The---53— - = SPECTATOR On behalf of the entire staff, I am proud to present this 1953 edition of the Spectator. We have endeavored to make this the biggest and best yearbook in the history of BHS. f hope that you will receive as much satisfaction from reading it as we have received from working on it. I would like to express my appreciation to Mrs. Mitchell for the tremendous job she has done as our faculty advisor of the Spectator. I would also like to thank Mr. Atwater and all the other members of the faculty for their co-operation in this project. Without their help, our task would have been impossible. I hope you will find this annual representative of Brim-field Unit School and the Senior Class of ’53. Read it—have fun! —Gary Lee Best t.s

DEDICATION Wc, the Senior Class of 1953 of Brimfield High, take great pride and pleasure in dedicating this edition of the Spectator to Henry DeVries, the custodian of our high school. His cooperation, personality, and sincere effort to do his best at all times have made our high school years more pleasant. Mr. DeVries is now completing his nineteenth year with the Brimfield School District. For the first two years, he worked in the “Community Building. When the new high school was constructed in 1936, he became its first and onlv custodian thus far. That clean and attractive building now stands as a tribute to his untiring efforts. Mr. DeVries has seen every home high school basketball game during the past seventeen years. I le enjoys basketball a great deal and has been one of Brimfield's most loyal fans. He has also seen all of the Brimfield High School plays since 1936 except one. He was ill and in the hospital this Near at the time of the Junior Class Play. He reports that the thing that bothered him most while he was in the hospital was the thought of missing that play. By the way, during the nineteen years Mr. DeVries has been with the Brimfield School District, he has not missed over twenty davs of work due to illness. EXCHANGE STATE BANK Of Brimfield Brimfield Illinois The Passing Years During my nineteen years of being associated with the High School, I have seen and heard many varied events. One of the most satisfying events is that of watching the students come and go. then later taking their positions in life. 1 have had laughs and sad moments, but in my opinion the laughter has far outweighed the sadder moments. When the halls ring with honest and whole-hearted laughter, then my heart is happy. My sincere wish is to sec each and every student become a success in life and I hope that in my humble way, I may be of some help.” —Henry During the years wc have been in school, Mr. DeVries has shown a sincere interest in our affairs. He has helped us in every wav possible to make our school activities more successful. For these reasons, the Senior Class decided, by a unanimous vote, to dedicate this 1953 Spectator to our friend, Hcnrv DeVries. I Iknry DeVries
