High. All those who were from near around were ri- ding their bicycles or walking to the high school to renew their old ac- quanintances. They came from far and near to join with their new class- mates to take The Trek of 1950 at B.Y.U. High. 7 The morning of September I2 was bright and sunny. The stu- dents from far and near were on their way to B.Y.U. High to register for the 1949-50 school year. The years activities started with an orien- tation meeting in College Hall at nine o'cloclc. There we were in- troduced to the faculty, and Mr Clarke told us the procedure for registration. While registering, we renewed our acquaintances with all our school friends, and talked over the coming school activities. Teachers hurried from room to room with their arms piled so high with papers it was almost impossi- hte to see their faces. Many lines formed. and before the day was over you were pushed into a line you knew nothing about. Registra- tion day will always he remembered as the most eventful day of our high school life. This huiiding was very important fo us at the high school, for our Art De- partment was there, as well as many other classes. On the steps of this historical building we met the 1949- 50 officers of B.Y.U. High, who were there to welcome all the students hack to school. This was our chance to meet those who were to he our executives for the coming year. 2 The Education building The 1949-5 0 Officers PH' K' K.. , 4 , 4, 2 S5 V , , 5 1 5 i I n-xii 31, F .rg , ,QQ ,Q . ,V 'gin . . .. z- I 4, ek N841 E Y 5 s x 5 5 S 'ii' 'A 'Z 1 g, , .. yn , -41.4, F33 z 5 ,MQ 4 Wg, ffl A 1 ft ra . The vice-president, cheer leaders, and all the junior high officers were elected. The halls were covered with election posters and slogans. This put the school into the elec- tion spirit. OCTOBER 7 The first assembly that was' pre- sentecl this year was put on hy the faculty. We found that most of our teachers were talented per- formers as well as gooci instructors. OCTOBER 10 On this clay the student council met for the first time with all the officers of the school. They worlc- ed up a schedule of the year's events, and they started the syear's activities rolling. OCTOBER 14 One of the first of important foot- ball games with Payson tool: place. B.Y.U. High played a good game, hut was heaten 50 to 7. OCTOBER 15-14 These two ciays were our first ciays of vacation since school had started, The reason for the va- cation was the teacher's institute in Salt Lake. All of our teachers attended so school was dismissed for two ciays. OCTOBER 26 One of tlie most -unique national assemblies that we liacl tllis year was tlxe assembly presented by a couple from Holland. Tliey sang Dutclx songs and told us of tlle clilce in Holland. OCTOBER 27 Our most successful pep rally was lielcl tlle night of tlme 27tl1. The students met in front of tlme scliool, went over to tl'1e vacant lot across from Allen Hall, ancl had a pep rally and a street dance. OCTOBER 28 Toclay we playecl our neighbors to tlxe nortli, American Fork. The game was played at B.Y.. and tlie team had tlie scllool rigllt lse- lmind tliem. The score was 54 to 0 for American Fork. OCTOBER 28 The first senior class party was sclmeclulecl to be held at the lake, but because of poor weatller the class spent the evening in 250 A. Tliere was a dance, and very de- licious clxili was servecl. OCTOBER 31 The Halloween party was spon- sorecl lay the civic clubs of Provo. and the purpose was to lceep time students off the streets. It was held in the Womens gym. Tliere were many fun games, and this certainly was a treat for Y lmigln school. NOVEMBER 3 In the Homecoming parade one of the main objects of interest was the float built lay the art depart' ment, under the direction of Mr. Gunn. The float representing B. Y.U. High received first place in the artistic division. This was one of the many profitable projects of the art classes this year. NOVEMBER l 1 The Sadie Hawkins dance was one of the most successful dances of the year. This was the chance for the girls to catch their man. Manyin' Sam was there to per- form the wedding ceremony for all those who wanted to he mar- riecl. NOVEMBER 14 One of the most interesting national assemblies we had-this year was the one with the woman sea diver relating her experiences in this business. She had a dis- play of marine life that added to the interest of her lecture. NOVEMBER 18 For the first time in many years the band received new uniforms. They are very good looking uni- forms and certainly add to the pep of B.Y.U. High School. NOVEMBER 18 The party that the girls enjoyecl most was the slumber party in the lVlen's gym. The girls came out in their louciest pajamas for the party. The refreshments were ser- vecl by the Home EC. department. They consisted of hot chocolate and chili. This was a sleepless night for the girls of B.Y.U. High, but one of the best parties of the yea. NOVEMBER 18 The band presented its first as- sembly of the year. VVe all realize how much worlc has gone into the band, for they are nearly the best in the region. The bancl shoulcl be congratulated for its fine sup- port this year at all the football and basketball games. It certainly adciecl to the spirit of the school. At NOVEMBER 23 The first Fauvine assembly was presented today. All of the Fau- vines participated, and they show- ed a lot of creative ability and talent. The theme of the slum- ber party was carriecl throughout the assembly, and the climax of the clay's activities was the slum- ber party for the girls of the high school. NOVEMBER 24-25 School was dismissed for two days for Thanksgiving. Everyone was happy that this vacation came along to give them a chance to relax for a few days. NOVEMBER 30 In accordance with Safety Week, Ab Jenkins came to the high school to lecture about his experi- ences in driving and racing. We saw a very interesting movie, that was narrated hy him. Mr. Jenkins brought his famous Monnon Meteor with him and displayed it to the students. DECEMBER 2 B.Y.U. High was very weii rep- resented in the city Christmas parade, hy the high school hand. In their snappy uniforms, under the leadership of Joanna Hohhs, the Drum Majorette, they looked very good, and the high school was very proud of them. W DECEMBER 2 The hest float the art department made this year was the float for the Christmas parade. It was a huge toy solder, and the arms and head moved up and down. Many long hours were spent Building this float. It was so hig, it was hard to make. This float was the suhject of a number of newspaper articles which highly commended the high school for constructing such a unique float. With outstanding portrayal of characters, and very good stage props, Little Women proved to he one of the outstand- ing productions of the Childrens Theatre. There were two casts that alternated performances to give more students a chance to work in the theatre, and make it possible for nearly all the child- ren of Provo to see the play.
