Foreword NOT TWILIGHT, BUT DAWN These are the words that make up our class motto. These words hold a much deeper meaning than we, the Seniors could ever hope to express. As we leave the halls of Brighton High for the last time, we must remember that this is not the end, but only the beginning. Each Senior is now on the first step of the stairway to the future. Now as we each go our own way, we leave our past behind in this memorable Storybook. LINDA LEAVENS Editor 2 Dedication We, the Seniors of 67, wish to dedicate our yearbook, Random Echoes, to an outstanding couple who have helped us in our last years of school. Though Mr. and Mrs. Price have only been with us for 2 years, their spirit and loyalty to the students and the school have aided us in becoming better citizens. Now, as we are ready to leave Brighton for the last time, we dedicate our book of memories to them. Tribute We would like to pay a tribute to our faculty who have shown us guidance, friendship, and understanding in our last year at Brighton. Because of your aid and consideration, we now find it easier to face the world of tomorrow. Through our yearbook, Random Echoes, we wish to express our deep appreciation and sincere thanks for all you have done for us. May God bless and keep you always. 4 MR. R. CURRIER, Supt. MR. C. As the basketball season comes to a close, the Bearcats can look back with a smile knowing that they showed the people in Island Pond and surrounding areas that Brighton has had a basketball team of which it can be proud. The won-lost record, after the 18-game schedule, stood at 13-5 as the Cats won 8 games in a row. In the final N.E.C. Tourney, the Cats fell to Canaan by 8 points but came back to whip Barton by 20. In the Class S play-offs. Brighton came through with flying colors defeating Wells River by 9 points to win a chance at the Eastern Division Championship. As a member of the team I can say that the boys played together very well and showed a lot of spirit, as well as sportsmanship. Earl Lefebvre came in as the leading scorer of our team with an average of 18 points. Raymond Gaboriault and myself, Ted Miller, came in with 15 points for an average. The Cats owe a lot of gratitude and appreciation to our coach, Mr. Rod Willard, who helped the team all the way. Without his help, we all know we couldn't have done what we did. Willard, Coach. i The girl's basketball team has had a fairly good season this year. We lost to Canaan at the be ginning of the season but then came back for nine straight wins. Our greatest victory was January 31, when we defeated Canaan by one point with a score of 26 to 25. That night we were out to get them and played one of our best games. All of the girls were hustling, which surprised Mr. Willard. Jackie's rebounding and great defensive work helped us out tremendously. After defeating Canaan, we had two away games left, which were with Craftsbury and Newport Center. We beat Craftsbury, but Newport Center was another story with a score of 35 to 31 in their favor. The Cheerleaders and townspeople have been a great morale booster at our games this year. We really felt like playing ball when they were all cheering for us. I'm sure all the girls agree that we could not possibly have done as well as we did without the instruction and guidance of our coach, Mr. Rod Willard. Senior Stars 25 Cheerleaders FRONT: C. Our Chaperones Senior Mates? 36 37 38 Sherry Betty Linda Billy Jessie Betty M. 39 Class History In the early part of September, 1964, we find 21 ambitious Freshmen climbing the stairs of Brighton High for the first time. We elected Linda Leavens, President, Teddy Miller, Vice - President, Donna Wallace, Secretary, and Betty Goupee, Treasurer. Through the year, we found ourselves engaged in money-making schemes, such as dances and food sales. Our class presented a one-act play entitled. The Ghost Wore White , which took second prize. In our Sophomore year, we had only 18 members. We find missing from our class Bonnie McBride, David Foy, Andre Desbiens, and Raymond Boutin. Only one member, Roland Barney, joined our class. This year Ted Miller was elected President, Billy Haw- kins, Vice-President. Betty Moulton, Secretary, and Bruce McRae, Treasurer. On Octo- ber 25 we held a Sophomore Hop at the Town Hall. The hall was decorated in orange and black crepe paper, and the music was provided by the 4-M's. Our Junior year found us with an exchange of students. We lost Beverly Brown and gained Sherry Twofoot. This year we find our 18 members engaged in many money- making affairs. Aside from dances and fudge sales, we also had many car washes, which contributed greatly to our treasury. Our only big event this year was the Junior Prom. The hall was gaily decorated in spring pastels of green, blue, yellow, and pink. We chose for our theme, Over the Rainbow , and music was provided by Reg Seguin and his band. Our final year at Brighton finds us with 17 members. We were sad to lose a friend and classmate, Cynthia Moffett. This year the mighty Seniors are still engaged in money- making activities. The final part of our High School Days finds the Seniors making the usual graduation preparations. 40 Class Poem Betty Goupee wants to travel the world o'er Her favorite ambition is to join the Peace Corps Her marks are excellent--they show that she's smart We wish her the best from the bottom of our hearts. Linda Leavens has learned everything in the books With a great personality as well as good looks For being just great she needs no rehearsing Her future includes the profession of nursing. Donna Wallace intends to go on to college She's studied real hard and gained lots of knowledge Her spirit and hard work will take her ahead She’s sure to succeed in teaching Phys. Ed. Earl Lefebvre is a real swell guy His classmates all like him and this explains why His humor is great and his hair is quite wavy We wish him success with life in the Navy. Elton Ovitt will surely go far Whether it's singing or playing guitar After graduation his choice will be To follow his brother and work for G. E. Betty Moulton enjoys good music and singing In amateur contests she usually is winning Her friendly attitude as well as her smile Will brighten some office up in a while. Teddy Miller is our favorite drummer He practices during the winter and summer He’s well-liked by all--so let us rejoice. In serving his country, the Navy's his choice. Roland Barney is next on the scene His secret ambition is to be a Marine He likes one girl and frequently smokes And he gets a big bang out of telling us jokes. Raymond Rodrigue will’stick to his farming He's a pest at times, but really quite charming As long as high school is over and done He figures he's going to get into some fun. Jocelyne Cotnoir, now that high school is done Says a nurse is what she would like to become She's very neat, she's never been messy And her Senior classmates will ne'er forget Jessie. Barbara Worth, with teachers has collided For her future profession, she's still undecided But wherever you go and whatever you do Barb may only success and good luck follow you. Mechanics is Billy Hawkins’ choice With a broken-down tailpipe making a noise If sparks start flying through the air, Never fear for Billy's there. Connecticut seems like a nice place to stay And Jackie Goulet says she'll go there some day Nursing is what she intends to do With needles and pins and operations, too. Tim Henry says music is the best thing yet He ought to know--he plays the clarinet But if music leaves him high and dry He'll join the Air Force and learn to fly. Bruce McRae loves music, too In fact, that's what he wants to do In the end it will all seem worth the work He's Brighton's version of another A1 Hirt. Gloria Lumbra is full of knowledge And it's a good thing--she's going to college Wherever you go and whatever you do May good luck and success follow you through. Sherry Twofoot's been with us for only two years We've shared many laughs and a few little tears We’ll miss her a lot when she has to go And her career in nursing will turn out well, we know. 42 SENIORSCOPE NAME KNOWN BY NICKNAME SAYING Roland Oldest Senior Butchie Heba!! Rats! 43 Prophecy As we, the Seniors of '67, leave Brighton High, we wonder what our future will bring or where the road to success may lead us. As we look into our crystal ball, at the year 1980, the following facts come into focus. ''Jessie is happily caring for her husband and their four children. Her spare time is spent nursing at the O.C.M. Hospital. Roland is a hard-working mechanic who spends his evenings with his family on their farm. Billy has now graduated from his bicycle to a snappy motor bike. Jackie , now happily married, lives on her estate at Paradise Island with her husband and their ten children. Ray , after many years of frustrating search, has finally dug up his birth certificate. (Is this possible!!!) Gloria is a professional paper girl on Fifth Avenue. Tim , who is a professional drag strip driver at the Indiannapolis Raceway, still takes time for a few special clarinet solos. Donna is now a champion Road Runner for the U. S. Olympic Team. Ted , who is a professional drummer on Sunset Strip, spends his vacations as a life guard at a Wai-Ki- Ki Beach. Betty G. is now successfully engaged in her duties with the Peace Corps in a well-known African jungle. Elton is a full-fledged square dance caller at the Copa Cabana. Linda is married to a lawyer, who stays busy keeping his devilish wife out of trouble. Her favorite pastime is drag racing. Earl is the successful manager of the Hawaiian Bunny Club, and a professional beachcomber in his hours away from the club. Barb , after many years of constant jabbering, has finally run down her battery. Sherry , now happily (?) married, has finally found a successful way to prepare beans and sauerkraut for her family of eight. Bruce is the most successful trumpet player on the moon. Could this possibly be because he is the only habitant??? Betty M. has just completed her premiere at Carnegie Hall, where she sang My Uncle Used to Love Me but She Died. 44 AUiMKI 45 PHOTO NOT AVAILABLE A very special thanks is extended to Mr. Mrs. Maynard Osborne, who have carried Brighton stu- dents to and from school and various activities for many years. These people are alumni of Brighton and show an everlasting school spirit through their many devoted years of service. There is no possible way that we can show our full appreciation to this couple, but we do extend our sincere thanks. May God bless you both. MR. MRS. OSBORNE Special Thanks It can be truly said that Pop” King has done more for the Brighton Students than any other one person. He has contributed greatly to the success of basketball through the years and has spent much time and effort promoting spirit through the town as well as the school. His patience, understanding, and consideration will never be forgotten. The name Pop King will be an everlasting name in the history of Brigh- ton's basketball. 46 Pop King Brighton Bearcats KNEELING - Left to Right: P. Dubois. D. Cameron. C. Johnson, R.
