drive, playing basketball with local chapters, and holding a joint initiation with the Prince-ville Chapter. They also started a gilt ring this year. Some members participated in the Section FFA Fair. The chapter entered the Soil Judging Contest and received third place. Members entered state judging contests in grain, poultry, beef, and dairy. They entered a Duroc Judging Contest in January and Section V Production Awards Contest in February. F. H. A. The Future Homemakers of America followed the traditional program which included sending our newly elected president to camp at Lake Bloomington, working at the Old Settler's stand, having the FFA-FHA wiener roast, going caroling, preparing a Christmas basket for the Guardian Angel Orphanage, enjoying Daddy-Date Night, participating in the FHA-FFA Family Night, presenting the Style Show and attending the Spring Rally plus having speakers from many interesting fields. In October the Senior girls spent a very enjoyable three days in Chicago. The spaghetti supper and a sock dance were also added features to this year's program. The Girls' Athletic Association is a group of girls concerned not only with developing interest and skill in athletics, but also in achieving good sportsmanship. They meet for an hour after school once a week. Each meeting warrants 3 points for each member. To be eligible for a letter, each girl must earn 75 points. The GAA became very active in such things as sending one member to GAA Camp, sponsoring the Necking Dance, holding the first formal initiation of all members, sending a food basket at Thanksgiving to the South Side Mission, and having a chili supper.
