Your realization of the goal of high school graduation is significant. Your achievement is a direct result of your own accomplishments and of the efforts of others in your behalf. Parents, relatives and friends share with you a Just feeling of pride because of your success. B-R has provided you with the opportunity to develop a foundation from which your learning may continue to grow. The joy of new learning, the satisfaction of deeper insight, and the peace that comes from know- ledge that grows into wisdom may all be derived from the foundation we call education. It is often useful to reflect on what we are, how we became, and to project what we might become. Your formal educational experiences, from kindergarten on to their end, shape the course of your becoming. All of us owe a debt to others for our development as a person. Some men of learning, however, expound the concept of being a self- made man. Their unwillingness to give credit to others for assisting them to gain knowledge or the skills required to learn, reveals only their need to travel further along the road in pursuit of wisdom. Travel that road to its end. Remember us. We all wish you well. Sincerely, Edwin Denton, D.Ed. Superintendent ED:ra To the Class of 1981: The past twelve years have been a beginning in a lifetime of learning. Your graduation is a significant milestone in this process. I am proud of what you are and have confidence in what you will become. My best to you in all of your endeavors. George S. Capernaros Headmaster John B. Parker Assistant Headmaster Edward J. For his dedication to learning in general and to the Regional in particular, the class of 1981 acknowledges his thirty-four year career in education. During school years 1947-1948 he taught English and civics at Monsignor Coyle High School in Taunton, Massachusetts. From 1948-1953 he served as an instructor of English and Latin, as a department head, and as a baseball coach at Bolles Military Academy in Jacksonville, Florida. From 1953 to 1961 he was a member of both the English Department and the Foreign Language Department at Tauton High School. For the past twenty years he has faithfully taught English 12 and capably chaired the English Department at the Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School. Because he has been so instrumental in founding, staffing, and leading the English Department since 1961, the Unitas staff applauds his valuable contributions to our school and wishes him both health and happiness in his retirement. 38 C w 5 an v v atvu I.- y : 1 ': J D- - - T' =v.v';v: -V 'v ■:•'■ - - - - ■ % J • ' v r Mr. John Manning National Honor Society Advisor % 1iona( fionor Socim The National Honor Society is composed of students who have been selected by reason of their grade point average, leadership qualities, and character to serve the school in special ways, such as providing student tutoring. Members meet once a month to discuss ways in which they may use their special abilities to be of service to the school and to the other students. The induction ceremony held in the Spring of the year is a very special event which seeks to reward some of B-R's hardest working students. First row: C. Dion, C. Verhoorn, Mr. Manning, advisor; P. Members of the Council work unselfishly on projects which help both the school community and the larger outside community. This year the Council held a Bike-a-Thon where students brought in canned goods to needy families in local towns. The Council continued the traditional Blood Drive held at B-R each year in April and cheered the school on St. Valentine's Day with a sale of carnations which many students bought and sent to sweethearts. i Mr. Robert Brogna Student Council Advisor First row: A. Advised by Dr. William Coyle, its officers are Vera Hoffman (founder and president), Alex Gray (vice-president), Andy Francis (treasurer), and Kevin Daniels (secretary). The B-R Bikers have ridden to many places so far, including Plymouth, Edaville Railroad, and the Blue Hills (their polar bear ride). For the last part of the school year, they pedalled to Martha's Vineyard, a traditional ride the B-R Bikers plan on making every year. First row: C. Smalley, D. Mullins, K. Walsh, R. Garshick, J. The Weight Lifting Club at B-R is fortunate to have as its director a member of the U.S. Olympic Team, Mr. Boris Djerassi. The club meets three times a week in the school weight room where many B-R students eargerly workout with programs individually designed by Mr. Djerassi. The club's major event of the year is the sponsorship of the Massachusetts State Power Lifting Championship, held at B-R in the Spring. Ira (Mats The World Affairs Club under the new leadership of Mr. Reilly has been very active throughout the school year. In early December the club held an in-school model U.N. where each member of the club represented a country presently in the United Nations. In February two club members, Johnathan Rubin and Mike Meehan, attended the Presidential Classroom held in Washington D.C. Model UN members were: Sally Dooley, Cathy Dion, Lisa Giddings, Brenda Baker, Sue Forest, Katerina Rosengren, and Leroy Stafford. Along with their usual erudite discussions of such topics as Nuclear Energy, the club has visited many scientific sites in the area. This year, too, the club has been involved in humanitarian work with the elderly. Early in the year, members of the club brought puppies from Holiday Kennels in Brockton to a local nursing home. The students then introduced the puppies to the residents, and all three groups really enjoyed themselves! Everyone, the new staff and the new advisor, seemed to pull together to learn as much as possible about putting together a book for the 1981 class to be especially proud of. Many people were responsible for this effort. Mr. Phaneuf and Mrs. Parker came to the rescue of our art editors, Sharon Reis and Connie Parker, on more than one occasion. Mr. Pimental and Miss Gregoire helped us with instant photographs whenever we were faced with blank spaces on the day before a deadline, and Mr. Pat Connolly and Dodge-Murphy Studios worked with us on some pretty rushed and tricky assignments. In all, it was a great experience for everyone on the staff. We hope we succeeded in creating a book which tells and shows about life at B-R. . . . Heather Johnstone Editor-in-Chief First row. M. Cosmctolo W The Cosmetology Program at Bridgewater- Raynham offers the students who participate practical training in the beauty field. Students attend LaBaron Beauty Academy on Main Street in Brockton where they study such subjects as anatomy and physiology as well as hairdressing for three hours a day, five days a week. After 1,000 hours of classroom and lab time, graduating students receive a diploma which allows them to take the state examination for certification as a licensed cosmetologist. The cosmetology program at Bridgewater- Raynham has been popular at B-R for those students who have enough time in their programs to take it. Our students attend LaBaron with students from neighboring towns who seem equally enthusiastic about it. The students have learned an interesting avocation, and we wish them luck in the future. 63 ■ Jmorn Mcfertf fxwd The Bridgewater-Raynham Student Advisory Board supplies an opportunity for student voices to be heard. The team defeated such powerhouses as Boston Latin and Scituate. Domination on defense was supplied by standouts Neal Zonfrelli, Paul DeLeo, and Rick Turner. They allowed the offense, led by signal caller Matt Lombardi, ample time to exhibit its strength. Once again, the team has completed a successful winning season. Under Coach Pacheco and led by senior tri-captains Marty Mornssey, Kirk Hellmuth. and Rich Eklund, the B-R booters complied a well-earned, well-fought, 13-2-1 league record and walked off with the OCL crown for the second year- in-a- row. This qualified the team to participate in the State Tournament for the third consecutive season, but only to bow in the quarterfinals by a single goal. The skillful play of seniors Marty Morrissey and Roland Locke. Junior Shawn Schum. and Sophomore Fernando Ferreira was recognized by their selection to the First-Team All League All-Star team. Highlights included a first ever victory over Hingham and a last week run at qualifying for a state tourney berth. Perhaps the outstanding individual performance was turned by senior Mike (Scooter) Barrett, who is considered by most people to be the outstanding goalie in the area. Barrett was personally responsible for several victories and his untimely injury during Christmas vacation kept the team's record from being even better. The season saw the birth of B-R's highest scoring line in history with junior Mike (Mr. Excitement) Barnes, sophomore Dave Jamieson, and freshman Terry Chipman ranking among the top scorers in the O.C.L. Few who were there will ever forget the sight of human Christmas trees mingling with angels and elves on the dance floor or the chaos caused by togas dancing with little girls clutching teddy bears. Everyone will surely remember the sounds of Pace and the unusual prizes awarded to the best costumes. More than all the sights, however, everyone will remember the spirit which seemed to pervade. For a couple of hours everyone seemed united, everyone seemed to be part of the same family. For two hours in the school cafeteria on a cold day in December, the Christmas spirit transformed us all into United class of 1981. Maybe this feeling will return again, probably at graduation, and maybe at some re-union in the future. p- SZ 124 125 I 126 jYczhmq is pcrmancnT As ue we fi fyioyj u) must noio fcavez To find spcccc tc qrx uJ Tour years of cur lifer Sped yuict Ju ry , ; must 7n rv£ on A.ndlcu c S-J i J icmorfcs from ih st 1aJi(( afwauj re d : c (o tfie% 6rinq ns Can never c c. measured T: fill s: cs Saa ness fitts our :c.v t J:...
