Senior year is a time when every- one must look ahead. Our past four years at Bridgewater-Raynham have been geared towards preparing us for the future. The 1984 Unitas Staff would now like to take the opportuni- ty to reflect back upon these years. During these times we have met new people and made new friends whom we will always remember. These peo- ple, along with our families and the faculty members, shared many spe- cial moments with us. To preserve these memories, our yearbook contains flashbacks on all the activities and events which we participated in at B-R. We learned from these experiences and from one another, while growing closer at the same time. As we, the class of 1984, look back upon Younger Days , School , Sports , Friends , Special Memories , and Four Years , we feel a sense of pride and accomplish- ment. Our achievements are not to be forgotten. Therefore, Unitas proudly presents LOOKING BACK . ± v I, ■ft I I I Mr 'V m ■■■■. . . Younger Days Although it seems as if the past four years have flown by, we are able to remember days when we thought we would never come this far. Those were our younger days. Then, rather than concentrating on which college was best or which job would be the most satisfying, we thought of the best name for our teddy bears and wondered what kind of cookies our mothers baked for a snack. As we grew, our priorities began to change. And now, as we look forward to the future, we fondly remember the care- free days of our youth. 7 vP ::i-™ ' X m L rt fk ■t y J h A- § « W. H. McELWAIN SCHOOL Kindergarten A.M. 1971 1972 i m ' School Days For the past four years, our school has been like a second home for us. We have done everything here except sleep, and a few of us have done that. We arrived here at 7:30 AM each day, (an hour no human being should ever have had to see), and we left at various times in the afternoon. For the many of us who were involved in sports, our day didn't end until 5:00. We have taken many different sub- jects here at BR, one of which was History. History was a very informa- tive subject, especially for those of us who hadn't realized that history con- sists of a lot more than just what happened last Friday night. Another subject we will not easily forget is English. Over the years we have learned many different vocabu- lary words, like decadence, rudiment, and subsidiary. Sometimes vocabu- lary was difficult and time consuming for us but the time spent will be worthwhile when we impress our fu- ture bosses with our knowledge. It is too bad our bosses may not under- stand a word we are saying! Another subject we took was Biol- ogy. We had to dissect frogs and pigs just to discover that animals have the same insides we have! It would have been a lot more interesting if we were allowed to dissect something indistin- guishable, like the school lunches! And how could we forget the ever- famous subject of math? One thing we may wonder in years to come is why we ever had to take math in the first place, when computers can do the math for us! Our school has been a very special place for us. It has given us the knowl- edge we will need for adulthood, and has brought us together as a class. Hopefully the past four years have been equally wonderful for all of us, and in years to come we all will look back on our high school years with a smile. oHHRSBd I ■■■■I 'VR'- ■t . . . At Sports During the past four years, the B-R athletic teams have brought home nu- merous honors. In 1981, our football team, with a 10-0 record, were OCL champions. However, Bridgewater- Raynham was not allowed to partici- pate in the Superbowl. For the first time in this school's history, the girls' basketball team achieved a record of 14-5, securing a spot in the Division I tournament. They finally finished as semi-fina- lists, losing a close game to Norwood. Bridgewater-Raynham's other teams have contributed significantly toward placing the school in a com- petitive position in the Old Colony League. Our teams are viewed as tough, aggressive competitors with a deep desire to win. MINUTES SECONDS QME • • • • • • • • DOWN i TOGO MOTR JBl . :V| A MIT ! Special Times „ we look back on the special times of our high school years, we remem- ber the proms, the dances, the rallies, the games ... all the events that have brought us closer as a class. When we remember these special events, we think of the people with whom we have shared fond memories. Al- though we will attend many more spe- cial affairs in our futures, we will al- ways have room for these irreplacable memories of high school. At The Past Four Years As we look back on these four years we notice that at times our lives ap- peared to slowly trudge and at others darted so fast that memory became our only retaliation. Seemingly ever- lasting moments often became a blur in the mind. But nonetheless this peri- od was indeed without tranquility and therefore all the more noteworthy. The past is probably our only de- fense against the future. Reminis- cence guides the lives of all and ulti- mately preserves our sanity. Recollection, in reality, keeps our perspective on life. The answer to one's quest probably lies in the look- ing into the horizon of our past. C. Chandrasekhar  v Nv. j! MUNSON YEARBOOK DEDICATION CLASS OF 1984 We, the class of 1984, would like to dedicate this year's issue of Unitas to Mr. Gene Munson. Mr. Munson has been teaching for 1 4 years, his last 1 3 being here at B-R. Prior to his teaching career and before landing his current role as a physics teacher, Mr. Munson led quite a life. A native of Washington State, Mr. Munson attended the University of California at Berkeley and graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engi- neering. His first career was in the Air Force doing two main things; one being an aeronautical engineer and serving as a pilot, which included flying B-17 Bombers in World War II. After his Air Force life and before coming here to B-R, he worked for 3 years as an engineer in the industry department of General Electric. Mr. Munson now lives in Falmouth with his wife Clare and has one daughter, Kristin, of whom he is very proud. He enjoys playing golf, bridge, horseshoes, and enjoys watching all sports. Mr. Munson says that teaching is a second career for him but says that it's one of the best things in life he's ever done. It is a privilege to have Mr. Munson as a teacher here. He is a good teacher and a good friend, one whom we will all remember long after leaving Bridgewater- Raynham Regional High School. 16 s T A F F Dr. George Capernaros Acting Superintendent Headmaster BRIDGEWATER-RAYNHAM REGIONAL SCHOOL DISTRICT MT. The organization is run by Mr. Stephen Heaslip and Mr. Paul Moscardelli also our club officers John McCormick, Eric Olson, Clellia Smalley, Clarisse Fairbanks, Paul Brennan. We had a total of 10 day trips to dif- ferent mountains throughout New England and these were all a great success. Our overnight trip to Sugarloaf USA in Maine was our biggest and best trip ever. January 13, 14, 15, 16 we skied all day and night and returned to the Sugarloafers ski dorm. We had good times, good parties, good jokes, and bad food to all make a good trip. Another program we offered was the mid-week ski program at Blue Hills. This allowed any level skier to take part in group lessons. From novice to expert we all had fun. The children were playing outside in the snow, with hopes that the night wouldn's pass very slow. For the next day, they thought, would be filled with such joys. As records and robots and electronic toys. With Ma in her furcoat and hat with a flower, the sitter was earning three dollars an hour. When the day was all done, and our shopping complete, we wanted to leave and rest our feet. With our arms full of presents for Suzy and Sam, together we walked to our new black Trans Am. When out on the lot there arose such a spurt, We sprang in our car so as not to get hurt. For a man was arrested, his plot full of flaws, 'cause he failed in his plan to mug Santa Claus. Away to our house we flew like a flash, but carefully, though, so we would not crash. When we arrived at our home, it was ten at night, and the sitter greeted us with less than delight. When what to our wondering eyes did appear, but both of our children all filled up with fear. What's this? did I ask, It's quite late for each tot, and here you all are watching Salem's Lot. I'm quite sorry, she said, the kids couldn't sleep. In my day, I said, we had no TV. and Santa was only a fantasy. On Christmas we got, not a toy, but a coat, and if we were good, a tiny sailboat. But now all the kids want electronic toys, that whistle, and talk, and make all kinds of noise. What is this world coming to? I sa id aloud. Of these times and these people I am not proud. Even I have changed, and I like luxury, but a better and simpler life there must be! 1 drove home the sitter and turned around, and back at home I heard not a sound. While wrapping the presents I felt depressed, over the changing of times and the need of rest. I wished that the feeling would not long last, and I hoped that the future would be more like the past. by Sandy Moyer Graduation Happy excitedness Birth of new experience Death of old comfort Routine Sadness Starting again Alone. by Christine Jahnke Success . By practicing many hours for both games and com- petitions, this group of girls have grown closer. Over the summer the girls attended U.S.C.A. camp at Bridgewater State College and received a fourth place trophy and four first place ribbons. Not only did the B-R Cheerleaders benefit from the learning experience but also made several new friends. With Football captain Joan Quer- zoli and Basketball captain Lynn Hickey the Cheerleaders have shown their dedication by baking, decorat- ing the players lawns, and providing entertainment at the Thanksgiving day rally. Captains Phil McGlaughlin and Bill Turner as- sured the school that they would win. Senior class president Cindy Gracia and Miss Regional queen Sandy White also addressed the crowd en- thusiastically. This year, the team dedicated their victory to the memory of Jay Barter. Mark Henderson was introduced as next year's honorary captain. The cheerleaders and pom squad performed routines pyramids, and cheers with the aid of the players. On the varying start- ing lineup there usually averaged three seniors, four juniors, two sopho- mores, and two freshmen. Under the leadership of captains Sean Carey, Eric Olson, Tim Chicoine, and Greg Perry, the team finished off the sea- son strongly with a record of 1 1 wins, 0 losses, and 5 ties. The team was disappointed in the state champion- ship tournament, being defeated by New Bedford 3- 1 . Overall, this season proved that Bridgewater-Raynham is still the most dominant force in the Old Colony League. BOYS' SOCCER sitting (L to R): K. Gendreau, T. Chicoine, S. Ceary, E. Olson, G. Remember the times we dared to try To reach those eternal stars too high. And though we didn't reach them then, What couldn't be done could never have been. Remember, as you're still thinking of me, The continuous times we yearned to be free. And all the times we lowered outselves, To put our wants back on those crowded shelves. Still remember the few days of childish pain, That really weren't so bad with the rain. Rain that acted as our frightened tears, And washed away sorrow of all past years. Still there were the dreaded days of bad, Remember them though they may make you sad. The good times overwhelmed them all, In the winter, spring, summer, and fall. You all know who you are, so I'll leave names un- mentioned. You were always there when I was the last person in the class to finish a test, and you gave up your free period to stay with me until I finished. You were always the one who said for me to be myself, an individual, when I was trying so hard to be like everyone else. You were always the one who gave me two extra points on my final grade — although un- deserving of that grade I was, but you wanted to see me make that honor roll just once. You were always the one who made me think about what was important. You pointed me in the right direction. You were always the one who gave me that extra push when what I really should've got- ten was a shove! You were always there for my bad moods, even when we both knew you had better things to do. You were always the one who said, come in, my door is always open. Little did you know your house would soon turn into Grand Central Station! You were always the one who said that extra prayer at night just because you wanted every- thing to turn out right for me. You were always the one who told me to stop feeling sorry for myself because it wasn't help- ing me any. So true! You were always the one who took the place of my parents when I needed a helping hand and they weren't around. You were the one who taught me how to love others, and not just myself. You were always the one who said, I love you , and really meant it because you knew I needed to hear it. You were always the one who tried to give answers to my most difficult questions . . . and succeeded! Throughout all my ups and downs, my tears of laughter and sadness, you were always there for me. If that's not caring, what is? I'm speaking on behalf of the graduating class of 1984. We all had our favorites, I just couldn't walk away without letting you all know. Thank you! J.F.
