o PRESIDENT ' S MESSAGE The spiritual vacuum in America today is the fruit of an educational policy which for all too long has ignored God. Over three hundred years ago the great poet John Milton wrote, The end of learning is to know God aright, and out of that knowledge to love Him, to imitate Him, to be like Him, as we may the nearest by possessing our souls of true virtue, which being united to the heavenly grace of faith makes up the highest perfection. Man ' s ascent through the a ges has been long and hard, and at each step he has accumulated new knowl- edge about things, about people, about the relationship of men, one to the other, in accordance with the Divine Plan. It is important that those who guide the thinking of the student of today and make of him the responsible citizen of tomorrow should be men and women of sound ideas. We must never forget that what is in the teacher ' s head and heart passes into the minds of the young. As teachers, we must bring back into the classrooms these and other Christian truths which form the basis of our existence and the existence of our United States of America. Education must train the human will along with the intellect. It must produce a free man. This is the basic education which our Founding Fathers urged as needed for the perpetuation of the Republic. To be a teacher is to have a great mission in life. The teacher is one of the great channels whereby the heritage and traditions of civilization are transmitted to the young whose habits, ideas, and ways of life will determine the course of our national and world future. There can be no greater work. May you be recognized and respected by those who have a true philosophy for right living, as A TEACHER. JOHN J. KELLY President
