Text from Pages 1 - 72 of the 1963 volume:

Foreword The 1963 edition of Random Echoes represents the close of another page of history in the life of Brighton High School. The publication of this yearbook has been a challenge to all of us. But a challenge of greater magnitude lies before the members of our class--the challenge of higher learning, adventure, and new worlds to con- quer. We hope you will cherish this yearbook as an aid to recalling happy mo- ments of past school days. Look closely at our past for gone are the yester- days, but the sun dawns on a new tomorrow. Cecilia A. Coe EDITOR Dedication The Senior Class of 1963 proudly dedicates its yearbook, Random Echoes, to Alex Pop King. Always more than willing to lend a helping hand, Pop has been our guide, giving us advice and confidence in ourselves. It is truly hard to find the words to express how grateful we are for his unselfish and time-consuming efforts in our behalf. In Memoriam DEXTER ERWIN APPLEBEE The class of 1963 deeply regrets the loss of their fellow classmate and friend, Dexter E. Applebee, in the summer of 1960. Dexter's teasing smile and friendly manner seemed to brighten every corner of his friends' hearts. Although his life was brief, it was a well-spent and happy one. In school he was a part of the J. V. basketball team, the safety patrol and had a fine scholastic record. Some of his other interests in- cluded having a paper route, horseback riding and water skiing. We, who will never forget his ever-present smile, dedicate this page in the midst of his friends, in the hearts of his classmates, as a memoriam to a true friend. Tribute We, the Senior Class of 1963, want to give our sincere thanks to the person tias not only been a conscientious math and science teacher, but also our class sor, friend, and on some occasions, mediator; to one who for the past two years has worked toward educational improvements along with all the other fac- ulty members at Brighton. We want to wish much success and future happiness to our own - Mr. Gilbert Esty. 7 ttm i  — iff t r“ii ■ ' i i II 1 ii i 1 1 h n 1 1 ii i 1 1 r ii T 1 1 ii 1 1 1 ii 1 1 1 Seniors “Be Americans. Stevenson N.E.C. TOURNAMENT BRIGHTON vs. NORTH TROY (THE NEWPORT DAILY EXPRESS by Mai Boright) In a game that left each and every spectator in the overflow crowd as limp as a wet sock, the Brighton High School Bearcats won the Northeast Conference Tourna- ment championship with a heart- pounging 55-54 win over the North Troy Trojans in four overtime pe- riods, not one, but four, mind you, at Derby Academy gym Saturday night. With the hysterical, wildly cheering crowd as a background, the stout-hearted Bearcats had to come from behind four different times to tie the contest and stay alive for the extra periods. It looked as if the classic con- test between the two determined hoop teams might go on forever until Lefebvre dropped his bomb shell to end the drama.
