Weinstein, GALAXY STAFF Once each year publication of Galaxy, the Brighton High School literary magazine, gives students an opportunity to see their creative writing in print. This year, under the lirection of co-editors Abbey Poze and Shera Banbury and assistant Sue Weinstein, poems, essays, and short stories again were enhanced by stu- dent illustrations. TRAPEZOID STAFF Trapezoid, the student newspaper, is published every three weeks by members of a staff headed by Carol Schlageter and assisted by the journalism class. In order to be chosen as a staff member, a student must have completed a year of journalism. This year, with the sup- port of the Parent-Faculty Group, 'STrap has been made available to every student. Sherman Selden is the advisor. Former publications members enjoy the annual Christmas party. -ar 1.

The design for learning of a foreign language begins in the fourth grade where pupils are introduced to either French or Spanish. ln the High School four years of French. four of Spanish, three of Latin and two of Ger- man are offered. Newness was the keynote of the Lan- guage Department this year with four new teachers as well as three new language labs, in which students listen to tapes and records over individual headsets in order to 20 improve their pronunciation. In language classes the aim is not only for verbal and written proficiency, but also for an understanding of the people, culture, history and geography of foreign countries. As an ideal way to ac- complish this understanding, fortunate students of Span- ish again took part this year in an exchange program with Mexican students. 15 . kh qllll
