Known throughout the country and the Church as a friend of the young people. President Smith possesses the wisdom, dis- cernment, and foresight, the spiritual vitality, and understanding love with which to guide them onward through this chaotic post-war period. PRESIDENT HOWARD S, McDONALD Bringing with him a thorough background of training and experience in various fields of education, particularly in school administration, and possessing strong re- ligious convictions and an enviable record in Church activities. President Howard S. McDonald, on November 14, 1945, became the fifth president of the Brigham Young University, succeeding Dr. Franklin S. Harris. President McDonald ' s winning smile, his radiant warmth for meeting people, and his sincere interest in the students and concern for their welfare, have endear- ed him to our hearts. His visions of a great building program in the future to handle adequately the growing registration at the University, lets us look forward with eager anticipation.
