MWH M IPM S S B Bin P S K ■nil I i I Alpha State Teachers College Bridgewater, Massachusetts STATE TEACHERS COLLEGE AT BRIDGEWATER January 27, 1°55 Dear Seniors: I am happy to greet you through the agency of Alpha as you prepare yourselves for the turning in the road. Xour Alma hater has worked with you and for you during the past four years, fashioning and designing you for your profession. During that time she has urged you to work iiard, to play hard, and to pray hard that out of thj.s thoughtful blending an integrated person might emerge: : erious, mature, and ready for your God-given vocation. For surely we .mow that the process of education bears its richest fruit when vie add to the undertanding of the true and the appreciation of the beautiful, the effective desire and the determined will to bring behavior into honest har- mnny xrith the canons of truth, goodness, and beauty. You have been most fortunate in your choice of a Teachers College. Here amid a modern setting, you have learned ageless lessons. Tie Bridgeuater of today might amaze the early leaders who wrought in a generation that built its schools of spirit and zeal with just a few boards ar.d a little plaster added for O ood measure. I doubt that they would find any great change in the essence of the 3ridgewater purpose-the shaping of the teaching mind and heart, the development of the teaching attitude. Mow .that your elysian years are over, you must labor, in season and out, to hold fast to the inspirations that breathed life into your school. These inspirations will remain with you only so long as you are anxious to be touched and guided by them, ' .. ' hen they become merely subject matter for the Bridgewater story and recorded as something that used to be, then indeed, your college will become but the battered remnant of a lost csuse and you its faithless army. Let your concern for Alma Mater ' s good name and your own noble vision be a lamp to your feet and a flame to your hearts. Remember, finally, that the best influence wielded by the teacher is that of good example as it supplements good precept. Those whom you may teach will not become the world ' s best citizens through a formal study of right and wrong; rather they must be reared and inspired not only in the home but in the classroom and on the playing field oy teachers whose very goodness gives a pleasant glow to the atmosphere. Alma Mater, bidding you a motherly au-revoir, asks only that you so live and so teach as to be worthy always of your noble profession. ■r e, the 955, fondly and respectfully dedicate this edition of: . Alpha to Mr. Daniel J. Noonan. His ability to understand and to satisfy the needs of his students, both in and out of the classroom, we feel has made him an outstanding member of our profession. - ■I ■- J $ SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS Secretary Treasurer Vice President President VERONICA FLANGHEDDY JOHN PAVAO BEATRICE SULLIVAN ARNOLD ALMQUIST ■' ■, ' -i m Arnold W.
