ifuuuft rrr- Briercrest Bible Institute Caronport, Sask. TO EVERY PURPOSE “A time to Speak, A time to Keep, A time to Seek, A time to Plant, A time to Laugh, A time to Reap.” The life of Jesus Christ is the perfect example of Purposed I timing. “I seek not mine own will, but the will of the I Father which hath sent Me.” This was the single dominant I purpose throughout our Lord’s life. The things He I encountered along the way, joy or sorrow, success or I failure, never deterred Him from it. “He steadfastly set I His face to go to Jerusalem.” Jerusalem: the climactic I point of God’s will in the life of His Son. ADMINISTRATION FACULTY and STAFF “A time to speak” Eccles. 3:7 “HE HATH GIVEN US AN EXAMPLE” Among all the things that happen to us in our earthly pilgrimage, certain precious memories linger - recollections that remain by reason of the blessings they brought and the lessons they taught. One such memory for the students of B.B.l. is the love and concern shown for each of us by our faculty and staff. They have taught, and we have learned, by His Word through them, and His life in them. Truly, He has given us an example. Dedication “Singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.” The expression of music as a form of worship towards God, is one which must be carefully developed and trained. You, Mr. Aikenhead, have offered us that training. Through your patience, the desire has been born within us to worship our Lord and Maker with a song in our hearts and praise upon our lips. Through your sensitivity of expression, we have wept in the rememberance of Christ’s agonies, we have become hushed with the reality of His Presence, we have rejoiced in His might and glory. Never will time erase from our memories the panorama of Christ’s life as the Lord has enabled you to interpret Handel’s Messiah to us. Our hearts truly cry, “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain”. Surely such vibrant worship, depth of spiritual insight, dynamic Christian expression, is the outpouring of a soul in intimate communion with his Lord. We thank God, Mr. Aikenhead, for the song He has placed within your heart. And we thank you, for your willingness to return this gift to the Giver of gifts. Through you, He has taught us Worship. In deep appreciation, The Student Body FROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK To Every Purpose—A Time The underlying purposes of God are evident throughout the Bible. History is but an account of how these have been worked out in every age. Joseph discerned the purpose of God in his time. The overrulling presence of God guided him through difficult and complex experiences until he reached the place and position at the very time to accomplish his task. In reflecting upon it he said to his brethren when they pled for forgiveness of their treatment of him earlier in life, “Fear not... But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.” Moses, as crown prince of Egypt, could have reasoned that providence had been good to him. Once on the throne he could use his position to improve the lot of the people of God and make Egypt a fit place for them. “After all,” he could have rationalized, “I have precedent in Joseph.” Instead, he refused the throne because God had another purpose for his time. Moses discerned that the time had come to lead that nation back to Palestine, their God-given land. Daniel, the scholar and statesman, was deported to Babylon. God raised him to a high position in the land of his captivity. There he used his influence until Cyrus, the Persian, issued the proclamation to realease Judah from captivity so that they could return to Palestine and rebuild the temple. God has a definite purpose in mind for each age, as exemplified by the above men. through faithful studies, seeming cross-purpose experiences, and disciplined lives they discovered their main mission and did it. It is for you students to study the Word that you may leam to discern God’s will for your day. Get your vision focused on Christ. Prepare diligently so that when your time comes you will be ready to fulfill His purpose. Mr. and Mrs. Hildebrand display the graciousness much a part of them. BOARD OF DIRECTORS SEATED: Mr. T. We remember - a Fellow Christian: One with a burning desire to proclaim the name of Christ. To lose a friend from this world saddens the human heart, but Trudy Schulz, on Oct. 26, graduated from this life, to the highest calling of her Lord and Saviour. As we remember her, we also rejoice with her in the joy she now knows. In loving tribute, The Student Body GRADUATES “A time to Keep” Eccl. 3:6 “HE LED THEM ON SAFELY, SO THAT THEY FEARED NOT.” Thou standest on the threshold of days which are unknown; Thou standest at the gateway of paths unmapped, unshewn; But God Himself is with thee - thy Saviour, Keeper, Friend And He will not forsake thee, not leave thee to life’s end. Thou standest, and thou askest - “What hath the days in store? ” He answereth thee “Blessing! yea blessing more and more” What form that blessing taketh thou mayest not yet know, But blessing upon blessing he waiteth to bestow. Thou waitest - and He waiteth; He waiteth now to bless; To link His sovereign greatness to human helplessness; To shew through all life’s journey, His tireless care for thee; To fill thy incompleteness with His sufficiency. Thou pausest on the threshold, enfolded lies the year; But, with God’s arms beneath thee, there is no cause for fear; Through shadowed days or sunlit - whate’er the year may bring - This fact may be thy comfort - God reigns in everything. Why are there seas and masses of land? Why are the beaches covered with sand? Why are there flow’rs, why are there trees? Why are there birds, why are there bees? Why is there man, and angels above? I’ll tell you, God — needed something to love. Sharon Birch 11A High School SERVICE “A time to plant” Eccles. 3:2 “GO YE INTO ALL THE WORLD” Go, heralds of salvation, forth; Go in your Heavenly Father’s name; From east to west, from south to north, The glorious gospel wide proclaim. Go forth to sow the living seed; Seek not earth’s praise, nor dread its blame, Nor labours fear, nor trials heed; Go forth to conquer in His name. “Lo, I am with you,” saith the Lord, “My grace your spirit shall sustain; Strong is my arm, and sure My work; My servants shall not toil in vain, Go forth in hope; My burden take,” Till God’s great reaping day shall come; Then they who sowed in tears shall wake. And hail the joyful harvest home. - Samuel F. Smith BIBLE SCHOOL CHOIR Under the Direction of Mr. W. Fox, The Bible School Choir Tour will extend from April 7 to April 15. EXTENSION MINISTRY The extension ministry, a vital part of the total program of B.B.I., takes place not only throughout the school year, but is also evidenced in the summer tours of both faculty and staff. Tours begin immediately after Spring Conference. Most teams travel until the end of June, although others are engaged for the entire summer. The greater portion of this extension ministry is focused upon individual churches. The choirs present entire programmes of sacred music; the smaller teams (trios and quartettes), both music and message. Travelling teams aim to challenge those with spiritual needs, to inform those who desire to study the Word of God that B.B.I. is available to them, and to present the needs of our school. Through the summer extension ministry a host of people are contacted in churches and in individual homes as they are so graciously opened to accommodate the team members. Camp work also plays a large part in the ministry. Extension has been effective in the past and it is our prayer that it maybe even more so in the future as we share in this ministry of representing our Lord and our school. : Dahl, Olga Klemionek, ithwestem Sta larry Loewen. (Phil. 3:10). “That I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador... (Eph. 6:19, 20). Christian Service is the natural overflow of a heart filled by Jesus Christ and His righteousness. Likened to a man breathing, one inhales in the classroom, in dorm devotions, in various campus activities, and then, from an overflowing heart and life exhales through Christian Service assignments what has been learned. Breathing is a normal process with inhaling and exhaling dependent one on the other. Likewise, we get to know Him to make Him known. During the Fall Semester 1969 regularly assigned groups ministered to Senior Citizen’s homes in Regina and Moose Jaw; in the Training School (for mentally retarded) in Moose Jaw; in Bible Clubs in Regina, Belle Plain, Moose Jaw, Caronport and Chaplin; in youth groups at Belle Plain and Droxford; in Sunday Schools in Moose Jaw, Darmody, Chaplin and Caronport; student pastorates and preaching points in Moose Jaw, Mossbank, Darmody, Droxford, and Davidson; and Life-Line (street and cafe personal contact) ministry in Moose Jaw. Over 11,000 have been in attendance at these various meetings. At times a Christian Service assignment may seem like a small matter. However, assignments well done often lead to greater responsibilities and opportunities ordered by the Lord. The future for Briercrest students in the Christian Service outreach of the school is as bright as the promises of God. “He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him. Ps. 126:6 C. Weinhauer Christian Service Director MISSIONS EXECUTIVE The Prayer Bands on the B.B.I. campus make up a very important part of student life. Provision is made for each student to become personally involved in the unified effort of Prayer Bands. The following areas: North America, Europe, Far East, South America, Middle East and Africa are represented in prayer once each week of the year. The purpose of meeting this way is to support missionaries through prayer group projects as well as the prayer efforts of students. Students are informed of the work of each field by means of literature, visiting missionaries and other missionary reports. A challenge is given each Thursday during the Missionary hour. The challenge also comes through other such areas as Missionary Conferences, conferrettes and Siminars. It is the aim of Prayer Bands to stimulate an interest, in regard to the work of the fields represented, in the heart of each student. A will that includes Christian charitable bequests has some distinct advantages: Reduce estate taxes Promotes the Lord ' s work GOD ' S BLESSING IN YOUR INVESTMENT Briercrest provides opportunities for Christian investment like deposit certificates and gift annuities. We sometimes do our best work on the uphill bits and even on the roughest road we need fear not for it goes straight to the hilltops. Therefore with strong endurance let us race along the course that stretches before us, turning our eyes away from all else toward Jesus, to Him who gives first impulse to our faith, to Him who brings it to final maturity. Hebrew 12:1 May we choose His road. STUDENT COUNCIL ...A LIASON... FROM TOP TO BOTTOM: Wes Teterud, Vice-President; Carl Enns, President; Olga Klemionek, Secretary; Yvonne McCallum, Historian; Norm Watson, Missions Co-ordinator; Dave Healey, High School President. 86 5 STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT “The first and best victory is to conquer self.” Plato This has been the year of the moon. Man has taken the great step into outer space - a dream of centuries has been realized. Man has conquered his earth-bound environment. On the Briercrest campus it is God that has conquered! Through the power of God many students have taken that great step and overcome the “gravity” of being earth-bound. The conquering of outer space has been small when it is compared to the conquering of the inner dimensions on campus this year. Through the faithful presentation of the Word in the classroom, the Christian fellowship in the dormitory, and the service opportunities in Christian Service, this year has been a challenge - a challenge met. “In all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.” Rom. 8:37. CLASS REPRESENTATIVES Kaylene Benson, Grade XII; Donna Bryant, Grades IX and X; Dong Newstaeter, 2nd year Bible; Merrill Jesperson, 3rd year Bible; Keith Wyton, 1st year Bible; Mary Jane Moran, Grade XI. 87 BRIERCREST FALL CONFERENCE Evangelist Ken Campbell One of the highlights of our school year is the Annual Fall Conference, this year being held October 23-26. We received great blessings as we listened to the ministry of the Campbell-Reese Team, Rev. George Brooks and Dr. Francis Steele. Many missionaries shared with us their burden for the field. Not only did we have a chance to listen - there was ample opportunity to browse around the missions exhibits to see for ourselves the need in our world. The challenge was presented - “We do have a Story to tell to the Nations. Let’s GET INVOLVED for there is SO LITTLE TIME.” Soloist Jim Reese Missionary Candidates Lorraine Bob Waters. ANNUAL TURKEY SPORTS 69-70 J SPORTS COMMITTEE KNEELING: Mr. Barkman. STANDING, Left to Right: Norm Gaines, Marie Renich, Mike Kelly, Maureen Owen, Dave Healey, Jean Gray, Lyle Unger. The Sports Committee has to be one of the busiest organizations on the B.B.I. campus, because of its varied responsibilities. This committee has been mainly responsible for “Friday Night” entertainment. This in itself proves to be a challenging task. Friday night activities have included anything from a basketball game, gymn party, film, hockey game, skating or ice carnival. The aspect of Friday night that seldom changes to get students enthused is lunch and fellowship in the dining hall to end off the evening. In the main, this has been organized by the Sports Committee. This committee has staged various tournaments and bonspiels, and furthermore has been the thrust behind all sports events on the Caronport campus. Athletics are an important part of life at B.I. This committee has made every effort possible to promote athletics in its various phases on the campus so that in the final end, we might leam to do “ALL things to the glory of God.” Intramural sports have given many people an opportunity to participate. Extramural sports have given some an opportunity to excel. This year our high school football team was entered and won the South Central District Football League. We entered a new area of college competition with some of the other schools. Ir. this college league we participated in volleyball, basketball and hockey. We felt that this was a very profitable venture. In ihe spring of the year, we move into the track and field program for the high school. Last year 7 of our young people participated in the Provincial Track Meet. We thank God for the facilities which we have on the campus, and through our Sports Program we trust that Young People will have instilled in them principles which will benefit them as they continue to walk with God. 96 HIGH SCHOOL CHEERLEADERS BACK ROW: Shirley Sawatzky, Kathy MacLaggen. Norm Ganes Most Valuable Player The coaching staff felt it was very appropriate that Norman Gaines was awarded the Most Valuable Player award of our football team. “Normie”, as he is known to us, has been with our team all through his high school years. What a thrill to see him develop in football, general leadership, and in his spiritual life. This, Normie’s last year was truly his best. As quarterback of the squad he engineered many touchdowns, either by his pin-point passing, or utilizing his running backs. In many games he was called upon to play offense as well as defense. We feel that the players made an excellent choice when they voted Norman Gaines as the Most Valuable Player. CLIPPER BASKETBALL-OUR ALL STARS 100 the coach. Jump for that ball, Perry. That Bible training only is inadequate for missionaries is well-known. Even if not entering missionary service, it is well to have training in the health and other fields in order to live reasonably and above circumstances. There is much needless suffering. Yet truly this commodity - TIME - is running short. For each of us, God has granted exactly ONE lifetime. How we spend that time is up to us. May we be challenged by the words of Paul, to seek HIS purpose in HIS time. “But this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
