The Future Homemakers of America is a nationwide organization. It's the largest vocational youth organization in the United States. Here at West our FHA chapter is a very active club both on a state and national level. At state level we are very proud to have both the state president, Nancy Pernini, and secretary, Sharon Oppelt, in our club. Nationally Bridgewater West FHA was represented at the National Convention when three of this yearis seniors went to Chicago, Illinois last July. We hold many activities during the year trying to improve ourselves, our school and our community. At Christmas time we held a party for the Senior Citizen Club in Raritan. We helped the State Treasury by contributing to the State bazaar, and we held a garage sale to clear up our debts. Other projects also include the Varsity dinner, cooking contest, FHA Week, State Convention, officer elections and we hope to start a new program called the Exchange Program. It will work just the same as the student council program only we will exchange FHA club members for a day. FHA is a vital organization with a lot to give, and is tremendous fun. Chess Club The Chess Club this year wasted no time in preparing West's team for its matches in the Central ,lcrsey Chess League. Coached by five advisors, tMr. Petrus, Mr. Motelusco, Mr. Routel, Mr. Sinko, and Mr. Cugliarij, the team had several losses but many wins, its record being incomplete at the time of this writing. Since its inception in 1972, the club has consisted primarily of members of the class of 75. Thus, as this class takes its leave, the chess club goes with it in a final blaze of glory, marking the end of an era. However, there is still hope, for the president has left it in the competent hands of Mark Wiegand tclass of 3771, and wishes him luck in digging up a team, so that the state-wide image of West will not die. The chess team this year consisted of Arthur Saylor fpresident and Team captain for th ree yearsl, .lim Schwanda, Dayna Delgiudice, Sam McKinney, Steve Overberg, Mike Underhill, and Mark Wicgand. Non-team club members included John Winans, Sue Ann Dess, Joe Oppelt, and Ken Flynn.
