'x I xl I Q- 41 J lug ii CLASS PROPHEC Y may I The year IS 1966 The place IS Brrlhant The trme IS the future My name rs Brll Hayes I m a detectrve Last week my work took me near the Memorral School so naturally I stopped to renew old acquarntances The guard statroned at the Iron fence around the school was an old school pal of mrne Elmer Czoka He told me that they are havrng a lo of trouble tn the school He sard that they are makrng the krds take off the1r shoes before marchrng In I must say that thrs really floored me I Just couldn t wart to meet the new Superrntendent When I saw who rt was I nearly had a stroke There seated wrth hrs ear glued agarnst the publrc address system was Ross Goolsby He greeted me wrth a Snrcker Very good candy bar I sald but I really couldn t eat rt He sard Go ahead I took rt from one of the students th1s mornmg before I had htm charned rn the cafeterra He told me that the boy s name was Robert Lawyer Mr Goolsby sard that he was supposed to have been graduated wrth the class of 56 but he was havrng a lrttle head trouble I srgned papers statrng that I was travehng at my own r1sk the school secretary Joan Bucey gave me a v1s1tor s slrp When the noon bell rang I thoughtl d had rt but to my surprrse each class l1ned up and chartreuse pants fuchsra shuts and red socks I found out later that these unrforms were tal lored by Kay Kackley and Sylvra Verhovrc Enterrng the cafeterra I found that Thelma Hand and V1v1an Wrck were chref sloppers Jean Hanhn was servrng the teachers Accompanymg her were two armed guards Ray Whaley and Wayne Srmmons I saw that the new management had an added attractron Ahce Weber was the crgarette grrl Srnce thrs just happened to be Wednesday they were gorng to have therr regular noon movre In the audrtorrum admrssron was one candy bar or pack of chewrng gum Thrs was collected by Vera Blankenshrp and she was assrsted by Floyd Elhs who ate up most of the profrt Popcorn was sold by Lrnda Crow Morgan She was really flyrng around In there The ftrst personl notrced rn the movre was Jeannene Walters who was domg a bubble dance then on the screen bounded Jrm Watson dressed lrke a porcuptne Well let me tell you that show surely ended wrth a bang' At noon after classes resumed I passed the Industrral Arts Room and could hear them srngrng Cham Gang led by Nokomas Matthews Jlm Harmon had taken over Mr Kull s Job 26 7 I P- If 51 1, R h ' I ' I ' I ' as . . . . . . ,, , , I . 1, Q marched down the hall in perfect order. fi gettrng hrs tre caught rn the drrll press Looking rn on math class I saw that Joy Fraley was the teacher and from what I saw belreve ou me she had the rrght angle for the teaching of the correct frgures Today being girls gym dayl Just thoughtl would have a lrttlc peek To my amazementl saw Alfred Welsch dressed rn a whrte gym surt havrng the trme of hrs life Stopping to talk to me he sard that he had frnally realized hrs lrfe s ambrtron to teach grrls physical education I asked hrm how he handled rt all by himself and he told me he had an HSSISIEIHI Gerald Green Going toward the band room I could hear someone blowing hrs horn and I knew that could only mean one thing that the band director was Brll Moore I could hear lrrm screaming Make those blue notes bluer and I saw Ross Watson runnrng around the room wrth a can of hlue parnt smearing rt around like crazy Delbert Homol was measurrng some majorettes for new uniforms and Brll Carver was teach rng the other ones how to strut I noticed that Abbie George was taking her drrvers trarnrng students out They no longer used a car but were berng taught to prlot helicopters Returning to the office 1 ran into Davrd Barr and Marvrn Goddard the county health doc tor and lrrs assistant They were tryrng to get rn touch wrth the truant offrcer Marlene Fellows but she was out of town attending a convention I asked Mr Goolsby about some of my old classmates whom I hadn t seen He told me that Eddie Burrrs had gotten marrred and was at home keeping the kids whrle hrs wrfe worked He also told me that Tom Gardner had recerved a frve year scholarshrp to the State Pen I found out that Alfred Hunt had gone to college and was now a mrnrster Alma Kirkpatrick had signed up wrth the Globe Trotters The person who surprrsed me most of all was Raymond Dehnart who had struck orl whrle drggrng a well on hrs farm and rs now a mrllronarre Hrs private secretary rs Dorothy McGahan and hrs Jet prlot rs Shrrley John son As I was leavingl collided with Shirley Carpenter and Sondra Linn who were dashing madly down the hall They told me that they were the custodians.
