HST Basketball The 1971-72 East varsity basketbll team did not have a very successful year. With only two victories, they were a far cry from last year's team. However, we must not forget that this was a rebuilding year and many of the boys hadn't played much varsity ball. Lack of experience hurt the team tremendously, as did the loss of center Don Ienkins, the team's top scorer early in the year. However, many of the players showed great improvement as the year went on. Mike Kovo- nuk, who replaced the injured Jenkins, and Mark Debes became the team's two top scorers. Senior guards Dave Gibbs, Tom Richards, Dave Wessel, Gene Buchma, and Steve Crites proved the team with outside scoring. Iunior forward jeff Kurtzman gained much varsity experience and sophomore guard Bob Havran showed flashes of brilliance near the season's end. With plenty of varsity experience this season, the team should be a winning one next year. Freshman Team ROW ONE: Randy Konsko, Ed Sandora, Bill Wolfe, Dan Wilbur, Ron Colangelo, Sean McAvoy, Gary Bernard, Mike Mazzella. ROW TWO: Coach Panzarella, Mike Brophy, Rich Shoolbraid, Mike Ells, Brian Elechter, Paul Braun, Ken Siegrist, Bob Shedlosky, jeff Vanderbeek, Chris Raffo, Martin Figel.
