Text from Pages 1 - 146 of the 1960 volume:

I I of Random Echoes their record of four memorable years. 1 I Dedication The Senior Class of I960 wishes to dedicate its yearbook. Random Echoes, to Mrs. Farman. Since she has returned to teaching, she has always been more than willing to lend a helping hand. We will always remember her friendly, cheerful manner and also her untiring efforts to do her best. We would like to thank Mrs. Farman most sincerely for her never ending patience. We hope she will remain for many years to help enrich the school days of future students at Brighton High. Tribute We extend our sincere appreciation and gratitude to Mr. Joe” Gagnon for his services rendered to us when we were struggling to put on a dance. Although it was nor required, he was always willing to make our heavy load lighter. We will never forget what Joe has done for us. panew€£l 'THateaye, SUPERINTENDENT’S FAREWELL ADDRESS We wish to thank the members of the Class of I960 for your contributions to the welfare of the school during your stay in Brighton High. Some of you may be interested in teaching as a career. We must have good schools, in these crit- ical days, and good schools depend on good teachers. The best teachers are first the best students and we can recommend only the best students to teacher education colleges. We will do our best to help you find your place in society so please do not hesitate to call upon us now or at any time in the future. We wish you the best of happiness and success in your next field of activity. 5 ' 'P'lutcifial '? zxe velC ‘TJteteoye PRINCIPAL’S FAREWELL ADDRESS We are but fifteen of the thousands of young men and women who this spring are graduating from schools all across this vast land of ours. Fif- teen! A drop in the statistical bucket, and yet statistics are stark things. The important thing is that each of you is an individual being, and the magic breath of life is just as strong and important in you whether you have associated with fourteen or fourteen hundred classmates. If now you see the truth in the phrase, The more a man learns, the more a man realizes how little he knows,” then I shall be in large measure satisfied with your school- ing. Wisdom and humility go hand in hand. Have both. Goodbye and good luck. 6 I FIRST ROW: Gordon Houle, Fern Jones, Peggy Worth, Sec., Sandra Meredith, Pres., Nancy McWain, V.-Pres., Hannah Wing, Treas., Kay Quinn, Donald Bailey. Whatever Peg does, she always seems to inject a bit of her personality into everything she undertakes. Her originality of ideas and constructive sug- gestions have been valuable to our senior class. Peg is a friend to everyone and everyone her friend. 26 I I 28 Ok ii 3i Our ory In 1956, fourteen likely-looking students trudged up the stairs to begin the last milestone at Brighton High. These Freshmen were Bonny Worth, president; Milton Heath, vice-president; Kay Quinn, secretary; Peggy Worth, treasurer; and Roena Dan- iels, our representative in Student Council. The other class mates were: Sandra Mere- dith, Janice Currier, Nancy McWain, Donald Bailey, Donald Emery, Hannah Wing, Robert Wing, and Joseph Stevens. Our first year was a memorable one with Freshman Initiation and our one-act play. As spring came upon us, we looked forward to becom- ing sophomores and, as our class advisor used to comment, wise fools.” In our sophomore year, we added Peter Elie to our class. We sponsored the Soph- omore Hop, the Sophomore Ball, and our annual one-act play. Yes, we certainly had fun that year, and, Mr. Spear used to give us parties, but when the word leaked out, did we catch it. Losing Pete Elie and Donald Emery, we were whittled down to the Lucky Thirteen” by the end of the year. Our class officers changed to Nancy Mc- Wain as vice-president, Fern Jones as secretary, and Sandra Meredith and Roena Dan- iels were Student Council representatives. Our junior year opened with fifteen members. We gained Bonnie Goulet and Gordon Houle from Sacred Heart. This addition certainly enlivened our class, as they both brought many good laughs to our school days. This was our prosperous year be- cause all our projects realized a good profit. We enjoyed ourselves immensely while earning our money, despite the hard work involved. The compliments we received on our hall at the Junior Prom made us forget or, at least, helped to ease the many hours of back-breaking labor. On September 8, 1959, the same fifteen met again in their old homeroom to com- plete that final milestone. Our graduation pictures were taken on Oct. 27, and we received them before Christmas. We also put on another successful paper drive. We were honored guests for an ice-cream party on December 4. This was our prize for being the best magazine salesmen during the drive. Before long mid-years were upon us, and our yearbook, Random Echoes, with Sandra Meredith as editor, was completed in March. With the completion of this, we soon began to look forward to the junior Prom and Alumni Banquet, at which we were the guests of honor. Our faithful offi- cers for this last year were Sandra Meredith as president; Nancy McWain as vice-pres- ident; Hannah Wing, treasurer; Peggy Worth, secretary. When Sandra Meredith left 29 the Student Council, Bonny Worth joined it and became president. Yes, we had a memorable four years in high school and with graduation day Friday, the 17th of June, we wish to take this opportunity to thank from the bottom of our hearts all those who have made these last four years so joyful. 30 Senior From Kay to Tommy Barnes— I will you this bottle of Geritol to strengthen your tired blood. Signed the 17th day of June, 1960 by: Mother Nature and all her little oddballs. 34 Senior Dear Mr. Burns, Through the fine cooperation of the Bureau of Missing Persons, .we were able to locate most of the members of the Brighton High School class of I960. Upon enter- ing the main office of the Bureau of Missing Persons, we were surprised to see Miss Janice Currier duly employed as private secretary to various officials. We were then referred to one of New York's famous night clubs'where we found Hannah Wing blow- ing her trumpet in Guy Lombardo’s well-known orchestra. After having a long chat with Hannah and an exciting visit in New York, we got our plane reservations for Chicago. As we boarded the plane, we were greeted by Bon- ny Worth, the stewardess for the Pan American Airlines. After talking with Bonny for a few minutes, she informed us that Robert Wing was the pilot of our plane. He had previously served five years in the Air Corps and was now a commercial pilot. Upon our arrival in Chicago, we decided to go shopping awhile in one of the largest department stores. Much to our surprise, we saw Nancy McWain modeling in a fashion show. We all noticed something different about her. She had actually gained five pounds! She told us that Fern Jones was also working in the store. She is now a commercial artist and does all the art work for the advertising department. Retiring to our hotel room that night, we read in the paper that there was to be a double wedding on the following Saturday. The brides were none other than Kay Quinn and Roena Daniels. We also read that Joseph Stevens was to be the best man. Much to our regret, we decided that we didn't have enough time to attend the wed- dings. We boarded another plane to Washington. At the end of a long trip we found ourselves walking down Pennsylvania Ave- nUM l ° Came ,across Pe8f?y Worth who is now working for the government and is still hoping against hope she 11 soon be put on a pension. Finally, we decided to return to Island Pond. It was about 10 p.m. when we ar- rived. Much to our surprise, wc found that the town was still alive. We decided to stop in at Hazel's, the restaurant, the old hang-out. In one of the booths sat Bonnie Goulet talking to a juke-box dealer, trying to whittle his price down. We sat down and asked Bonnie if she had any information about the missing members of our class. She informed us that Sandra Meredith was now married and working as a medical tech- nician at the new Women's Medical College in Burlington. A few days later we got wind of a basketball game played between Brighton High and its Alumni. This was one game we couldn't miss, and, when we got there, we found on the program that two of our classmates were on first string. They were Donald Bailey and Gordon Tooley” Houle. We lost, but only because they were out of prac- tice. Leaving the hall, we noticed that Milton Heath had taken over the janitor's job, which used to belong to Joe Gagnon. Because of our successful attempt to locate the members of our class, we were able to look back and remember all the wonderful times we had at B.H.S. We got quite a thrill out of it, so we thought we would write and tell you what has become of your class of I960. Sincerely, The Reunion Committee CLASS MOTTO in ourselves, our future lies.” CLASS FLOWERS Red and White Sweetheart Roses CLASS COLORS Maroon and White I Senior dais oem Our class of '60 would like to present •This poem to you with your consent. Quality, not quantity, that’s what we are; Fifteen students who will travel far. First comes Bailey, Donald by name. Basketball is his favorite game. Hunting he loves and goes when he can; Everyone calls him an outdoor man.” Next is Janice, the meek of our class, But she has proved to be quite a lass. With a little giggle and a flash of the eye, She's sure to latch on to some nice guy. Then comes Rocna, the Senior brain, School work to her is never a pain. She studies hard, but often we find That she always seems to have Pete on her mind. Here is Bonnie Goulet, one big pest, She is one who can always find jest. Laugh and be happy,” is her motto, And you’d better watch out when she has her auto. Here is Milton, a practical joker. Who handles a pencil like a poker. School’s not for him, that’s for sure; He's waited four years to walk out that door. Now here’s Gordon with his innocent look; A practical joke behind every book. He always tries to make others laugh, Sometimes it won't go with the faculty staff. 37 Next is Jones, Fern is her name; Noisy in school and fun is her aim. There is no one special for her as yet. But you can be sure a nice guy she'll get. Here is Nancy, the height of our class. On water skiis she's sure to pass. Jimmy and Lee have her head in a spin; All we can say is may the best man win. Sandra is next, Sandy for short, Basketball is her favorite sport. Never unsocial, lagging, or vicious, And with her man Leon she’s very ambitious. Now here's Kay with a nice personality, Clint's only girl, she is in reality. Her future is filled with high, bright aims And on one special guy she has her claims. Here is Stevens, his name is Joe. He has many friends but never a foe. The only boy who is always quiet; You can be sure he won’t start a riot. Here is Hannah, who's going fj.r In basketball, as she’s a star. With Mr. Burns she'll always debate. A mighty fine guy this girl should rate Here is Robert, a slow-moving boy. In any sport, he'll find his joy. He likes TV, as you all know. And with a girl he’ll never go. Now here’s Bonny, a good friend to all For some handsome fellow she’s sure to fall. With a happy giggle and laughing ways, A bright future, she’s bound, with happy days Last, but not least, is Peggy Worth Full of frolic, fun, and mirth. Personality so gay, her appearance so neat A nicer girl you’ll never meet. I « I FIRST ROW: C. Lanpher, J. Tillotson, C. Seguin, S. Paradis, Treas., T. Goupee, Pres., D. Worth, V.-Pres., B.
