Corona 1961 Published by Senior Class of Bridgton High School Bridgton, Maine Printed by American Yearbook Company Hannibal, Missouri Contents DEDICATION PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE FACULTY CORONA STAFF SENIORS ACTIVITIES SPORTS LITERARY ALUMNI ADVERTISEMENTS 2 Dedication We, the class of '61, respectfully dedicate our issue of the Corona to Malcolm Doble, who has been our principal and teacher for the past two years. We greatly appreciate his sincere efforts and the guidance which he has given us. 3 Principal’s Message You will shortly receive your diploma. This diploma is symbolic of your successful completion of high school. As is always the case, some of you were more successful than others. However, this diploma signifies that all of you accepted the challenge of completing your high school education. In the course of your years in high school, you were challenged to accept the fact that your work must reach a certain minimum standard, that your behavior must be acceptable and that school demanded from you certain obligations not directly connected with your subject matter. In the previous paragraph are, I believe, the reasons why a high school diploma has significance today. It tells the world that here is a young man or woman who has shown mature action enough to hold a rather demanding job for four years. If this individual will continue to meet these challenges, he will be reasonably successful in whatever endeavor he pursues; our working society demands these same qualities for successful employment. To you, the class of 1961, the faculty and I offer our congratulations on your forthcoming gradua- tion. We wish you success in your endeavors to make your place in life. Let us extend to you an invi- tation to return often and share your experiences with us. Malcolm A. Doble Principal 4 SEATED: F. Oberg; M. Doble; N. Spear; M. Irish. STANDING: C. McKenney; C. Team Captain, and Jeff Pike placed fifth and twelfth respectively for the Skimeister Award. Chip Taylor, who did an outstanding job this year, is the only senior on the team. The other team members are Steve Haggett, Jeff Pike, John Gallinari, Randy Parker, and Bruce Gould. The team finished the season by taking first place in the ski meet which was held during the Bridgton High School Winter Carnival. Steve Haggett placed first in the giant slalom at that meet. Other schools participating were Andover High School, Wilton Academy, and Deer- ing High School. The B.H.S. girls'ski team was newly formed this year. They were advised by Mr. Charles McKenney and coached by Bruce Chalmers with Steve Stevens giving additional help. The team attended the Girls' State Meet at Farmington, February 18. 1961, where Mary Allen and Judy Lane placed in the slalom event. This was the only meet the girls attended this year as the team was formed late in the season. A good team is anticipated next year as most of the members are underclassmen. I I FIRST ROW: D. THAT BONE Five days ago, as I recall. 1 spied a mouse-hole in the wall. Investigation closer told Of cunning mouse in curtain fold. 1 brought the cat. begarrthe chase Upsetting books and lamps and vase. 'Till being bold, the little rat Turned around and bit the cat. To get that bone I'm dreaming of. Before the neighbor's mongrel does, So please dear master don't delay. To let me out on this fine day; The dog upon the rug did lay. And looked at me as if to say. That bone I burried in the dirt. Is waiting for my teeth to jerk. Mary-Lee Lane Judith Hatch THE NIGHT BEFORE NOTEBOOKS 'Twas the night before notebooks And at my private pad. Not a creature was stirring, Except this weary lad. The others were snuggled All safe in their beds. And I at my typewriter Was just about dead! 1 had just settled down For a long evening’s work When all of a sudden I awoke with a jerk. I stretched and I yawned. My muscles all achin' When my nose caught a whiff Of freshly-fried bacon! I had dozed that night While at my machine. And now I awoke At the sun's first gleam. Now the day was upon me, Alas, and Oh. woe! For you see, I had sixteen More chapters to go! Now I stay here for breakfast. For Supper and lunch, Serving my time After school for a month!
