Editor-------------Wayne Meredith Ass't. Editor------Patricia Quinn Business Mgrs.-----Barbara Osborne Carol Lanpher Yearbook Advisor---Mrs. Paul Lucas We are very happy to dedicate our yearbook to Alex Pop King i n recognition o f his unceasing interest and tireless devotion to the activities of the students of Brighton. With his friendly advice and guidance, Pop has built up our school spirit and our confidence in ourselves. As athletic coach he has developed many champions, but, in the eyes of those who gained from this association, Pop is the champ of them all. Our memories of Pop will never fade. The class of 61 would like to express its appreciation to Mrs. Foss for all that she has done for us during the past three years. She has furnished us with the necessary iniative and inspiration t o make our high school years more fruitful. To her we owe our eternal gratitude. We would like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation to Mrs. Lucas. Since coming to Brighton, Mrs. Lucas has taken an active interest in our class and has freely given o f her time t o help and guide us in making this yearbook possible. To her we extend a sincere thank you. 3rclm Lnistra ti on 3 acu Superintendent We have enjoyed observing you as you have pro- gressed through the school system during the past twelve years. At the turn of the decade, it was almost poss- ible to detect a nationwide sigh of relief. The sac- rifices, heartaches, and burdensome problems of the forties were behind us. We learned a great deal from the Korean incident. You have had an opportunity to study during the comparative tranquillity in the fif- ties. No one can say what the future will bring but we hope Brighton High has helped you in such a way that you can successfully meet the challenges of the sixties. This will be an important decade for you. May you all have a happy and prosperous future Principal It is my earnest hope that your past four years at Brighton have been both happy and successful ones for you. If they have, you can look forward to the future with confidence in the knowledge that in these years you have greatly increased your emotional and mental matur- ity and have the academic background necessary for your future work, whether it be on the job or in schools of higher learning. I hope that you will always remember your days at Brighton High with the fondness and affection that we all feel toward you. Yours has been an excellent class, both academically and in terms of your contributions to the devolopment and progress of our school We hope that in the time to come you will retain your contact with the school and come back to see us often. 12421SS N5 cc cc HONOR ROLL X aX (2 3,% jc! or i atx lia v ,§) ciXnXal or i a n 1u)xjiv XL £ (C ei£ A XXXapaKal XLtXe $Scittt£Tsz ------ x U SXat -------------- triawAm — ------ — Xbx fus LWXXx I ------- H o-xj3 SXaXe -------- XbaXXori S raxj ---------- ------- VXXjjtfttaX)? It was a class of twenty-six members: Thomas Barnes, Delwyn Brooks, Gerry Cahill, Bruce Chesney, Gary Crowe, Ronald Curtis, Mary Douglas, Sharon Fagan, Anthony Goupee, Dale Lamere,Irish McGill, Wayne Meredith, Barbara Osborne, Elwin Paye, Robert Porter, Patricia Quinn, Arthur Schmidt, Claudia Seguin,Diane Worth, David Worth,Dalton Gray,David Applebee,Carol Lanpher, Richard Perry,Susan Stafford, and Judy Sloan (the last six having come to Brighton from St. Mary's Academy). On January 6, 1958, we lost David Worth, leaving us with twenty-five members. Our freshman class officers were as follows: President, Claudia Seguinj Vice- President, Elwin Paye; Secretary, Marilyn DuboisjTreasurer, Barbara Osborne. Our initiation was a big event with the class gathering at the town square in the morning, the ac- tual initiation in the afternoon, with the freshmen being guests at the Sophomore Hop in the evening. Who will ever forget Richard Perry cuddling Gerry Cahill while singing Rock-a-bye-Baby and Barbara Osborne giving Elwin Paye ten reasons why she'd like to go out with him? During the year we had many successful fudge sales and record hops. The first project our Sophomore year was our Sopho- more Hop, held on September 26. We made $21.59. We also earned money by selling stationery and by having several fudge sales and record hops. At the end of the year we had a total of $277.15 in our treasury. Ms. year was es- pecially exciting for us because we received our class rings Incidentally the Class of '61 has the last class ring—Brighton now has a school ring Between March and December of '58 David Applebee, Sharon Fagan, Delwyn Brooks, and Richard Perry left the class. We gained Rod- ney Provoncha, Marilyn Dubois, and Sandra Paradis. Offi- cers for our Sophomore year were: President - Barbara Osborne; Vice-President - David Applebee; Secretary - Patricia Quinn; Treasurer - Sandra Paradis; Student Council Representatives - Irish McGill and Dale Lamere. Our Junior year began with twenty-four members in the class, as we had lost Susan Stafford, Sharon Fagan, Marilyn Dubois, and Arthur Schmidt, and had gained Janet Tillotson. Later we lost Judy Sloan and Mary Douglas. Officers for the junior year were President - Anthony Goupee; Vice-President - Diane Worth; Secretary - Bar- bara Osborne; Treasurer - Sandra Paradis; Student Council Representatives - Claudia Seguin, Dale Lamere, and Gary Crowe. Our paper drive and Junior Prom were two success- ful projects this year. Before our Senior year began, we had lost Irish Mc- Gill and Peter Castonguay, leaving us with the twenty pre- sent members of our class. Officers elected are as follows; President - Claudia Seguinj Vice-President - Carol Lanpher; Secretary - Diane Worth;Treasurer - Richard Lougeej Student Council Representative - Gary Crowe, Anthony Goupee, and Dale Lamere This has been a very busy year for us with a paper drive and a successful car wash in the fall (and it wasn't just cars that got washedl), a baked bean supper in November, and the Senior Ball in April. The project that has required the most time is our Senior Yearbook, which we hope is a success. At the annual alumni banquet of 1970, a group of the Class of '61 had congregated and were discussing their old days at B.K.S. During the course of the dis- cussion, Barbara Osborne, nurse and secretary to the eminent Boston dentist, Wayne Meredith, hit upon the idea of having a class reunion. Claudia Seguin, who had become head nurse at the Walter Reed Army Hospital, agreed whole-heartedly with the suggestion. Dale Lamere, who had always loved cars and was now a wealthy dragstrip owner in Florida after his term in the Air Force, said he was sure that he could jump into his hot rod and scare up a few of the old classmates. Tory Goupee, who is the head of the science and math depart- ment at Brighton's new school, and Wayne Meredith then joined the group and were also enthusiastic about the idea. The group then decided it would be a tremoundous undertaking so they set a tentative date of June,1971, for the reunion. This would give them the necessary time to contact the other classmates. Each of the five chose three former classmates to contact. Claudia first wrote to Patty Quinn, a secretary for the Internal Revenue Department who was, at the time the letter arrived, counting $10,000 in pennies which had been sent as a protest against a tax raise. She then drove to Stjohnsbry to see Bruce Chesney, the industrial arts teacher at the trade school. When she walked into the school room, Bruce was preparing an exam to make them settle down and study. Upon hearing of the reunion, Bruce was again in good spirits, and the children were spared the exam. During this time Diane Worth had come home on va- cation from the trying duties of being a nurse at Con- cord Hospital, so Claudia went to see her at her house. YJhile they were talking, Diane asked Claudia how she had happened to pick Walter Reed for nursing. Claudia replied in her usual dry manner that it was really quite easy to figure out that she merely had been at- tracted by the large number of helpless men there. 00 VO CM sj CM Meanwhile, Barbara had been carrying on her search for Janet Tillotson, Sandra Paradis, and Ronnie Curtis. Barbara first wrote to Sandy, who is now happily married to Kelvin, a successful mechanic in Detroit. When she received a reply from Sandy, she learned that she had just come out of the hospital the day before and was the mother of adorable twins. Barbara had the phone number of Colonel and Mrs. Curtis, who were stationed at Westover Air Force Base. Mrs. Curtis, nee Joanne Bailey, answered the phone and said that Ronnie was teaching aeronautics at the moment but would be home at 6 o'clock. However, she said there would be no need to call back because she would see that Ronnie attended the banquet. Barbara surely knew then who was the boss of the family I With the aid of two dozen well-placed letters, she finally found the most sought-after but unattainable girl in Hollywood, J anet Tillotson. At the time, J an was va- cationing in northern India where she was learning such Indian arts as snake charming, climbing stiff unattached ropes, walking on beds of hot coals, etc. Dale found his contacts quite easily. He merely had to pick up the paper, and he could be quite sure that they would be in it. Dalton Gray had become world renown because of his advanced airplane and rocket designs which have given the United States a wide lead over Russia in the space race. Dick had recently appeared on the front page of every newspaper in the country. Dick hadn't changed much from the former class treasurer that used to yell for class dues—only now he was demanding a larger slice of the national budget for his Strategic Air Command. Gary Crowe, Dale found, was quite hard to locate, not because he was obscure, but because he was always hopping all over the world photographing famous people and places. He was well known for his ability to take flattering photographs of even the ugliest people. Tony had also been working arduously to find his contacts. He found Elwin Paye at Harvard as Profes- sor of English where he, being a staunch Republican, was considered Harvard's last hope. If the admin- istration in Washington were to take another Harvard professor, the University would have to close. Tony eventually found Tommy, a hard-working, deep-sea diver for the Seagull Salvage Company, on his ship off the Newfoundland Coast where he was preparing to raise the Titanic. Gerry Ann Cahill Was in Alaska where she taught school, and it was found that she spent her spare time running behind her dog team, expending energy so she could sit calmly in her classroom. Wayne, meanwhile, had contacted Carol Lanpher, Rodney Provoncha, and Robert Porter. Wayne went to the Porter farm to see Robert, a graduate of Randolph, who had purchased his uncle's farm. Robert was busy perfecting an entirely new type of meat because of the housewife's demand for a dif- ferent, tastier, cheaper meat. This new meat on the market would eventually make him a millionaire. Wayne then wrote Carol Lanpher, private secretary to the president of Ford Motor Company. In her spare time, she was gaining fame as the part-time designer of some very stunning gowns. Her father, once a Mer- cury owner, now drives a new Lincoln Continental. Rodney Provoncha, however, was a real problem be- cause no one had heard from him for years. Wayne finally wrote to Dick Lougee who had F. B. I. connec- tions and asked if he would help locate Rodney. He eventually found Rodney working on a top secret mis- sion as an undercover agent for the F. B. I. Rodney was the last member of the class of '61 to be con- tacted. He, like all the others, was enthusiastic about the reunion. With all the members of the class of '61 located, the reunion date was set at June 16, 1971, the day on which we had graduated ten years earlier. cu p, oem Be it French or English or science or math. There are no obstacles in this fellow's path. And Tony Goupee with his thirst for knowledge. Will be a welcome addition to any college. First of our class to take THE step. Is Sandy Paradis who's really hep. With many a cheer she has rallied the crowd. And groom-to-be Mel should be quite proud. 00 IT) CN vj Heart, diamond, club, or spade. It doesn't matter what is played. This future fanner. Porter by name. Will be lucky in life, whatever the game. Diane, our charmer, plans to be a nurse. And the worries of her patients she'll quickly disperse. She'll jab with the needle and peddle her pills And impress the young doctors with all her skills. With rockets and missiles all the rage today, We predict a great future for Dalton Gray, When from the moon this future astronaut calls, Keep in mind he went forth from Brighton's halls. Carol is tiny, Carol is neat. And Carol's fashions are hard to beat. To beauty school she intends to go. And then she'll be stylish from head to toe. Known as Patricia when she's in dutch. Is our own Patty who's liked very much. When we're down in the dumps and feeling blue, Patty's humor always pulls us through. Rodney's stopped by neither rain nor snow, Or even by the weather when it's 30 below. Over the road from Morgan he does fly, Good practice for the Air Force when he leaves Brighton High. Gerry, the pixie-like member of our class. Is quick on the dribble, quick on the pass. She's popular with all, she's athletically inclined; Another to match her we'd not easily find. Janet, the latest addition to our class. Is an all-round girl who's hard to surpass. With a mind quick to grasp and personality too, She's bound to be a hit at Connecticut U. Congenial Curtis, Ronnie by name. Has chosen the Air Force for his climb to fame. Around the Bailey home he can always be found. And his rating with Joanne is considered quite sound. Petite and winsome is our Osborne lass. What she lacks in stature she makes up for with class. She's stylish, she's popular---intelligent, too. With all she's endowed with, what can't she doI Always active is our classmate Bruce, Who loves to hunt deer, rabbit, and moose. A hard worker whose grades are high. He should have no trouble in getting by. Dick is nimble, Dick is quick. And with a basketball he sure does click. Now look out Wilt, and look out Bob, For here's a champ who may snare your jobI Good-natured Tom is a nonchalant guy, A great hand with the girls---who say he's not shyl Whenever there's work that must be done, You can always be sure that Tom's on the run I For all-around service that's much above par Claudia, our president, deserves a gold star. When talent and beauty and brains do combine. What else can a person do but shine? Gary Crowe, our Mr. I.G.A. Handles the business in a very smooth way. He courts the boss' daughter--now, he's no jerk. Soon he'll be the boss, and Dave, the clerkl Stu-C nember Dale has served us well, And in all sports our opponents he did quell. The Adonis of the class with his shiny black curls. Is It any wonder he's chased by the girlsI Elwin Paye, another top scholar. Will forsake the farm for a nice white collar English is his subject, teaching is his goal. We're sure he'll make the grade in his chosen r Le. Our class musician deserves a good note. For without Wayne this yearbook would never have been wrote. Industrious and capable, always willing to serve. May he have the good fortune he so richly deserves. From Tommie to Barbara— I am willing you this red blinker-light to let the trailer truck drivers know that you are on the road so that they won't hit you. From Tony to Robert— Since your collection of guns is rather one sided I'll give you this cannon to help round out your collection. From Dalton to Rodney— I will to you a bottle of iip pills to help keep you awake on those Monday mornings. NDERC LA SS 1EN or s S o pk O more S Fr es ry m eh 7 GroJeS 3« CVi FIRST ROW: M. Houle, D.
