TOOH3S IINfl Wi Dedication We, the Class of “55”, dedicate this edition of the Spectator to our Superintendent, Mr. Lee E. Atwater. We shall not soon forget his help and guidance given us during the past four years. He served as one of our Senior Class Sponsors and has aided us in many ways. His interest, kindness, and cooperation is sincerely appreciated. KENNETH HAMILTON CHARLES HAYES FABIAN CAHILL BERTHA CHALLACOMBE President Secretary Board of Education We are grateful to the Board of Education which plays an important part in the lives of the students and the entire community. They devote much of their time and energy to the hiring of our teachers and the upkeep of our school buildings. HAROLD JOHNSON THOMAS MAHER ANDREW WHITTAKER 'M LEE E. ATWATER Superintendent Shirley Goetze has served as secretary at Brimfield School for the last three years. The faculty and students will long remember her untiring efforts to help. MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT Wise were the founders of our nation in their recognition of education as an essential to continuing democracy. Enlightenment is a foundation stone in the perpetuation of the American way of life. For many, this will be the last formal experience in education. For others, higher education is ahead. The sound judgment of seniors who remained to complete their high school course of study is certainly to be commended. The returns for this tenacity of purpose will be citizens and workers better prepared for participation in a competitive and challenging world. Each year high school graduates face a constantly changing world. A few years ago jobs were plentiful and readily acquired by those willing to work. During this period the value of education was discounted by many who were unable to see beyond the present to a time when competition for positions would again become the rule. It is the sincere hope of those privileged to assist you in your growth as individuals, that you take with you the result of experience which will assist you in living a richer, fuller, and a more successful life. My best wishes and sincere congratulations to the Class of 1955 for successful completion of an important twelve-year experience in their lives. LEE E. ATWATER. Charles was made honorary captain at the beginning of the school year. Rolland Ekena, a varsity squad member, was out half of the season because of illness. After that game, the batting improved, and the team did a better job. They played Laura, Williamsfield, and Elmwood twice. In the first game of the tournament, they met Princeville. Brim-field led all the way, but in the last inning. Princeville rallied to win by 6 to 5. Coach Mann has built the team around underclassmen lacking experience. The spring season proved to be better with the boys having more experience. The spring baseball team is made up of Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors. Those out for fall baseball were: M. HERE'S THE WAY A CATERPILLAR EXECUTIVE ANSWERED IT: To describe a good citizen in a few words is most difficult — much like trying to describe our great country in a few words. However, some qualifications of a good citizen certainly would be: • A fundamental belief in God. • A deep sense of honesty and integrity. • Moral character above reproach—the result of personal convictions rather than fear of public opinion. • An interest in one’s community coupled with a willingness to work long and hard for its betterment. • A true sense of value, recognizing that there is no such thing as something for nothing. Everything we achieve, everything we get, must be earned. • A love of the freedoms guaranteed by our Constitution and Bill of Rights, and a willingness to protect these freedoms. • A desire to search for and find the truth and not be swayed by the emotions of others. • A sense of duty when it comes to exercising our great American privilege of voting, based on thoughtful consideration of the issue or office involved—and the same sense of duty when jury, military or public office responsibilities should be met. It is difficult indeed to describe citizenship in a few words. I hope these thoughts will be helpful. _ X CATERPILLAR TRACTOR rfcctoyrcLfifa.
